Two Heads of State in Afghanistan
Politics at work in Afghanistan have two rivals candidates who each claim to be president. They have, however, recently signed a power-sharing agreement to end the squabbling over who’s in charge there.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and political rival Abdullah Abdullah have signed a power-sharing agreement two months after both declared themselves the winner of last September’s presidential election.
Mr. Ghani spokesman Sediq Sediqqi tweeted on Sunday that a political deal between Mr. Ghani and Mr. Abdullah had been signed, in which Mr. Ghani would remain President of the war-torn nation. The deal calls for Abdullah to lead the country’s National Reconciliation High Council and some members of Abdullah’s team would be included in Ghani’s Cabinet.
Reconciliation Council
The Reconciliation Council has been given the authority to handle and approve all affairs related to Afghanistan’s peace process.
A peace agreement between the U.S. and the Taliban signed February 29 calls for U.S. and NATO troops to leave Afghanistan. It was seen at the time as Afghanistan’s best chance at peace in decades of war.
Since then, the U.S. has been trying to get the Taliban and the Afghan government to begin intra-Afghan negotiations, but the political turmoil and personal acrimony between Mr. Ghani and Mr. Abdullah impeded talks. The full article is at the link above. It’s worth your time to read it. The definition of poverty in Afghanistan is “someone who can survive on $1 or less a day”. The poverty level has risen from 35% in 2012 to more than 55% last year.

AMEN! Get them out NOW! What can’t be moved blow it in place. It’s not called the Graveyard of Empires for nothing. And look how much American Blood and Treasure has been buried there over the last 18 years. Even modern history reflects the stupidity of getting into that Tar Baby. The Soviets lead to their demise trying to slug it out. Maybe it is time to let the ChiComs have a go at it.
As it is elsewhere in the Middle East, the last 2 standing will be trying to kill one another with a rock.
I believe the Chinese government sees its population of 3+ billions as expendables and doesn’t give a damn about using them up.
And they are quite eager to get their hands on the mineral wealth, e.g., rare earths, that are buried in the hills of Afghanistan and Southwest Asia overall.

With twice the presidents, may be Afghanistan will “redouble” its war effort against terry taliban…*snirk* *snirk*….don’t worry folks, I’ll be here all day…
Just a FYI.
I was in Afghanistan when America helped run the first elections there.
You needed a government picture ID to vote
You had to be on the official voter roll
You had to vote in person
You got your finger dipped in invisible ink so you couldn’t vote twice in case all other preventative measures failed
And some how…..this was not racist.
Apparently there IS a phrase in Pushtu or Urdu for “hanging chad”.
Time for us to leave, just ask the Russians, Brits and French why Afghanistan is known as “The Graveyard of Empires”! And as to those two, they’ll likely raise Militias and try to duke it out, I’ve been there and that tour convinced me that certain groups of people in this world CANNOT be made to civilize!
The US has 2 presidents, one is Trump and the other is obama running things from his shadow gov.t.slow moving coup.
