Gun Law Realities Hit Home

| April 12, 2020

Form 4473

Due to coronavirus fears, gun sales have spiked. Some first-time buyers say they’re turning to guns to keep their families safe. In March, the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) recorded 3.7 million checks—34 percent more than the previous month, and 12 percent more than the previous record in December of 2015 at the height of the “Barack Boom.”

Impressive.

In some states, new potential purchasers are very surprised to learn they can’t simply buy, and walk out of the store with their new-to-them firearm and ammo. It’s called a waiting period, and they are not happy. How did this happen? Draconian gun laws enacted by Democrat controlled State legislators.

Virus-Panicked Liberal Gun Buyers Are Getting Angry When They Discover Their Own Gun Control Laws

I was chatting with a friend of mine recently and the topic of gun sales came up. My friend’s father owns a gun range near me and she said he’s seen a huge amount of liberals coming in to purchase weapons in recent weeks.

How does he know they’re liberals?

“They’re shocked to discover they can’t just walk out of the store with a gun.”

We’ve all heard about gun sales skyrocketing recently, but I hadn’t considered some of the tangential effects of the phenomenon until I spoke to my friend. Not only are many liberals suddenly learning to love their Second Amendment rights, many of them are finding out that the gun control narrative in this country — as repeated loudly and often by Hollywood and the mainstream media — is a complete lie.

So, I contacted my friend’s father to ask about what he is seeing personally at his own range these days. Gregg Bouslog runs On Target Indoor Shooting Range in Laguna Niguel, CA. It’s where I taught my son to shoot and where I’ll teach my daughter once the chaos lifts. He says that while others are stuck at home while the economy grinds to a halt, he’s been working nonstop at the range as the applications for background checks and permits are stacking up daily. Bouslog claims he hasn’t done business like this since the days of Obama.

“As the owner of an indoor shooting range and gun store here in California these past 14 years we have never experienced such a huge demand for firearms and ammunition – even higher than the famous Obama rush of 2012/2013.”

While it’s nice to see some businesses flourishing in these scary times, Bouslog says that safety has been a huge issue at the range, as many first-time buyers seem to have gotten all of their notions about guns and gun safety from television.

“We tried to look at just who the new firearm purchasers were and we believe that more than 60% of these individuals were first time buyers. I can’t describe the amount of fear in my staff as we had the buyers show proof of safe handling as part of the purchase process as required by law. You have never seen so many barrels pointed at sales staff and other customers. It was truly frightening. We had to keep stopping the process to give quick safety lessons. We are adding many more basic classes in the coming weeks and encouraged these buyers to please attend. We hope they do.”

This isn’t hard to believe. As a gun-owner who formerly abhorred the Second Amendment, I can personally testify to the fact that most people who believe they are anti-gun are actually just anti-stupid. They just don’t realize they’re projecting their own stupidity onto law-abiding gun owners. They imagine that we gun owners are just a bunch of yahoos out here combing our mullets, waving our guns around to look sexy while we look for anything or anyone to shoot at any time. They have no respect for the power of a weapon and treat them accordingly, which is what Bouslog is witnessing firsthand at his range. We gun owners, of course, take safety, care and precautions quite seriously. These are ingrained in the culture of gun ownership.

While the safety of the employees at the range is a very serious matter, the most amusing and annoying part for the staff has been watching these first-time buyers discover just how stringent gun laws in California really are, including one of our newest laws requiring background checks before buying ammunition. Bouslog says it’s a bridge too far for the people who have been told their whole lives that it’s easier to get a gun than an abortion.

Heh. To paraphrase Bill Shakespeare, liberals hoisted on their own petard. Read the entire article here, and try not to *grin*: Red State

Hopefully this lesson will resonate within their soul when it comes voting time. I hope they will remember the fear and frustration of feeling helpless in the midst of chaos.

And I hope that the gun orgs are listening and start hosting seminars/classes in the areas that lean to the left. Let them know we are happy they are now seeing the light and the 2nd amendment applies to them too.

Turning one’s guns in because of violence is like cutting your nuts off because your Neighbors next door have eight children. As to these liberal nut jobs who harangued us in the past for buying and having guns, I say welcome to reality!

No surprises here, and I wonder what effect this might have on the political future of California. Then again, this is the Soviet Socialist Republic of Kalifornia, where election fraud is the law of the land.

A guy on my crew is starting up a new gun shop with his brother, Firearms Unlimited California (FU California—love it! ). They have all their licenses and a storefront property, they’re just waiting on the state to recognize that all of its hoops have been jumped through. They are at the top of the list of local small businesses I intend to support.

From the bottom of my deplorable heart, I wish for them to be a COMPLETE and total success!!!

Fyrfighter

That is awesome! If I ever have a moment of insanity and visit california, I’ll have to try to top by and make a purchase.

The Other Whitey

They are, or will be, located in El Cajon, in San Diego County.

Fyrfighter

Copy that.

Berliner

I predict a line of clothing and bumper stickers will be great sellers, even from out of state.

The Other Whitey

The bumper/window stickers are already in circulation. I expect tshirts to be coming soon.

It is not that much of a problem for the socialists running that third world shithole state. The government made sure that any guns owned there are almost impossible to load and fire with any proficiency, and thus not much of a threat to the State. What guns you can own are very severely limited in California as well.

Sapper3307

In Vermont we have only one gun store complaining about little or no sale’s. They only sell top end skeet guns $2k-$20k price range. everybody else is selling out.

David

Looked down more muzzles working as a range safety officer in 4 months as a civilian than I did in years of running ranges in the Army.

Baby Girl and SiL had this bite them on the azz just a few weeks ago in FL. She grew up around my arsenal and he was formerly from upstate NY. Yeah I know, where did I go wrong with her upbringing? Further shame he is a former bubble head AND a lawer. But I digress. I have tried for a number of years to give her a choice of whatever I had for the home. With two children in the house she demurred. Tried to buy her a nice little S&W hammerless purse model at Christmas in ’17. Maybe later Daddy. The SHTF pushed them to the same local ACE Hdwr/gun store that we had been at. She and SiL have taken the course and had a license and still had to wait for a week. And the piece(s) had increased by $200 each. All of her soccer mom buddies had discussed for years now how easy it was to get firearms. They waited too long to try too, and now the prices are even higher and there is no inventory to be found.

Myself, I’m looking into getting some scuba gear and checking out all of the lakes, near the quicksand bogs that were flooded by the hurrinado/tornacanes.

5/77, upstate NY (e.g., north of Albany) is reasonably conservative. It’s Albany and south that’s pretty much hopeless.

If your SIL is from that part of the NYSR (New York Socialist Republic), he’s probably all right.

From Plattsmouth area. His Dad was on a DD Atlantic Fleet during the Viet of the Nam Times and retired as a New Yawk State Trooper. He’s a good guy. His ex-wife, SiL’s Mom is a certified bat crap crazy loon. SiL joined the submarine service to get away from her, 1 sister got married straight from high school and moved to Colorado, sister #2 joined the Army, was a Combat Medic during the GWOT Times, 3 tours in Iraq, was gonna be put on recruiting duty in the home town, changed units and volunteered for A’stan. She’s now married with children and in the NE Guard. Baby son turned to drugs and alcohol to escape her torture. He’s clean now and far away from her.

SiL is a good kid, smart as all hell but as dumb as a sack of rocks, if you know what I mean. He was the tea kettle operator on the boomers and got out after 6 years as an E-6. Damn good Attorney, has argued cases before SCOTUS, takes good care of my Baby Girl and the Grands, so he’s got that going for him. His Dad and I have both laffed at him when he steps on it and will say at the same time, “Boy got too much of his Mama in him.” His politics do run conservative and he and I are gradually weaning the liberal out of my daughter that her Mama and the school system indoctrinated her with.

Are ya saying that the boy is educated beyond his intelligence?

Steve 1371

I think you mean Plattsburgh. It’s on the west coast of Lake Champlain. Nice area. My oldest grandson was born there. His mother worked at Miner Institute in Chazy at the time.

5th/77th FA

Yeah he is Tox, and yep you are right Steve. Can’t never remember that name, but y’all know how us uneducated morons are, 6th grade education, married to a FIRST cousin, and only wear shoes to a funeral or wedding. I made a number of business trips to downtown Noo Yawk City, Ellenville, and White Plains (?), other than that stayed the hell away. Long as he takes good care of my baby girl, I’ll let him continue to steal oxygen. 😀 Y’all Papas know how it is. Ain’t NO man good enough for Daddy’s Darlin’ Dumplin’ Daughter.

Hondo

OK, I can see why you have that view of NY state. Even Ellenville isn’t far enough away from NYC to be uncorrupted by NYC’s miasma – it’s still south of Albany. (smile)

Best I can tell, get north of Albany and the state (or at least the people) are generally OK; ditto western NY. And if you’ve never seen Niagara Falls, you might want to put that on your bucket list. It’s impressive.

PFM

Trying to figure out why anyone would have business in Ellenville 🙂

Channel Master Antenna Plant was there. We were a Prime Distributor of their entire product line.

Talk about firearms price increases: A few days ago, I got a great response on helping me out with my Hi Standard Victor Mod 107 on the hard racking problem I had which turns out to be common with Hi Standard rim fire guns which needs a strong hammer spring to ignite those .22’s. I got this info from a Hi Standard thread site where owners were asking why they were hard to rack and who bought their’s back in the 1970’s as I did back in 1974 after the gun came out in around 1972. Wasn’t that difficult to rack back then but I’m a lot older now and after my rotator cuff procedure and not working out, I believe I lost some power in my arms. So I once again went off on one of my tangents in that I wanted to mention rising prices. I bought the gun in 1974 for around $170.00+ give or take a couple of bucks and I received an email that was sent to me showing 3 Hi Standard Victor’s ranging in bids from $1000,00-4000.00 bucks I guess it has to do with the condition of the gun. Mine was used in a few of Police El (bullseye) rimfire (.22) matches following the centerfire (.38) matches and got some rust from shooting on non over head shooting points in the rain which didn’t help my range case which almost fell apart and had to brad nail and glue it together.

David

Said $170 was about 10% of the price of a new VW then. Minimum wage went to $2 an hour in 1974, so that was 85 hours’ gross pay.
At federal $7.25 minimum, that same 85 hours is $616.25, which will buy you a very nice comparable Ruger or Browning… actually you would have about $200 left over for performance mods and accessories. You can’t confuse collector’s value into an apples to apples comparison, otherwise you will be trying to compare an original Ferrari 250 at $18k to a Kia.

Hondo

It’s even more skewed than that, David.

Based on inflation, $170 in 1974 is equivalent to almost $900 today – $890.05, to be precise.

https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

For the equivalent of that $170 in 1974 ($890 today), you could buy a nice Ruger or Browning high-end target .22 – AND have enough left over for a decent 9mm carry pistol.

Haha, libtards! Sucks, don’t it?

Poetrooper

Common sense should dictate that sooner or later, liberals will get tired of being wrong on almost every major issue.

But then I did say common sense, didn’t I?

USMC Steve

Sir, you are going on the fallacious assumption that the average libtard is stable and grounded in reality. Not one of the ones I met yet were. Their situational ethics prevent them from being wrong ever.

Messkit

I’m waiting for Christmas, when the flu fear is forgotten, and hundreds of barely handled firearms start to stack up on the “used gun” shelves at my LGS 🙂
