Charles Cox; another Atlanta phony soldier

| May 3, 2013

Randy Travis at Fox 5 Atlanta sends us a link to his latest story of Charles Cox, another phony with a tale which got him a free deer hunt with “Hunt for Heroes”. Apparently, Cox was injured training at Fort Irwin in preparation for a deployment to Desert Storm, but he told everyone that he was actually injured during the war;

Atlanta News, Weather, Traffic, and Sports | FOX 5

Randy says that Cox influenced Shane Ladner to take advantage of the Hunt for Heroes program.

When will it all end??? Our government needs to take action on this, especially now that they see these posers are taking monies from the system….

Combat Historian

The guy was preparing to go overseas to serve in combat, and got badly hurt training up for it; there is nothing shameful about that. Personnel get injured and die in training accidents while prepping for deployments sadly all too frequently. But this numbskull then has to besmirch his own integrity and honor by lying about it and making up a BS story about how he got wounded in combat in the AOR, and now his name and reputation is dirt among fellow vets and others. Just another lying poser…

Ex-PH2

Broke his back in three places and was only paralyzed for — what?!!

Oh, I get it! He had the spinal paralysis that miraculously and spontaneously disappears after a few months of drinking and lying about it.

Beretverde

Damn…back in the day it was lies to score free drinks or get chicks. Now free trips to go hunting and license plates? When will it ever end? 214s now can be forged to look more pristine than real ones. The heat on these clowns needs to be applied on ALL levels!

“Hardly worth going to war anymore.”

Hondo

What I don’t get is the fact that “Hunt for Heroes” doesn’t seem to care that they’ve been lied to and “had”. If I were running that organization, I’d be sending copies of everything I had on both of these guys to the local authorities and filing criminal complaints regarding possible fraud.

OWB

That is what I was wondering, Hondo. Seems like a slam dunk conviction for the authorities in Midland for some sort of fraud. Or something.

EdUSMCleg

Anyone surprised he also had a Wounded Warrior Project sticker on his truck??? This MF’er better remove that PH tag, and with a quickness.

Green Thumb

@5. What I don’t get is the fact that “Hunt for Heroes” doesn’t seem to care that they’ve been lied to and “had”.

Par for the course, unfortunately. Cheaper and easier to maintain your reputation that way (by not admitting you were duped)

@7. Anyone surprised he also had a Wounded Warrior Project sticker on his truck???

I would have been surprised if he did not have one. That is typical WWP for you. See comment above.

EdUSMCleg

Oh I know all about the WWP. When I first got out in 2010, I took part in one of their meet ups. Out of the 50-60 people who were in attendance, maybe 5 of us were actually wounded in combat and only 2 of us in Iraq or Afghanistan. They will take ANYONE to make it appear they are bigger than they actually should be in order to solicit more money. It’s all a sham

Green Thumb

@9. right on.

Same experience.

I have nothing to do with them anymore.

And I actually know a few folks up in senior admin.

They have all left. I see them at certain times, certain functions, etc.

They say the same thing.

Want a laugh? Check out their Form 990.

EdUSMCleg

Lol Yeah, I’ve seen it. It’s ridiculous. The upper echelon makes so much money off the generosity of others. Makes me sick.

Green Thumb

My favorite are their “adopt-a-wounded-vet commercials”

For the price of a cup of coffee, you can support a vet…etc.

Like the old UNICEF commercials you would see when watching the Mutual of Omaha movies in the 80’s.

Fucking unethical leeches.

And I have actually pointed out posers to them (AT FUNCTIONS)and they do nothing. And I quote “Well, we just don’t know. Why cause a scene”.

WWP = We were privates.

Repugnant.

Nicki

Seriously! Why the fuck are we having an asshole eruption recently????????

Robot Wrangler

Because turds dont like to be contained Nicki….

Green Thumb

Loose stool they are.

Of the runniest, greasiest sort.

Pete

i got hurt in a training accident, and my command was awesome enough to detail as an instrument of war (parachute jump) so my med sep pay was tax free.. i could have gotten a purple heart but integrity is something you either have or dont (i had deployed 2x before)

OWB

Hmmm. Not only fraud, but this is sounding like conspiracy to commit fraud. It just keeps getting better.

Hunt for heroes SSG Charles T Cox US ARMY ret.- http://www.gosanangelo.com/news/2010/nov/17/staff-sgt-charles-t-cox-army-ret/?print=1 SAN ANGELO, Texas — I have been married to my wife, Bette, for 30 years and we have two sons. Jacob, the oldest, lives in Atlanta and is the manager of a restaurant. He graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2007. Joseph, our youngest, is a sergeant in the Army and is serving his second tour in Iraq. He is a military policeman and is in the same unit that I served in for many years. I served in the National Guard, Army Reserve and regular Army for more that 26 years. I have many Military Occupational Specialties but am very proud of having been a Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol specialist, a member of the Airborne, of the Military Police and of The Army Marksmanship Unit, where I participated in the 2000 World championship in Bisley, England. I was awarded six gold, six silver and two bronze medals. I was deployed for Operation Desert Storm, Just Cause, Noble Eagle and Iraqi Freedom. After retiring from the Army in Georgia, my wife and I moved to Colorado and now live in Westcliffe. Operation Desert Storm: January 14, 1991 — I, along with my Long Range Surveillance Unit team, were being moved to our forward operating base in a 2½-ton truck when we ran into a tank trap. My back was broken in three places and I was paralyzed from the waist down for many months. My rehab included learning to walk again. The encouragement that I received from my doctors and family not only helped me to return to active duty but I was able to return to full jump status a year later. Operation Iraq Freedom: My left leg was injured so badly that amputation was considered. It took more than seven operations to give me partial use of my leg. This, along with another injury to my spine, put me in the wounded warrior program for more than a year. Doctors ordered my retirement in February 2006. I take great pride knowing that I was able to serve… Read more »

@5–What I don’t get is the fact that “Hunt for Heroes” doesn’t seem to care that they’ve been lied to and “had”.

Hondo–isn’t this the same group that gave our convicted felon/neck tat “SEAL” a free rifle and hunting trip too? If not, apologies in advance.

Hondo

NHSparky: dunno. Went back to the Truitt story and it doesn’t say. Original story Jonn linked appears to have aged off the newspaper’s web site.

I have the impression that the Truitt caper defrauded a CA charity vice one in TX, but that could be bad memory on my part.

Hack Stone

Ex-PH2@3, it is totally possible that he broke his back in three places and that it healed. You just need an industrial sized tube of Tiger Balm and some chicken noodle soup.

OWB

Hondo, am remembering the same as you, but would not want to be quoted widely on it! CA was involved, with the hunt either there or WY or MT maybe? Seems like there was some crossing of state lines??

Irish

Of course this is a friend of Shane Ladner’s. They should run all of his so called retired military friends’ resumes through this site. Bet there are more than just Charles Cox who are posers. I was at one of the many fund raisers and saw many uniforms walking around. What a shame. Heard there was never any accounting of the money from the fund raisers. I hope his wife benefits from them but now I’m beginning to wonder with all of the illegal activity around them – will she get any?

Who are you with, lance6g5z?

Military Supporter

Did anyone serve with Charles cox who can tell us more. Or is this another who saved the world all by himself?

DDBB

This moron Charles Cox lives here in Westcliffe CO he has the sheriffs dept fooled he said he was a snipper, and he is training them, everything he touches turns to shit we have a buch of retired generals living here along with some Cols and they say it just can’t be noone will stand up to him but after I found out about this and I am getting the run around on VA benifits and this turd is getting a free ride we are working on getting this out but he has entrenched himself into the sheriffs dept and the church they all go to and they protect him.

ReaperMedic

I’ve stood up to him and he’s a total coward. Let’s talk.

Power Ranger

Yea you would like to talk – Lets talk about how many years you spent in prison and how you are taking money from our goverment because of PTSD! what a douche! I know for a fact he showed you his DD214 and you refused to see it. Believe what you want, the truth is what it is!

Power Ranger

If you are a REAL vet ask for his DD214 if you know what that is.

Cowardly Troll

Randy, You can’t even get Mr. Cox rank right. I personally feel you would dig up a dead relative just to further your career. With that being said. I have 27 years of service to this nation in DOD. I am currently serving on Active duty. To this day i am still trying to get my records updated to reflect what is real and cover the full story of my career. I entered service in 1986, everything was done paper. Just like the other Soldiers you target randy to try and make yourself a hero. Back on topic, going from active duty to the reserve, guard poses some serious challenges. First off it is considered a change in branches. Yes, you will say its still the army but randy you could not figure out how to get into your call if you did not have a key fob. When you change branches your paper work is done by a person that A. knows you are leaving, and you can not come back to them and get stuff fixed, B, you will not see your paperwork for long time. I will say even thou our administrative staff are great people they are still human, processing over 1500 soldier in a short period of time , yes some corners will be cut. Example, my unit is required 56 soldiers yet i am now the only one full time doing work. My BDE has been cut to 40 % staff. Randy you are a human garbage and fox should flush you away. The only reason your targeting Charles Cox not is your heading for a Law suit. I should give you my name so you can add me to your trophy wall of vets. Yes Randy my records are not correct and the army will say they don’t have document or two or four. SO I AM VET STEALING FROM HEROS. I notices your sorry butt did not volunteer to serve the greatest nation on earth. I bet you chest on your taxes… Yes randy you stole from fox…. l will say it.… Read more »

Cowardly troll's sock puppet

I served with Charles Cox. Worked with Charles Cox. I would serve with Charles Cox again. I am noticing a trend on this forum. Either you have not served this country or you have been a Guardsman all your career. I have more respect for the Guardsman, they raised their hand and knew what price could be asked of them. I agree with the last poster on this forum. DOD is horrible at documentation. I to have served on active duty and I will tell you that record keeping is not the Army’s strong suit. Their systems do not talk to each other. Example: Georgia Army National Guard admininistrative systems does not talk to Active Army administrative systems. It is true now. So what makes you think back in 1980 when the internet was a dream, that the paper copy was sent to the right place. That is just the Administrative, you have to look deeper: and i don’t feel anyone on this forum is willing to put in the time to understand how the DOD administrative process truly works. Not how it was designed to work, but how it is working today. I could go into all kinds of examples about what the Army could not have in the Soldiers file and what truly took place. Just look at Abu Ghraib prison. How many officers went to jail.. come on think… NONE. Now think to yourself if we kept perfect records how many officers would be in jail now. NCO”s don’t just go out and do stuff, Officers tell them what they are to do and whats the mission. So ask yourself why are only NCO’s on this forum on the cross hairs. Heck i just pulled awards off the printer for an Africa mission. Yes thats right Africa, we have not finished a single tour there. Was the name on it an officer or NCO. …. i will give you a minute to think… Wrong it was an officer. Trust me if Charles Cox did 1/10th of what he is being accused of his fellow Soldiers will handle… Read more »

http://www.benning.army.mil/armor/ocoa/content/PDF/FY14%20MSG%20Board%20Analysis.pdf

19 Dec 2013 Go to page 14 Under section Board Issues and Observations.

If you look at the after action review you will see that even in this day of electronic records that a Soldier going for promotion has its challenges. NCOER not reflecting duty performed, missing documents etc. Please take the time to get a better understanding of how records are missing. This AAR is proof that the Army knows full well that records are missing. This is a Soldier that is currently serving and they to have missing records. So if you ask the Army did “X” Soldier do “X” mission they will go to the same records that this board looks at to promote Soldiers and say “No we have no record of this”. I am not surprised that Charles Cox is having this issue. I ask for each of you to not take my word on the fact that records are missing look for yourself. Google is your friend search AAR for promotions and you will see years of boards saying the same thing. Here is the kicker. The board states that its the Soldier that has to maintain their record. There is a flaw on this logic. The Soldier can only VIEW their record. They can not change the record. They must submit a packet that can take years for HRC to update. The person that actions this packet is under no performance measure to actually do the inputing, because if its not updated the Soldier gets blamed for not having records updated not HRC. So the cycle keeps going until the Soldier gets out, retires, or dies.

Cowardly troll's sockpuppet

I noticed that this is a senior enlisted promotion. If they will do this to the senior folks just think what they do the juniors.

Cowardly troll's sockpuppet

*YAWN*. take some English and grammar lessons, little amateur! You also resurrected a dormant thread about your butt-pal, tell him to ENJOY the goooogle fame, DIPSHIT!!

2/17 Air Cav

Yeah, I didn’t see this the first time around but I thank the cowardlytroll for pulling the Lazarus here and resurrecting the thread. I only scanned his comments, the length of which rival War and Peace, but I closely read the intro to this thread. It’s quite a read. So, thanks again troll. Without you, I would have missed this thread altogether.

A Proud Infidel®™

I also noticed that the link posted as well as the grammar is identical to that of a couple of farce book posts at the top. Coincidence? Definitely maybe!!

Cowardly troll’s sockpuppet…Wow, way to help out your pal, Charlie Cox! This thread was dead and I’m sure he was laying low and thanking the Almighty for that. Yet YOU have given him another leg up in the Poser/Fraud Hall of Shame. By the way, did you bother to ask good ole Charlie if it was okay with him for you to bring this thread back to life and once again, boost his Google ratings. He was way down on the Google hit parade but now this traffic will help push him up more…again. But hey, thanks anyway for reminding me of a loser I had forgotten about ALL TOGETHER until YOUR posts today.

Sparks

Cowardly troll’s sockpuppet…Also, Spell and Grammar check can be your friends. Yea, no shit. If you have a hard time with English…hey what am I saying here with “if you have”, then write your crap in Word and use Spell and Grammar check. An hour or more later, after you fix all the fuck ups it shows you made, then copy it and paste it into your comment here. It’s pretty easy! Really it is, that’s no shit.

ByrdMan

“I am noticing a trend on this forum. Either you have not served this country or you have been a Guardsman all your career”

I to0 have noticed a trend. The trend I’ve noticed is that people who resurrect dead threads to defend their lying friends are knobs.

2/17 Air Cav

WTF? Does the self-proclaimed coward have any clue at all how many NG units served in the ME and how many of their members are among the Fallen? I accept that the only defender of Charles Cox is a coward and now we all have confirmation that he is a moron, too.

wow

Wow,
Cowardly troll’s sock puppet. I will not lower myself and say bad things about you, because I don’t know you. I don’t know either of the topic Soldiers in this thread. I will say this I am a vet and was hurt real bad and most of my records are not in the VA system or in IPerms. its easy to hide behind a computer, and I can not tell if your a wonded veteran. You might be, as for your comment on NG Soldiers I am assuming your talking about the automation systems not their service. I looked up the AAR he was talking about and it is real.

You got to love how everything on the internet is true, I’m not big into church but there’s a testament about throwing a rock or casting a rock if you have never sinned. I was in the US Navy for almost 6 years, why almost 6 because I signed up for four then did an 18 month extension so I could buy a truck. So I have seen some military paper work (I know big deal). I see a lot of bashing on Charles Cox from people that don’t know him and a few haters from people that do know him and are threatened by him. I know Charles Cox and I have reason to believe he is lying about his service, we talk about places we were both stationed (not at the same time I never served with him) so when he describes a place that you would have to be in to know what you’re talking about I tend to believe what he has to say because I was there. I have been to his home in Westcliffe and have seen his medals in his man cave on his glory wall, I have seen the photos of him getting said awards, I have seen his DD 214 and the certified copy of his DD 214 so I have no reason to not believe anything he says. Charles Cox is a Posse member with the Sheriff’s Office in Westcliffe and on October 23, 2012 the wind started to blow real hard and we started to talk about how strong the wind blew in November 0f 2011 and how we hoped we didn’t loss thousands of trees again. Around 1:00 a tone went out to the fire department about a fire in Wetmore which is about 26 miles east of Westcliffe. The wind had blown hard enough that it snapped a pine in half and the tree landed on a power line pulling the line down and when the tree fell of the power line snapped back up which caused the power pole to bounce and the transformer arced shooting… Read more »

Wait… Cox…ass….is there a connection?

A Colorado Friend

I am writing this post today to express my support for Charles Cox. I am a United States Army combat veteran who holds the rank of Sergeant First Class. I have been awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge , the Air Assault Badge, the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge, the Excellence in Competiton Rifle Badge and numerous achievement and service awards for my military service. I list these awards and decorations only to attempt to make myself a credible source with no intention to seek credit for these accomplishments. For nearly 3 years I have had the pleasure of getting to know Charles and become close friends with his entire family. Charles has been one of the nicest and most generous individuals I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in my life. I have been a guest in the Cox house numerous times and have seen many impressive military photographs, awards, medals, plaques, and credentials. These awards are a testament to Charles’s impressive and credible service to our country. In addition to his many years of military service there are also numerous awards and certifications showing his accomplishments and dedication to his community in the civilian world. These accomplishments include, but are not limited to, a medal of valor “for extraordinary heroism and imminent risk of serious bodily injury” during the Wetmore forest fire of 2012, sheriff posse Sergeant of the year, deputy sheriff, special response team designated marksman/sniper, search and rescue (mountain and scuba teams), EMT, ambulance driver, Sunday school teacher, and a deacon at his church. Additionally, Charles is an active supporter and generously donates time and money to Show of Support and other organizations that aim to provide services to members of the military and veterans. The slander and wrongdoing surrounding Charles in the news article above and this forum are inaccurate and completely unjust. It is preposterous that civilians who are uneducated on this matter or anyone who does not know Charles would have the nerve to say some of these inexcusable things. Calling Charles a phony is deplorable and strikes me to… Read more »
