Jury acquits woman who claimed self-defense in stabbing

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A jury on Friday acquitted a Pine Ridge woman who said she fatally stabbed her boyfriend in self-defense.

Jurors deliberated about four-and-a-half hours before finding Doreen Brown, 44, not guilty of second-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter in the June 27, 2019, screwdriver stabbing death of 43-year-old Donald McMillan Jr.

McMillan was found dying on Brown’s couch with wounds on his back and another in his chest that pierced his lung and heart. Brown said she stabbed him with a screwdriver she found on the ground after he attacked her with a tree branch.

After the jury’s verdict, Judge Jeffrey Viken told Brown she was free to go. Brown had been held at the Pennington County Jail since last July, the Rapid City Journal reported.

DA: No charges in 2017 death of Derek Garcia in Roosevelt County

by Jacob Helker
ROOSEVELT COUNTY, N.M. (KVII) — No charges will be filed in the shooting death of Derek Garcia in Roosevelt County last July, according to Ninth District Attorney Andrea Reeb.

In an announcement on Friday, Reeb said the grand jury declined to charge Garcia’s shooter, saying the shooter acted in self-defense.

Garcia was found dead at a home in Roosevelt County in the early morning of July 27, 2019.

The shooter later turned himself in to law enforcement, saying he shot Garcia after Garcia threatened him with a knife. Two others were also found with gunshot and stab wounds and were taken to the hospital.

Sunday Trifecta, Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes. Not much to add to that, except I spoke with our own WW yesterday. He’s home and recuperating, and is very thankful for the well wishes and kind thoughts from everyone. He expects to make an appearance on the board tomorrow.

Little more can reasonably be aimed at, with respect to the people at large, than to have them properly armed and equipped. — Alexander Hamilton, The Federalist Papers: No. 29

“screwdriver stabbing death”

Don’t screw with me bro…

5th/77th FA

Yep. He screwed up and got screwed. Ms Thang wasn’t screwing around. Wonder if he was also blued and tattooed? She shouldn’t have put up with his BS for 15 months.

Mr. Garcia broke that one hard and fast rule; don’t take a knife to a gun fight. And the prosecutors appears to be an idiot too.

Ky: Wrong house dirtbag. You’re up the creek now.

Another Sunday Morning DRT Trifecta to help WW along on his Recovery Road. Good to hear he is doing better and will be back into the fight with us. He has been missed.

The best thing about that thar Model 629 hand cannon gun pr0n is that if you do miss with the FIRST round, the shock wave from the passing of the bullet will knock the dirtbag down.

The best thing about the Ms Thang is EVERYTHING! Honey Hush. Let us all strive to become good citizens of the Girl Gun Nation. More proof that AW1Ed loves us and wants us to be happy.

Does Gun Girl have one of them thar SCAR? You know they are made in South Carolina!

What was Mr. McMillan doing with a tree branch that she felt she needed to stab him with a screwdriver? Is that considered foreplay in South Dakota? Sounds like he was the one that got screwed.
That whole NM thing sounds like a drug deal gone bad, and a whole lot of stabbin’ and shooten happened!

Docduracoat

That is a very pretty and fit woman holding that rifle
I want!

She IS a substantial little thing. Cute though. Looks like an MMA gal or something. With that SCAR(16L?)I might even be a little more ‘a-skairt’ of her than the toolbox woman.

Damn, I have some hard women in my family, but multiple stabs in a lethal zone with a screwdriver? That’s a new one to me. I do wonder about the tree branch as well. My ma used to cut some mean switches, is that what he had in mind? Bad idea whatever it was.
