Nicholas Teausant; arrested at the border
CB sends us a link from the Seattle Times which reports the arrest of Nicholas Teausant who was attempting to cross the US/Canada border in order join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, a band of al Qaeda folks fighting against the governments of Syria and Iraq.
According to the complaint, Teausant is a student at San Joaquin Delta Community College in Stockton, Calif. He is also a reservist with the Army National Guard, the complaint states.
The complaint alleges that since October Teausant has “explored ways of supporting violent extremist activities and providing material support to various terrorist organizations.” It also alleges he posted information online indicating a desire to join al-Qaida.
The complaint also says Teausant made his intentions known to an undercover informant working for the FBI during a series of meetings. The informant told the FBI of Teausant’s plans to travel by train and bus from California to Canada, the complaint states.
My sources tell me that he is indeed a PV1 in the California National Guard, his Facebook page says that he’s in the 118th Maint, CO in Stockton, California, but AKO lists his unit as “RSP Fresno” which looks like a recruiting station of sorts, so I’m guessing that his military career ended ignobly a short time ago.
NBC Los Angeles also reports that he planned a terrorist attack in LA;
He allegedly said in a phone call that while on a post-Thanksgiving camping trip, his group discussed “hitting” Los Angeles subways with a targeted attack on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, according to the complaint.
Teausant made inquiries about buying fireworks “with the biggest boom” and subsequently texted a friend advising, “Don’t go to LA Anytime soo Akhi Please trust me on this… and if you do don’t use the subway.”
A 5-month investigation revealed he “has explored ways of supporting violent extremist activities and providing material support to various terrorist organizations, culminating in his attempt to join” Al Qaeda, the complaint stated.
I’m thinking he wouldn’t be that successful.
But, I guess I should point out to the media that a private in a maintenance company hasn’t been trained by the military to perpetrate anything resembling an attack on a large number of people. It looks to me like he didn’t even attend basic training, or at least he didn’t finish it. Unless ISIS need someone to teach them the “Law of Land Warfare”, Drill & Ceremony or how to make “hospital corners”, Nick here, wouldn’t have been much of an asset to them from any military training he might have had.
The most cost-effective thing that the government could do for him is to let him go to Syria and get himself killed in that morass.

So here is the thing as I understand from talking with friends that work for CBP over in Port Angels, WA (that was the entry point for the dude looking to blow up LAX terminal in 2000, but was stopped by a CBP officer because the bomber was acting hinky); is that Canada shares an open travel policy with the rest of the commonwealth of British territories. Also, not talked about much down in the US, but in a number of areas such as Vancouver, Victoria, Ottawa and a few other big cities in Canada have become hot beds of radicalism with respect towards Islam. So the idea has been that the railroad towards the overseas combat zones are up through Canada and out from there since their borders are porous into other commonwealth nations where it is easy to be smuggled into other locations in the world. Such as over to the UK and then disappear into the EU since the EU has no borders anymore (at least when it comes to doing travel and passports. So it is easy to make it into a place like the former Yugoslavian states where one can disappear and reappear into those combat zones such as Mali, Nigeria, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Malaysia, and other places where there is an Islamic insurgency.
It’s a shame he didn’t resist and get shot trying to escape.
On his Facebook page he posted a drawing of someone being shot in the head along with the comment, “Hey kaffir…lets make some art.. Lol #jews.”
Clearly a mentally stable winner.

Well, the Seattle Times article says that Teausant enlisted in the National Guard in April 2012 but never underwent basic training because he didn’t meet academic requirements. DUH. So the lost “blood,sweat and tears” he quoted must have occurred when he video conferenced basic at the Fresno RSP Armory.
I bet the “blood, sweat and tears” came in when he underwent the medical portion of MEPs-probably the closest thing to “getting laid” he ever experienced

That’s too weird. Not academically qualified to attend basic? What the hell kind of academic record does it take to attend JC in California. Perhaps it’s merely attaining eighteen years of age. Too dumb for boot camp but California college material. No wonder California is approaching Detroit territory. Perhaps the California college system needs to send more AQ volunteers to Syria and raise the schools average IQ by a few points. This guy was just taking a seat that somebody else might have used better.
For admission, the junior/community colleges in California will pretty much take anybody who pays the cheap tuition. Once in, it is possible to be kicked out, but they generally won’t bother unless there’s a disciplinary problem. Otherwise, if you’re paying and not showing up, that’s free money for them at the expense of somebody else’s voluntary stupidity. You won’t pass, but you’re welcome to keep paying for nothing.
The CC that I got My AA from is actually pretty good academically, apart from a math teacher who didn’t speak English (which would be less of a problem if I spoke any Chinese) and a PoliSci teacher who was not only a communist but also a heinous bitch. Some of the JCs/CCs are pretty good schools, some are crappy, some in between. YMMV.
He is still listed in AKO as a PV1 assigned to RSP Fresno. The RSP is kind of a holding program for people who have enlisted into the Guard but haven’t been to basic. It is entirely possible that AKO hasn’t updated since he got the boot given the disconnects between the ARNG processes and things like AKO.

In Internet postings quoted in the complaint, as well as conversations Teausant had with a confidential FBI source, he indicated that he “wanted to go to Syria to fight, but did not know how to get there.”
He told the FBI source initially that he could not find his passport, and he expressed concerns that people he had met on Facebook while discussing an attack on the Los Angeles rail system might be informants.
He also had difficulty remembering the name of the Syrian group he hoped to join, according to the confidential FBI source quoted in the criminal complaint.
“I like ISIS,” Teausant was quoted as saying, “Islamic State of, um, crap…I forget. Islamic State of Al Sham.”
