Democratic Party Establishment Freakout After Bernie Sanders Wins Nevada

| February 23, 2020

Sanders laughs triumphantly at Nevada win

Bernie has rocked the Dems with his hat trick, winning the popular vote in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada, a first. “We just won the Nevada caucus. This grassroots movement is unstoppable,” Sanders tweeted. “Together, let’s win the Democratic nomination, defeat Trump and transform the country!”

Not many moderate Democrats, Independents and Republicans want the transformation Bernie has in mind, though.

Bernie won Nevada in a walk, winning 46% of the votes. Biden came in a distant second with 19.6%, Buttigieg took 15.3% and Warren 10.1%. Bloomberg didn’t even show up.

Buttigieg, who is trying to position himself as Sanders’ main rival and draw in voters, stated “I believe the only way to truly deliver any of the progressive changes we care about is to be a nominee who actually gives a damn about the effect you are having, from the top of the ticket, on those crucial, front-line House and Senate Democrats running to win, who we need to win, to make sure our agenda is more than just words on a page.”

This earned him a tweet from NYC Mayor Bolshevik Bill de Blasio,
“Try not to be so smug when you just got your ass kicked,” de Blasio tweeted to Buttigieg. “You know how we form a winning coalition to beat Trump? With a true multi-racial coalition of working Americans: something @BernieSanders has proven he can do + you haven’t. Dude, show some humility.”

de Blasio dropped out from the Presidential race in September after a lackluster campaign.

JOEL B. POLLAK

The Democratic Party has no answer for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

Sanders, who won the Nevada caucuses decisively on Saturday evening, also took the overall delegate lead.

And after sweeping Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada — the first time anyone has won the popular vote in the first three primary contests — Sanders is in the pole position in the race for the party’s presidential nomination.

It is a prospect that has rattled fellow candidates, as well as the party establishment.

The Atlantic declared:

Efforts to stop [Sanders] so far have been ineffective and made the party seem out of touch. This summer, party leaders may be forced to accept the nomination of a man who’s not officially a member of the party, who won’t have won a majority of primary voters, and whose agenda is popular with his progressive base but doesn’t have as much support with Democrats as a whole.

Former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who finished third in Nevada, warned fellow Democrats that the “democratic socialist” from Vermont is unelectable: “Senator Sanders believes in an inflexible, ideological revolution that leaves out most Democrats, not to mention most Americans.”

But even if former Vice President Joe Biden wins South Carolina next week, it will not be enough to stop Sanders, who will finish second or better. Late entrant Michael Bloomberg has nearly half a billion dollars already, but inspires little confidence after a lackluster debate in Las Vegas last week.

Though Sen. Amy Klobuchar was hailed as the “great moderate hope” after her surprise third-place finish in New Hampshire, she did poorly in Nevada and does not have the resources to match Sanders.

Looks like the Russians are getting their wish. That or Bernie is running roughshod over a splintered and disorganized Democrat party. Read the rest here: Breitbart

If Nanny Bloomers wins, the Bernie-heads will go apeshit and if Bernie wins, the rest of the D-rat party is going to go nuts, either way it looks like they’re gonna commit cannibalism, TRUMP 2020!!!

Poetrooper

Some sad news being reported out of California: Clint Eastwood must be losing it in his declining years–he’s just endorsed Bloomberg.

Fyrfighter

I saw that.. very surprising and disappointing..He and his movies have been a fairly solid conservative voice, until now… His depiction of Zero as an empty chair was epic.

Comm Center Rat

Clint needs to channel Dirty Harry (Magnum Force) and remember: “A man’s got to know his limitations.”

But I’m not surprised that a actor/director worth hundreds of millions of dollars would support a billionaire for the presidency.

OWB

Kinda makes me wonder just what is going on here. His ads have finally made it to the coupla TV channels I actually watch – they all brag about things he did while he was still a Republican. Hilarious.

NHSparky

Bloomie was/is a political opportunist, nothing more. He switched parties so he could get a third term as mayor.

Make no mistake, his is a statist in the Sanders vein, tho.

Ret_25X

The party of slavery, exploitation, misery, homelessness, joblessness, and hate deserves Bernie.

I hope they go all in and not only lose, but lose the house, state houses, mayors, and even dog catchers.

That party is past stupid and into urinal cake eating.

And no, this is no endorsement of the other stupid party. But at least they are not advocating the end of the Bill of Rights.

Comm Center Rat

Mike Bloomberg has at least 53.4 billion reasons why he should be the Democrat’s presidential nominee. If the 8th richest man in America can’t buy his party’s nomination over a Socialist candidate, then capitalism is surely dead. /sarc

Hey Dems, do you want another 4 years of Trump? Cause this is how you get another 4 years. Keep America Great!

LC

Well, the question of whether Bernie can beat President Trump is still unclear. But it seems to me that the DNC is totally fucked – if Democrats keep voting for Bernie, but they go for a brokered convention and choose someone else, they alienate his voters, and notably their enthusiasm, and lose in the general. And his ideas and ‘grass-roots’ level politics are anathema to their politics.

Poetrooper

“They will stay home if he is not on the ballot.”

And that’s what’s scaring the living crap outta the Democrat power brokers. They don’t mind screwing Bernie out of the nomination but they know that no other Democrat can win if they alienate the Bern-brains. Those fools WILL stay home.

Or worse, they’ll break away and form a new, third party. So, the Dems are damned if they do and screwed all to hell if they don’t.

Unlike LC, I don’t think there’s any question of how a Trump-Sanders contest would play out and neither do most Democrats. Just listen to and read what they’re saying. They know that a bald, decrepit old Stalinist who lived off women during the early part of his life and the taxpayers for the rest of it, with no major legislative or leadership accomplishments is not just a hard sell to the American electorate–it’s impossible.

Democrats being Democrats, it wouldn’t surprise ol’ Poe in the least if Bernie should suddenly experience an “incident” (medical or otherwise) between now and the convention.

Mason

Summing up my thoughts on Sanders v Trump nicely, Poe. LC must be the only one out there that thinks there’s even a remote chance that Sanders could campaign against Trump and win. None of the DNC candidates stood a chance, except for Tulsi, but she didn’t bow at the altar of Clinton and they showed her the door.

LC

We live in a country where the biggest demographic in Presidential elections is those who didn’t vote — if that block gets engaged, even by a moderate few percent, it has the potential to shift things considerably. Do I think it’s likely Sanders will win? No, I’ve got zero reasons to believe that, but I also don’t think it unlikely.

I also think TAH suffers from a little bit of an echo chamber, and overstates Trump’s support among the general population. The notion that Tulsi would’ve been a valid choice for the Democrats is laughable – she’s gotten, what, 1%? No, they wouldn’t show up for her, and she would have zero chance.

Time will tell, but I think most elections are close to toss-ups. It generally comes down to two or three states, and sometimes less than 1% in those states. Everything from weather to traffic can impact that.

Mason

Tulsi had zero chance because the Democrats as a party have moved so far left. She’s moderate. She’s young, smart, poised, has the bona fides of service, and that’s not to even mention she’s a woman and a minority. She SHOULD be what the DNC puts up against trump. She gives off way more class than he ever could.

Tulsi didn’t kiss the right rings. The DNC is now all about whose turn it is. This year it’s the establishment’s pick of Biden or the angry, young people’s pick of Bernie (because he got cheated last time).

They couldn’t put forth an actual moderate with a chance to show something the opposite of Trump. They have to swing so far to the left that we’re months away from them nominating an open socialist!

That half this country doesn’t vote is obviously a potential for a game changer, but it won’t happen. The half that doesn’t vote just doesn’t care. Bernie ain’t gonna motivate them. He sounds freaking crazy. He is if he thinks his ideas will work.

Thunderstixx

And she looks GREAT in her Fire Red bikini !!!!!

LC

The issue the Democrats have right now is that no candidate tracks well across all the demographic groups — no matter who they choose, they’re going to alienate some part of the party. This is why the stupid, clown-car primary season may seal their fate – the longer they snipe at each other, the more people stay home when ‘their’ candidate loses. This isn’t a Sanders problem, this is a Democratic Party problem.

And yes, those who support Trump have a very high level of enthusiasm, and will show up no matter what. It always comes down to who shows up (plus some electoral college math, obviously), but the big unknown is if the non-voting public shows up this time. It’s hardly a normal election cycle, in my opinion.

Poetrooper

The issue the Democrats have right now is that they have ignored history and human nature. Despots long ago learned that the only way to form and hold together widely disparate coalitions is through unrelenting, overwhelming force, and even then the human dynamics are such that such political amalgams generally are very short-lived with collapse from within being inevitable.

The Democrats simply have no means of applying the political force needed to prevent their varied special interest constituencies from undermining and backstabbing the candidates favored by other special interest groups, many of which groups are themselves coalitions of even more sub-specialized interests.

They haven’t made it any easier for themselves with all all their gender/sexual aberration nonsense, which just further fractionates an already impossibly incohesive base. They are learning at last that their oh so virtuous promotion of diversity has diverse consequences.

As for my being just another reverberation in an echo chamber just because I realistically see Sanders as no match for Trump, I am by no means sanguine regarding the election. Too many unforeseen events can occur between now and then. Far too many Democrats are already hoping for a market collapse so that Trump will not be able to run on the economy. That they might take active steps to weaken the economy is not far-fetched based on their current state of lunacy.

I also do not underestimate Trump’s ability to step squarely on his own crank due to his brash overconfidence and his unfortunately too-strong tendency to publicly demean his political opponents. I do understand his desire to stick it to them after all they have put him through, but still a bit more restraint could broaden his appeal with many moderate Democrats and Independents.

I would wager there are many here at TAH who share my feelings, LC, so please don’t tar us all with your over-broad brush.

We are seeing the culmination of decades of indoctrination thru the public school system. Quit referring to Bernie as a Socialist and start calling this Commie what he is. They took teaching out of the schools and made them indoctrination centers. The gradual takeover of the political system was slowed down by Trump winning in ’16. We need to not only win back the Federal Gubmint of the people, for the people, and by the people, we also need to take back the local control that has been given up. Trump needs to win in 2020, but we also need that whole “down ballot” thing. They almost have enough young dumbazzes to elect the Commie Bernie. The only hope that true Patriots and Conservatives have is the donks beat themselves with a split ala 1860,1968,and 1980.

Bernie is winning simply on the free sh*t ticket and the useful idiots are too stupid/uneducated to know any better. They are like the mouse caught in the trap. They didn’t realize why the cheese was free, there for the taking.

You lose yet again.

Oh no, Commissar is far smarter than that. Like all true communists, he seeks to take and hold tyrannical power for his own enrichment.

Sounds just fine to me.

Commissar

It is really simple. Bernie will trounce Trump if he gets the nomination. Trump only seems strong in the right wing echo chamber. He has never in his entire term in office held positive average approval rating. He handed republicans their biggest midterm loss in more than half a century. He has motivated the progressive and liberal base to participate in politics in a way they have not done so since the 1930s. The economic down term has already started and the trillion a year in deficit spending, near zero interest rates, and hundreds of billions of government spending in the repo market was not enough to save the economy from Trumpism. Worse, he used all the tools he would have used to fix a broken economy to artificially keep it afloat so this next recession will be an absolute disaster with no way to recover for years. They are even discussing negative interest rates to keep the zombie economy staggering along until after the election. Trump administration knows it is fucked and is desperate to buy another 6 months. Th only chance Trump has is if the DNC undermines Bernie in a brokered convention. If that happens The DNC is done. The Democratic Party will be irreparably shattered. Trump will win in November against a splintered opposition. A new liberal party will emerge, the DNC will align with Never Trumper republicans to create a centrist/establishment party and the GOP will completely become Trump’s party. We will have an election cycle or two with three competitive parties, which is not sustainable in a winner take all system. The GOP, now a hollowed husk consumed by Trump’s parasitic malignancy will die when he dies. And we will have a right shifting centrist and liberal party remaining. Liberty party vs Justice party. And besides the win in November you all will hate every minute of that future. Including the last few years of the Trump presidency as you all become the dog that caught the car and was crushed by it because you failed spot authoritarianism if it wears a red hat… Read more »

Bernie will trounce Trump?

Stop. Hurt. Sides. Laughing.

You need to get out more.

LC

As I’ve said above, I have no intuition for how the election will go yet – I expect it’ll be close, but that’s just because that’s how I see the country at this point.

But a lot of the regulars here seem to imply it’ll be a blowout for Trump – care to make a prediction on the EC and, just for kicks, popular vote? You might be right, but I’d love to get a sense of what numbers people think are likely.

Poetrooper

LC, if your prediction of a close race is accurate, then why are so many liberal pundits in such a panic at the prospect of a Bernie candidacy? Could it be that they accurately realize that if the Bern-brains prevail, the party will lose the vast middle of the American electorate. And if Bernie is screwed out of the candidacy again, as in 2016, that there will be a huge defection of Bern-brains?

Belatedly the Democrats are learning the veracity of that old aphorism about not being able to have their cake and eat it, too.

LC

First, I imagine we disagree on what constitutes a ‘liberal pundit’, but even going with that, my first assumption is that the media loves controversy. The expectation -hell, even my expectation- was that Biden would be the nominee, and most people didn’t think he could stick his foot in his mouth quite as frequently as he has. Bernie is unexpected, and right now, all the other members of the DNC clown car are trying to sow some fear and doubt so as to win the race. That’s just your usual politics and media stuff.

Second, do you really think these same pundits who were (generally) so wrong in 2016 now are somehow so capable of foresight to see the result of the 2020 election? Mind you, I don’t think Bernie’s chances are strong, I just feel it’s a bit of a toss-up, depending on who shows up. But I don’t read anything into the fear-mongering tea leaves of pundits on this. The media wants controversy, and the other candidates want to sow doubt.

Let’s see how things settle once the primaries are over. And again, I’d love to hear numbers on what people think the EC and PV will look like – care to share your guess?

Poetrooper

You are correct that the media loves to fear-monger and keep the controversy bubbling, but I still think it’s a bad sign when the team’s cheerleaders are wearing long faces and openly calling for the quarterback to be replaced.

Second, I’m not referencing poll results here, which led to all the 2016 prognostications, but rather the individual opinions and observations of some of the party’s most fervent cheerleaders.

Conversely, an increasing number of background Democrat election pro’s are coming forward with dire warnings that their party is sailing smack into a herd of icebergs. Even some House Democrats admitted, with uncharacteristic honesty, that the impeachment farce was motivated by the widespread belief among the Democrat leadership that it was the only way to defeat Trump in November.

And no, I am in no way foolish enough to offer specific numbers in a contest where even the most vaunted experts are so frequently wrong. Ol’ Poe is simply a sideline observer of trending developments, one who is fully aware of his side’s too-frequent penchant for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Foolish as it may be, however, I have and will continue, to send the Republicans money as I consider the least harmful among the Democrats an existential threat to the republic.

Poetrooper

By the way, you actually thought Biden would take it? When he first announced, this old geezer said to his wife, “That old geezer ain’t gonna cut it–he’s too damned old and lacks the physical and mental stamina.” After hearing him speak a couple of times, it was evident the old geezer had dementia issues as well.

Do you seriously think Democrat power brokers don’t realize the risks inherent in nominating an obviously impaired candidate? Joe is nothing more than a place-holder until a brokered convention selects another Obama type, probably a black female.

Now THAT is where Trump might run into some headwinds.

NHSparky

Ala 1964, 1972, or 1984? No. Maybe not even 1988, but close.

I don’t see or hear any third party candidates rattling about, and the usual Green and other fringe candidates will only drain from Sanders or whoever the Dem nominee will be.

My prediction? Trump flips NH, and possibly ME, CO, NV, and MN.

GOP picks up 1-2 Senate seats, and at least 12-14 House seats, and has about a 1/3 chance of regaining control.

If Bernie is the nominee, throw in VA and NM, one more Senate seat, and 18-20 House seats, which would give the GOP better than 50-50 odds of taking back the House.

Trump wins popular vote by 4 percent against anyone except Sanders, and if it is Sanders, 7-8 percent.

A Proud Infidel®™

Oh, please. The Democratic Party is in disarray. Democratic party leaders have been gobsmacked by Bernie’s lead and don’t know what to do. The Democrat centrists are staying home because all the DNC has running are dementia addled old white men and a bunch of leftist freaks. So only leftist freaks come out to vote in the primaries and most likely in the general election. It’s quite telling when the most moderate Dem running is a gay guy. Democrat centrists will stay home or, as they’ve done in the past, vote Republican.

The polls haven’t hanged. The majority of Democrats will refuse to vote for a Socialist like Sanders. So that leaves the Dems with two choices. Allow the Socialist to run, thereby handing the election to Trump, or hold a brokered convention and strip Bernie of his delegates. That will fracture the party and the left will leave, thereby ensuring a Trump victory. It’s a lose-lose for the Democrats.

As for your leftward drift, There are many articles that indicate the younger generations are more conservative than their elders.

Neither can argue in a civil manner, or clearly state their positions in anything other than bumper sticker slogans. These kids scare the hell out of me! I am admittedly in a sort of bubble, do any of the other 60 and 70-somethings out here have this in their families? I really worry for America as these kids assume power over others.

LC

I can’t speak to your niece – I find the whole ‘minorities can’t be racist’ stuff to be hogwash and naive. The best thing I can say is most grow out of it. I can, however, shed some light on your brother-in-law. Take this comment, for example:

He has a kid that would have been put down in previous, and some current Socialist States.

In a nutshell, when you see Sanders, and think ‘socialist’, you look at the worst of Russia, China, Venezuela, etc., and when he sees Sanders, and thinks ‘democratic socialism‘, he thinks of the best aspects of France, Norway, New Zealand, etc. And you talk past each other.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Indeed most Bernie supporters don’t understand Socialism and Social Policy are not at all the same thing.

The Nordic model isn’t even socialism as some of those nations don’t even have a published minimum wage law, they are more free market capitalists with severe restrictions on capitalism and a higher tax rate that focuses on social policy safety nets.

Americans on both sides like to confuse the two terms because for both sides it suits a purpose, however words have meanings and it’s important to maintain the distinctions.

LC

I’d expand your first point beyond just Bernie supporters into the public at large, but we’re in broad agreement on most of that.

And ‘words have meanings’ is a nice idea, but more often than we might think, it’s not really the case – the meaning is incredibly dependent on the intent and context of its use. That’s especially true for conceptual things, or cross-cultural things.

If a kid tells his dad he’s putting on pants to go play football with a pretty radical Muslim kid down the street, well, the meaning of that is going to depend a lot on his age, what country he’s in, and a host of other things. Pants, football, and radical all can have very different meanings.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

There’s only one futbol my friend…

that other shit is running and using your hands not much “foot” on the ball at all…

Twist

Both sports evolved from the same sport called “football”. One evolved to using mostly hands and the other evolved to using mostly feet. I had also read before that it was the English that came up with the name “soccer”.

BruteLarson407

That’s certainly plausible. He should say that though. I don’t shout(I can’t). I also stay calm. He gets so angry that he once threw his sister(my wife)out of his house at Thanksgiving for only gently disagreeing with him. I had stopped going(to his house). It’s the rage I don’t understand. Maybe it’s about something else. His wife lord’s over him. All of us hit the geo-demographic lottery big by virtue of being fortunate enough to be born here. I don’t get it. Thanks though! Maybe I’ll be the one who brings that point up, if I ever get the chance without being shouted down. I had much more respect for my elders. If I hadn’t I’d have been knocked out someone in my parents’ generation.

BruteLarson407

My punctuation, syntax, and grammar are C- today. It should read ‘knocked out by,’ and ‘lords.’

I know folks that said they didn’t like Trump but were going to vote for him back in 2016. Fast forward to today and those same folks like Trump quite a lot now. What needs to happen and probably will is the democraps lose big time not just the presidential race but the senate and house too, plus the state races as well. It’s time to put an end to this pc bullshit and hand-outs.

Just to be on the safe side, I’d avoid any trips to Milwaukee around mid-July.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

So I’m going to offer an option that might make Commissar happy, in that as a fan of process I don’t think Trump v Sanders is anywhere near close to the slam dunk the Trump base believes that it is. Last April I wrote about Sanders v Biden and said that the one thing about Sanders that he has in common with Trump is that he is a disruptor. Trump was a disruptor in the Republican party but also represented something other than the status quo with respect to the Democrat candidate who was nothing more than a corporate shill running at a time when status quo was not what people were seeking. The big question for the 2020 election is not whether or not Sanders is a socialist, it’s not whether or not Sanders is a commie, it’s whether or not the relatively decent economy translates into the electorate feeling confident about their paychecks. With a few very rare exceptions Americans vote confidence in their paychecks. Healthcare is a serious confidence breaker in anyone’s paychecks these days. Even with employer contributions many people seeking family coverage are paying $10,000 a year. Against the national median salary 10k is a difficult hit to take and still figure out how to afford to own a home and actually build some personal/family wealth over a working lifetime. The argument over Sanders’ demographics has been put to rest if you are actually reading the numbers….Independents and Hispanics have become Sanders supporters at about 37%, we know he has the youth vote, but he only lost the 65 and older voters to Biden…the other interesting group that Sanders has that is under reported at this time are white males without college degrees a big part of Trump’s base among independents and on the Democrat side firmly in the Sanders camp. If Sanders wins the nomination the “blue no matter who” crowd will vote for Sanders and the people who stayed home as independents in the last election after Bernie got screwed will turn out and vote. If Sanders is the nominee, I think it’s… Read more »

VOV, I’ll reiterate what I said to LC: If Bernie’s chances of winning are as good as you seem to think, then why is the professional Democrat leadership so eager to get rid of him? Why are liberal media pundits, most of whom are at least as left-leaning as Bernie, so worried about his being their candidate? Don’t you just suppose it’s because they’ve had their election statisticians run the numbers and those numbers do not add up to victory?

As I said in a comment yesterday, I’m not comfortable with all this over-confident, “Trump in a landslide” talk either. But based on the Bernie-induced divisions within the Democrat party, I don’t see Sanders as their path to victory.

And I don’t think the current Democrat leadership does either.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

They’re so eager to get rid of him for precisely the same reasons the “never Trump”ers were to get rid of Trump.

He’s not one of them. He’s not beholden to their same corporate interests

The leadership of the Democratic party has lost the membership, and they don’t realize it any more than the Republican leadership did in 2016.

Those “liberal leaning” pundits work for corporate media and share as much with Bernie as you and I do…

If you have been watching prior to the actual start of the campaign there has been a concerted media effort to pretend Bernie wasn’t even really running. Now that he’s winning, just like 2016 and Trump, they have to report the results…but if you watch you’ll see the media claiming that Klobuchar’s third place in New Hampshire was a win and Bernie’s win in Nevada just makes him weaker…

Because I am not a D nor am I an R I watch the process with a more disinterested eye than most folks. I noticed this with Trump that the leadership was doing all they could to stop him, and yet he kept winning. Claiming all manner of “he can’t win” nonsense and yet he kept winning.

Flip to 2020 and what do you see the Leadership all claiming Bernie can’t win (he may yet get blown out but if he wins Super Tuesday we’re talking a different game) claiming (like with Trump) he’s not a “true” Democrat.

The similarities are there if we choose to see them. As I recall those “polls and statisticians” all had Trump being slaughtered in an election…perhaps the worst beating a Republican would take…how’d that work out again?

The leadership is scared to death they are losing control of their party…stay tuned it’s gonna be a fun ride.

11B-Mailclerk

Brokered convention – where they ask someone to step in as the candidate.

And that is when things get froggy.

Poetrooper

Amen…see my above reply to LC.

Poetrooper

The similarities in their party’s perception of them as outsiders is correct. However, the similarities end there–there couldn’t be more difference between the two men. While you may question DJT’s methods and results, at least he’s had some. Bernie more closely resembles Obama when it comes to a lack of demonstrated accomplishments although in Bernie’s case, a reviewable history of that lifetime failure is there as visible proof.

For once Hillary had something right when she summed up Bernie as an unlikable old asshole who’s accomplished nothing.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Forget the politics of it and just look at the reality of the disruptor aspect of it. I never said they were the same guy politically beyond being outsiders and disruptors that their respective party leadership doesn’t want.

No one, including you as I recall, thought Trump was a great first choice and many thought he had no chance to win in the general election. Predictions based on 538’s polling were not favoring Trump and many of us saw that as a Clinton presidency being unavoidable.

Anyone thinking that Bernie “can’t” win under any circumstance isn’t paying attention.

The voting public’s fears of a socialist no longer exist in the demographics under 55 years of age. And that age group outnumbers the older folks at this point. Consequently a large turnout of younger voters puts Bernie in the white house…that’s a very, very real possibility. It doesn’t flip the senate, it might lose the house, but a large turnout of younger voters doesn’t hurt Bernie’s chances at all.

Poetrooper

Your recollection is spot on–I did indeed write multiple pieces urging TAH readers to hold their noses and vote AGAINST HILLARY. Four years later, I’m still not thrilled with some of Trump’s more crass behaviors, but I can damned sure see that he has been the best president in my lifetime for the good of this Republic and therefore deserving of my continued support.

As for the young folks voting for Bernie, I think your view of young people being enamored of socialism may be somewhat influenced by your coastal cultural surroundings. Out here in flyover country, the young being reliably leftist in their politics, tends to be true only in college towns, where family and faith exert less influence on their political thinking.

Sorry, VOV, but for once (and very rarely) I’m in agreement with Hillary, the media pundits and the Democrat leadership, that Bernie is a loser for them. We’ll probably never find out because I don’t believe they’ll ever let him have the nomination, regardless of what it takes to stop him.

And keeping in mind that this is still a Clinton-influenced Democrat party we’re talking about here, I do mean “regardless”.

NHSparky

I’d rather the GOP do nothing than vote in a clown that will throw me into a system that has the competence of the DMV with the compassion of the IRS, and using his own (slanted) figures, would cost me at least another $10k/yr in federal taxes.

As long as Trump keeps Jerome Powell and the Federal Reserve Board focused on continuing de facto quantitative easing a Republican landslide victory looks likely.

For those few here who seem to think Bernie is a formidable candidate, here’s a headline from the left:

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/02/23/sanders-democratic-establishment-panic-mode-117065

And here are the 3d and 4th paragraphs:

“In 30-plus years of politics, I’ve never seen this level of doom. I’ve never had a day with so many people texting, emailing, calling me with so much doom and gloom,” said Matt Bennett of the center-left group Third Way after Sanders’ win in Nevada.

Bennett said moderates firmly believe a Sanders primary win would seal Donald Trump’s reelection. “It’s this incredible sense that we’re hurtling to the abyss. I also think we could lose the House. And if we do, there would be absolutely no way to stop [Trump]. Today is the most depressed I’ve ever been in politics.”

I suspect the Donks are going to get drastic to keep Bernie off the ticket.

The loons may riot, but the gravy-train riders will -not- surrender to an out-n-proud Red.

And drastic Donks do …. seriously underhanded shit.

Stacy Abrams is fishing real hard to go all seagull style balls deep for bernie. She wants to use the VP nod to go for the prez shot. There was a great big bunch of unexplained outside money for her guv race down here. And now that they know how many votes they need to steal in GA, that makes her more attractive to him. That would get all of her Free Sh*t Army Troops on board too. I’ll even go out on a limb here and say that in spite of the excellent free health care that congress critters get, bernie ain’t gonna make 8 more years. That makes her more attractive to the rest of the demon rats.

I bet that the D-rat party would rather hand Das Hildebeast the nomination again than let Bernie get it!

Trump will curb stomp Grandpa Gulag, breadline Bernie, there’s far too much footage of him shooting his damn fool mouth off about the glories of Marxism to keep hidden. The man is a true believer and while that is attractive to callow youth (or arrested idiots like Lars) most Americans with property and savings are appalled, and the callow youth often don’t turn out anyway. He’s the American Corbyn and you see how that turned out but you have to let the left put their ideologically most pure out in front as sacrificial lambs so that the real globalist and corporatist leaders of gentry liberalism can reign in the rest of the rubes after the slaughter.

Bolshie Bernie demonstrates his abysmal grasp of basic economics by releasing his fabulist tax plan.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/bernie-sanders-payments-green-new-deal-medicare-for-all-explanation

90% of that wealth to be taxed would disappear upon the announcement of his victory, collapsing the economy.

That collapse is always the actual goal. Wreck what is so we can try, again, to finally get it right this time. The chaos and despair they sow themselves is used to justify the “necessary” authoritarian next steps, that further wreck things but somehow enrich and empower the insider apparatchiks. And the middle class is of course next on the Bolshie agenda. Because they cannot so easily escape, and that is where the real money is.

Always the jackboots stamp when Reds attain power. Always Power to Certain people and Woe to the People.

Bolshie Bernie isn’t even trying to hide it anymore. Nor are his True Believers. They -like- the Cuban gulag. They -like- that the Venezuelan economy collapsed and their oil industry slowed to a trickle. Misery and chaos call for greater measures. Rage grows and blood flows.

Feature. Not bug.

So thanks, Bolshie Bernie. Thanks for being out and proud about it. Thanks, also, for exposing your minions.

And the media is going apeshit over his comments on 60 Minutes.

Those comments are tame compared to 30 years ago, and no Lars, he hasn’t changed since then. He’s just managed to put some pretty sprinkles on the shit sundae he’s selling.

OWB

Coupla thoughts here.

Doesn’t matter an iota whether he’s a commie, a general nut, or, as he claims, full blown socialist. The sane among us want no part of him, his proposals, or those who support him and his proposals. It really is that simple.

This mess would be much funnier were it not so very sad. Still, it’s pretty entertaining that the media is attempting to foist upon the DNC a guy who has never claimed to be a Democrat and a recent “covert” whose few ads I have seen seem to represent traditional RNC values more than any other party.

Oh, well. Looks from here that the only way Trump can fail to win reelection is for all the clowns to discourage none but the most rabid from even showing up to vote.
