Revisit Willie Williams and meet a new phony soldier
I’m sure many of you remember “Willie” Williams from a post I did more than a month ago.
Well, it took a month, but we’ve finally got Willie’s records and actually, he had quite an impressive career in the Army. He had several tours in combat as an infantryman in the Dominican Republic and 2 tours in Vietnam. He earned four Bronze Star Medals – all for merit and none for valor even though he’s wearing the “V” on his bronze star – and a Purple Heart in 1968. His tours in Vietnam were with the 101st and the 173rd in ’68 and ’70 respectively – both were airborne units. Here’s his records;
Willie stayed Airborne the whole 25 years, except when he was in Korea where he was in a Quartermaster laundry unit, the 101st and the 173rd in Vietnam and most of his time stateside was with the 101st and 82d – he even PCS’d to Germany for 13 months in 1958-59 with 1/504th to Germany when the unit PCS’d en masse . He went to Escape and Evasion School (the predecessor of SERE School) and the 82nd Division Raider Course (predecessor of Recondo School) – so it’s beyond me why he decided he needed all of the other stuff to pump himself up. And he was only 5’5″ and 123 pounds – he was the original Little Billie Badass.
As far as all that goes, I commend him. And, in fact if you go back to the first post, I didn’t question SFC Williams’ awards for combat service – it was all the ancillary BS crap he wore that I questioned – like the glider badge (the school for which closed the year before he enlisted) and medals that didn’t come into existence until nearly two decades after he left the service.
Is this an apology? Nope. I was criticized once recently for not unloading both barrels on him, but I kept my critique in the realm of what I knew from the picture. Willie was wrong for wearing all of that silly shit. Period. And so is anyone else who claims things they didn’t earn – civilians do that and we’re better than civilians.
Here’s another phony soldier claiming stuff he didn’t do (on a tip from 1CavRVN11B);
William Devereaux, the department’s director of veterans programs, was arrested Monday, issued a summons and released. A court hearing has not yet been scheduled.
In announcing the arrest on Wednesday, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said the 63-year-old Laurel Springs resident invented a false history of combat heroism in the Vietnam War. The prosecutor’s office said its investigation was prompted by information provided by the county Office of Veterans Affairs.
Prosecutors said Devereaux falsely claimed on military benefits forms for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that he served as a paratrooper and artilleryman during the war and was injured multiple times. He also claimed to have received medals including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with “V” device.
See? They always claim they’re paratroopers, I dare you to determine which political party Devereaux belongs to from the AP story. He was appointed by McGreevey, so that’s the only hint.
That’s Deveroux on your left in this picture;
I’ve been unable to find anything on his party affiliation, but I found an example of his deception;

Good job on the follow-up Jonn. Like you, I still standby by my original comment. What really irked me at the time is the use of Willie by the MSM and veterans that pad their resume even if already pretty honorable. Happy Thanksgiving.
And remember that Dem Gov McGreevey, yeah the same one who resigned in shame, replaced the VETERAN Leadership of his Veterans Department with hoaxes like this. UNREAL
I think this guy qualifies for a years free membership in Iraq Veterans Against the War AND Veterans For Peace!
And a LIFE membership in Vietnam Veterans Against the War.
Sort of like Mr Hector Mesas showing up at a Hillary show in Lorain, OH, huh?
I think he was auditioning for his life membership in the VVAW, with his comment about his “deep feelings” about our involvement. What a POS.. But, maybe he got his job because he was a “special” friend of McGreevey.
re paratrooper
Maybe he would enjoy getting pushed out of an airplane.
Kudo’s to Charlie Williams for being the real-deal, but as you said, he was wrong for wearing crap he didn’t earn. He had plenty of honorable and worthy awards/decs, he didn’t need to wear the rest of that stuff.
[…] This ain’t Hell, but you can see it from here » Blog Archive …… the 63-year-old Laurel Springs resident invented a false history of combat heroism in the Vietnam War. Jonn I would have to check to be sure but I think that some of those that were in the Ranger Infantry Companies during the Korean war earned glider wings. I think I recall a blurb about a group from 8th Ranger Company that was killed in a glider accident.
He is not on the roster for the all black 2nd Ranger Company so you are certainly correct he doubtfully earned glider wings.
In the 60’s & early 70’s the airborne battalions in Germany were the 1/509th and the 2/509th. They were in Mainz accross the river from Wiesbaden, at Robt.E.Lee Barracks. Willie has obviously gone overboard on the awards. I note he has a “V” device on his silver star, and he is wearing a USMC markmanship badge. If Willie was in the 509th in Germany in 1969 he may have been in my battalion.
your “willie” post is how I first found the this ain’t hell site and I’ve been stopping by two or three time a week ever since.
Thanks for the great follow up post and keep up the fire.
Thanks for the follow up. The truth never hurts, and as the old saying goes, “They also serve, who stand and wait”. No need to pad the record, the fact he served and served honourably is enough for me.
Respects,
Jonn,
I agree 100% There’s absolutely no need for Willie to pad his honorable record with decorations and awards he never earned. IMO, that diminishes his integrity by claiming false achievments. Hopefully, someone will pull Willie aside and tell him to compare his 2-1 and other enlisted records with what he’s wearing on his chest.
EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THERE OWN OPINION BUT MY STEP FATHER(HECTOR MESAS)WAS A GOOD MAN. HE WAS IN THE MILITARY HE WAS APART OF THE DAV. ITS SAD TO SEE YOU GUYS WRITTING THESE THINGS BUT IT IS AMERICA. DONT KNOW IF YOU KNOW BUT HE HAS PASSED.
I’m sorry for your loss Ms. Ortiz. I don’t think we said anything about him except Streetsweeper’s comment did we? Either way, I salute him for his service and hope your family is okay.
Jonn wrote: Ditto. RIP Hector Mesas.
Hector Mesas, of Lorain, died in a Cleveland hospital from injuries sustained in a fight with the man at George Daniel Field.
A picture I found of him after he talked to Hillary Clinton in Lorain, OH a few months ago.
maybe i didnt read it right but there is a website that just wants to bring him down. its hard for us right now I just dont want my brothers and sisters to read bad things about him. (im sorry)
I know this is Thread Necromancy, I apologize,
Also like the rest of you I don’t cut any slack to posers,
How ever, The guy was in fact a real stud in his career.
All the High protein /Lo Fat awards are legit. BSMs, PH, CIB, Mastr Parachutist Badge and many of the campaign/Theater awards.
I’m going to posit a slight benefit of the doubt here. My Ex-father in law, my childrens Grandpa was a Korean war vet. He just recently died. Of Parkinsons/Dementia and other complications. Old people are suceptible to many mental infirmites.
All of this guys BIG awards were legit. I’m willing to write all of the goffy stuff off to old age type stuff. I mean look at it. Even many of his legit awards aren’t racked correctly.
I’m willing to go with, Wrong but mentally deficient.
My Ex’s dad used to leave the house in a shirt and tie and a bathrobe. ( What a nightmare) He was also convinced that Me, My Ex, and our kids were plotting to kill him. He also beleived that the local baker was trying to kill him so that the Baker could sleep with my ex’s wife.
Old age is a bitch.
I meant Ex’s Dad’s wife
