Need an ID
Concrete Bob sends us this picture of a guy known as Robert Vaughn, but apparently we need an address or at least a middle name to roll this guy up;
The caption of the photo reads;
Veteran Robert Vaughn, in front wearing a hat, waits for the Ride of Pride journey to Washington, DC. The group gathered at the Cleveland Freightliner Plant for the send off ceremony centered around the patriotic custom designed Freightliner Cascadia truck. Vaughn is a VietNam vet with 72 decorations during the 5 years he was in VietNam in the 101 Airborn.
72 decorations is probably pushing it. And five years in Vietnam was probably more rare than journalists might think. The picture was taken at the freightline plant in Cleveland, NC

I don’t know of anyone who did five years in Viet Nam. A friend of mine did 44 months. But it was in two tours. When I was there you could extend for another 6 to 12 months with 30 days leave giving you 19 months or 25 months credit for being in country. I knew people who did 3 to 4 years total with more than one tour. I was there for 15 months. This Vaughn guy is a phony. 72 decorations is bullshit.
I knew one guy who did six tours of Vietnam. I asked why he went back so many times and he told me that he was looking for the guy who shot him the first time. I asked him if he ever found him. He said “I don’t know, but I shot a lot who looked like him”.

Get to the 1:13 mark. Same dude. Chest full of medals, only claims 40 in this one.
Looks like Dr. Teeth from the Muppets.
There are a number of Vietnam-era pilots who racked up 70+ air medals, so it’s not impossible. But it would almost certainly be rare. And somehow I just don’t see Vaughn here as an aviator.
John: you mean this guy?

We may have a triple sighting!
In the video it shows to him be Infantry. SSG type, Ranger and Airborne (of course) with 101. Enough medals and ribbons that he looks like a Russian General. I’m also finding a Robert Vaughn with 327 in VN, http://www.327infantry.org/second/c_co
Hondo, that’s the guy.
@5 – Looks like a match from the distance of the photos.
@#6, John – that Robert Vaughn is an officer, it looks like this one was pretending to be an NCO.
@2 Ref. 40 medals – “and I got paper work for them all” I swear that does look like a female dress green top he is wearing.
I knew and worked with one man who did 5 tours in SVN. He was my Ops Sgt, and was the only Soldier I personally knew back in the 80s with 10 bars on his right Class A sleeve.
He was an MP…did it for the adrenalin, avoidance of CONUS duty BS, the Brotherhood, and he really liked the women.
wow. Dumbledore gets around doesn’t he.
though I wonder where his cane went?
@11 it may be his stomach stretching it out that makes it look that way or all that metal dragging down the let side.
Stop th video at 1:05. 7 (count ’em) 7 BSMs, with one of the 7 having what looks like 3 OLC for a grand total of 10 BSMs! (One of them may be a phony “V” device, hard to see)
Also, star on his jump wings? At least the douchbag was consistent because the star seems to be on both sets of his jump wings, but on 22 February 1967, the 173rd Airborne Brigade conducted Operation Junction City. As far as I know, this was the only combat parachute jump of the Vietnam War.
Where’s the Abominable Snowman’s 173rd combat patch?
One very common trait among the Stolen Valor crowd is fluctuating numbers on their decorations. The funny thing is this guy went down in his claims: 72 in 2007 and now 40 in 2012. And seriously? Did he paste his stripes on with Elmer’s Glue?
I love how he goes on the offensive and says he has “paperwork” for all his medals. Because no Stolen Valor clown has ever thought to produce fraudulent paperwork to back up their B.S. Keep your paperwork, and just give us your middle initial and DOB. There are plenty of folks happy to fill out the forms to get the real paperwork on you.
Her is a Robert Lester Vaughn who was a Marine and KIA. 2nd person down.

*Here
Sorry, his last name was Vaughan.
I guess there are a lot of factors, but I know quite a few 4 Iraq/Afghanistan tour guys out there. 70 awards is crazy…unless you are a SMG or higher. 🙂 They give out cherry flavored BSMs to those guys.
Was sure this guy was my father when I first saw the name. He suffers from paranoid delusions about the NWO and black helicopters and tends to embellish his service record. Thankfully that’s not him in the pic. Unless he gained 100lbs and grew a beard.
Only 72 decorations? WTF is up with this guy? I would assume that he should have been able to average close to 20 medals each year with the amount of herosim displayed by him, so he should be much closer to 100 decorations.
As far as his time in Vietnam, I have only met/talked to one guy with extensive time in the area. He was at 55 months I beleive, became an SF type and got a commission in the field. 3 Purple hearts was his claim to fame, and he said he wished he hadn’t earned any of them.
He has to be real, he’s not wearing a 1st Cav patch with SEAL Trident.
@22 DaveO, I concur, he doesn’t have the Eagle, Globe and Anchor or Naval Parachutist Wings!? He’s gotta be legit!
Just glad to see it’s the Army this week.
I was in Charlotte for this event as part of The Patriot Guard Riders and was privileged to be allowed to stand Honor Guard at The Wall for a few hours. I saw this guy walking around. My girlfriend and I both looked at him and decided that he was wearing all of the medals as a way to honor the men and women that served in Vietnam by showing what they went through and earned. We had no idea he was a seriously deranged poser.
There is a chopper pilot with two tours in VN known to me that has 99 Air Medals, among numerous others. He once picked me and a few others up in a LOH. Later lost a leg to AAA and was medically retired as a Captain. He would never ever wear such as this guy. In fact, only learned of his AM’s from others who served with him.
Folks, we all blew it here. That’s obviously Dusty Hill from ZZ Top! (smile)

Another sighting of the unfortunately now common “Theftus Medalious Ridiculous”. As far as 5 years in Nam the closest I ever heard of was 4 years in Theater by an old First Sgt of mine. He did 2 separate tours on ground then another 2 years of sea duty on carriers operating there. I never did buy into the guys wearing uniforms and medals to honor Veterans. Perhaps they are trying to use some kind of excuse that they really are informal reenactors. The big difference is that at reenactments everyone knows that the people are not real veterans. These tubs of shit running around with fugged up uniforms and medals are simply attention whores, trying to get a slap on the back or a thank you from people they are deceiving.

He is welcome to attend a meeting with real members of the 173 rd. airborne just be ready to get your ass kick you are nothing but a guddam lord punk call me if you have ball so I can personally give you purple add. d 1st 503 rd delays co. If you look at the Fake Warrior Project, it gives the name of the poser mentioned in comment 5 as Robert Vaughn, so I am betting that they are one in the same. Also, it mentions that he may attend International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators meeting, so another place to look out for him
Maybe he’s using an alias. Robert Vaughn was the actor who played Napoleon Solo on The Man From UNCLE.
Listen people. This is my father. Robert Fred Vaughn Sr. He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army, 101st Airborne Ranger. I will ignore all of the insane comments that some of most of you have stated and tell you only that I have known this man my whole life. I know 100% what he has been awarded and actually have the original papers on most of his awards. If you have had experiences with Vietnam Vets, especially ones that did serve nearly 5 1/2 years, can have severe issues for the rest of their life. I’ve seen my Dad at his worst and his best and he has just in the last 5 years or so been able to open up about some of the things he experienced. He was never one to showboat or wear anything associated with the military until now. He may not present it the right way but he is a true american hero who saved lives. You all believe whatever you want, but you can’t take that away from him. Good day.
