AF VET

Once again, TV folks have to hype things up to make it look all fluffy and pretty. They had to glamourize his 3 or 4 months in the AF as he was on track to complete the PJ Pipeline when a serious injury occurred therefore he was medically separated. When this happens, depending on the recruit, they reclassify you into another career field, you are put in a medical hold until you are healed, then they attempt to find another job for you, something else like Supply or any other AFSC you qualify for based on your ASVAB scores. But, he also didn’t make it to his 6-month point, so sometimes the AF just cuts bait and runs and thus — Entry level discharge. As for the “put in charge of a 60-man squad at Basic” … he was a flight leader, they get hired and fired daily, flight leader, dorm leader, element leader … it’s all fluff. I’m sure he was a flight leader, along with about 10 others during basic — the TIs put kids in charge all the time … and also fire them all the time when they screw up. This is just a case of a guy who went to PJ school, blew out his Achilles and the AF determined he was not medically qualified to continue due to the seriousness of his injury. Once again, another TV show trying to FLUFF things up. Sad. And he just went along with it all.
