The Chief

Very sad since he actually did have a pretty good career. Nothing to be ashamed of at all.

25 Bronze stars? wtf ?

Andy

Purple Heart, Flying Cross, and an Air Medal (equivalent of a Bronze Star) seems like a pretty solid rack. I’m not sure I’m prepared to question his POW claim postmortem. Seems like he served pretty honorably to me…

Hi Andy,
Nope, the Air Medal can be issued w/V device and is inferior to the Bronze Star w/ or w/o V device. Got both.

Above is the link to some information about the 1973 military archives fire. When I see stories like this and have read about the number of records losses it makes me wonder how much is listed and how much was false. They say that they don’t know what types of records were all lost.

I served in Vietnam with Gary in the Aviation Section, HHB, DIVARTY, 101st ABN DIV 1968-69. We lived in the same six man tent for eight months. He was awarded a DFC and probably had about 25 OLC’s to his Air Medal. He was not a P.O.W. I remember the day he went home.
