The news organization WGME13 reports that a Marine was found guilty of fatally shooting another Marine 9 months ago.

BEAUFORT, SC (BDN) — A Marine from Ohio was found guilty in a military court of fatally shooting a Standish man at a South Carolina base more than nine months ago.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Cpl. Spencer Daily, 21, was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and willful discharge of a firearm under circumstances to endanger a life during a Jan. 6 general court martial.

He was sentenced to 69 months of confinement, the Observer reports.

Daily fatally shot Cpl. Tyler Wallingford, 21, of Standish about 9:30 p.m. April 12, 2019, at the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. Both Marines were aircraft ordnance technicians assigned to an F-35B training squadron known as Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501.

Daily reportedly told Naval Criminal Investigative Service investigators that he had pointed the gun at Wallingford while drinking and playing video games and accidentally shot him, according to the Observer.

Stupid kids doing stupid stuff. The time in jail is deserved but the real punishment for me would be living the rest of my life with the fact that I killed my friend.

CplMajor Mike

Hardly kids but definitely stupid.

I would have agreed when I was in my 20s, but this late in the game for me, 21 year olds are kids. At 21 years old, there is a lot of life lessons to learn, lesson one, don’t “play” with guns. At 21, I had 4 years in the military (joined at 17), looking back, I didn’t know $h!t.

Booze and Firearms, NEVER a good mix, now he has to spend the rest of his life knowing that he killed his Buddy.

Slow Joe

Less than 6 years in prison for killing a Marine?

Every weapon is loaded. Never point a weapon at anything that you don’t want to shoot. The bang switch does not pull itself. Keep your booger hook off of it until you are ready to pull it.

Damn shame, all around.

Instilled in me in December 1958 at the USAF Air Police School, TREAT EVERY WEAPON AS IF IT WERE LOADED until you clear it. Then you must see daylight twice, once looking into the bolt with the magazine removed then through the barrel with a piece of white on the chamber side. I practice that to this day and get funny looks at gun shows and firearms stores.

Very sad but very instructive lesson. Again.
Probably a wrongful death suit as well.

AW1Ed

At least three violations of Col. Cooper’s four basic rules of firearms safety.

Idiot.
