SNAFU?

| December 13, 2019

Uniforms are not supposed to be fashion items. So what’s with the Navy’s difficulty in switching to the new woodland pattern cammies? What was the point to moving rank to the middle of the chest? Right away, they got complaints from everyone, including the guys.

https://www.militarytimes.com/news/your-navy/2019/11/27/uncomfortable-gazes-why-some-sailors-are-unhappy-with-the-design-of-the-new-woodland-cammies/

From the article:  Koshoffer’s comment came in response to a question read during the event from an unnamed sailor who said that they were uncomfortable staring at a female sailor’s chest to see her rank.

Seriously, whoever is responsible for running this particular Bright Idea Club needs to be fired and sent home.

Is this nonsense going on because the military has a clothing budget and doesn’t know what to do with it, or how to do it? Maybe the rank insignia should have been moved down to crotch level, just to equalize everything.

This is nuts.  Just want to keep all of you informed as to how your tax dollars are being abused.

I’ve heard nothing but complaints about the rank location on the Air Force side. Not for this reason. They don’t like it because the rank doesn’t stand out at all. So you can’t tell who you’re passing until it’s almost too late to salute.

I guess that could be related to this issue since everyone is staring at each other’s chest from about 10 paces out.

I liked how the USAF in the BDU days had us wear our rank on our sleeves. Didn’t like the tailoring charges with every promotion, but at least you could tell what you’re dealing with at a distance.

Maybe to start they could do the Marine thing and officers wear high polished insignia in garrison? Since that’s a simple, cost effective solution I fully expect it to not even be considered.

5th/77th FA

Mason, dahell you doing trying to interject common sense into simple solutions. That is NOT allowed. Whether or not the squidly swabbies need new uniforms is not the issue. Somewhere, someone in Big Navy Procurement is a brother or son-in-law that needs to make a paycheck.

Issue females a headband with the rank insignia in the middle of the forehead part. That will keep the roving eyes of all the boys focused near the females eyes. /s/ 😆

ps…that squirrel getting fatter and fatter. Maybe we need to feature him on a Thursdays are for cooking segment.

The Stranger

Oh man, I ain’t had squirrel in forever! Stewed, fricasé, or fried…good eatin’!

5th/77th FA

I didn’t get HER in that condition. Check with IDC SARC. Maybe we should use HER as bait to catch a bunch of HIMS, fatten HIMS up and have a mess pot full of squirrel and dumplin’s. Firebase Magnolia is overrun with the little tree rats. Gots 3 big pecan and a right large ancient Black Walnut trees here. Little twerps get most of the nuts before they fall. They piss the dogs off too.

SFC D

The shop that employs me was overrun with the chattering little bastards for most of the last year. No more. We now have a very healthy mama bobcat with two pudgy young’uns. Fair trade. Now if the javelina’s would stop crapping on the sidewalk…

Dennis - not chevy

How did you make the BDU’s last long enough to need tailoring with each promotion?

Mason

I only made it to E-5 and got out. So there wasn’t a lot of time between. Even then, I think I was on my second set by year six of being a weekend warrior now that you mention it.

Drag Racing Maniac

“They don’t like it because the rank doesn’t stand out at all. So you can’t tell who you’re passing until it’s almost too late to salute.”

Kinda reminds me of the ol’ airscrew style name patch days…

Wilted Willy

Ex, How about some pictures or video? I want to see some chest???

SFC D

Willy,

A little “get well soon” present from D’s Cantina:

Roh-Dog

Back to the bicep for enlisted, or at least have a normal collar and back there with branch insignia for the officers.
Mandarin collars are a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.
Buttons too.

aGrimm

Velcro pockets remind me of the old joke: Why did the Scotsman have a Velcro wallet? So it would scream when he opened it. Hope none of these sailors are doing Recon.

I can’t keep track of all the uniform changes. How many sets of apparel does a sailor have now? In my day it was blues, whites, and dungarees. Attached to the Marines, I gained two more – jungle fatigues and tans. My sea bag was a beast with barely any room to sneak a bottle or two.

Go Navy; Davy Jones awaits the Army!

Roh-Dog

The KNIGHTS are going to TORPEDO the MIDDIES!
GO ARMY!

aGrimm

Knights with torpedoes? What are the Knights going to do? Unzip their pants? In this case, the Army possibly could beat Navy because the Middies would be laughing so hard at the teeny pee-pees they couldn’t execute properly.

Roh-Dog

A little w is still a w.
I’ll take it!
Go Army!

aGrimm

Does the little “w” stand for win or weenie? I’m going with the latter. Hence:
“A little w is still a w. I’ll take it!” That’s not what she said.

ninja

Hmmmm.

Female West Point Cadets have teenie pee-pees?

Interesting.

(I know, I know…you probably were speaking of the Army Football Team who will beat the Navy Football Team because they have Gonads…)

😉😎😅😆🤣

Go Army. Beat Navy.

🐎🏈🐐

SFC D

Seems appropriate. Or not. If I post it, it probably ain’t.

The Stranger

Bangalore torpedoes!

ninja

The US Army has been wearing Rank in the Middle for almost 10 years.

The US Army also has been wearing the nametags aligned with the chest for a long, long time on all Uniforms.

Go Army. Beat Navy.

AW1Ed

Hope you and that frustrated Gunner’s Mate
Cannon Cocker Gun Bunny have lots of crow in your slow cooker.

You’re going to need it.
*grin*

ninja

GAME ON!

😉😎😁😆😄😃🤣😂🐎🏈🐐

*Love Harrassing My Navy Buddies*

*grin*

AW1Ed

I don’t see a problem.
busty

ninja

I do.

She is out of uniform, regulation that is, i.e. hair too long, too much makeup, cover not worn properly, etc.etc.

P.S. I’m Gonna Say It:

Female Sailors complaining that others will be looking at their Breasts?

Pleeaazze….Give Me A Break.

I can only imagine what they wear when it comes to Civilan Clothes.

To those Sailors: Get Over It and Grow Up. If you don’t like it, then get out of the Navy and get another job.

Am so tired of of all of this Bull-Hockey. Hey, let them wear what some women in the Middle East wear.

Go Army. Beat Navy.

🐎🏈🐐

Wilted Willy

Amen ninja, I agree. And also a big thank you to Ed for that lovely example!!

AW1Ed

You presume she’s US Navy, ninja. Now about those poor female cadets and their five o’clock shadows…

ninja

AW1Ed,

You mean those Female Naval Cadets?

Gotcha!

Go Army. Beat Navy.

BTW, if it is a Male Sailor complaining, then:

Get Over It Sailor. Grow Up. If you don’t like it, then get out of the Navy and get another job.

Sheesh. Sick and tired of this. Those Sailors need to focus on the mission they are assigned to and stop whining and complaining, because if they are complaining about this, then no telling what else they are complaining about….”I can’t get a Latte on my Ship!” “My Smartphone does not work while I am on a Ship!” My Bunk is TOO hard!”

Go Army. Beat Navy.

SFC D

ninja, did you just assume her gender? 😉

5th/77th FA

I wouldn’t mind getting her “out of uniform.”

ninja

Well, KoB, since she is a cartoon, that shouldn’t be hard to accomplish.

Just use your eraser that is located on the end of your Number 2 Pencil.

Works everytime.

KoB is my Army Buddy, soooooo…:

Go Army. Beat Navy

😉😎😆😄

ninja

SFC D:

Are you speaking of the Pin-Up?

Ok. So if the Pin-Up is a guy, he is out of uniform, regulation wise, i.e. hair out of regulation, cover not worn properly, too much makeup.

If you are addressing the Sailor that complained about Rank in the middle and breasts, then I will share again: I don’t care what Gender that Sailor is. To that Sailor: Grow Up and Get Over It. If you don’t like the uniform, then get out of the Navy and get another job. Focus on your mission. Because if you don’t, you may end up getting your Shipmates hurt or killed in times of combat.

😉😎

SFC D

If that pin-up is a guy, he’s got a hell of a surgeon!

ninja

SFC D:

Well, at least we know that it was not Nancy Pelosi’s surgeon.

😉😎

BlueCord Dad

My Dad served in the PTO during WWII aboard a Light Carrier. I grew up watching Army-Navy and rooting for the Middies. When my son commissioned in the Army Infantry I saw no reason to change allegiance….
GO NAVY….BEAT ARMY🇺🇸

ninja

BlueCord Dad:

I can see it now in your household during the Army-Navy game.

At least you are still proud of your Son based on your Handle.

😊

Go Army. Beat Navy.

🐎🏈🐐

Graybeard

I don’t know how it is different in the [Go] Army [beat navy] but I know my son has been wearing rank in center chest for a long time.

One thing I can think of as a reason the sailor was concerned: in the current political miasma still afflicting our troops, concern about accusations of sexual harassment by a female in uniform when one is trying to discern rank can be a very real worry – and career impacting.

ninja

Graybeard, yep, that is what I said…that the US Army has been wearing Rank in the Middle of their uniform for almost 10 years.

The US Army has also been wearing Nametags over breasts for a long time.

A very long time.

If a Sailor is worried that another Sailor is looking at their Rank in the Middle of their Uniform and that it could be perceived as a possible concern of accusations of sexual harrassment, then we have problems.

Amazing how we have yet to hear any accusations from US Army Soldiers of sexual harrassment based on rank being worn in the middle.

IMHO, this has gone overboard. We need to quit pandering to a few who have those perceptions. Again, if they don’t like it, then LEAVE. Get another job. Get a Life. Grow Up. Get Over It.

SFC D

Rank on the middle of the uniform doesn’t exactly lead to staring at… um… bosoms.

However… a female military member in PT’s, with and M4 cross-slung on her back…due to the strategic position of the sling… may or may not get more than a passing glance.

I admit nothing. Call my lawer.

Martinjmpr

Almost 10 years? Try almost 15. The ACU was adopted in 2005 just as I was retiring.

BTW am I the only one who thinks it’s funny that now that we’ve gone nearly two decades with each service having their own combat uniform, we are slowly going back to everyone wearing the same one (basically the Army OCP?)

And also – am I the only one who’s noticed that the colors of the “new” OCP are pretty much the same as the BDU that was the field uniform for all services for 20+ years? In fact, look at a soldier in OCP uniform from about 20′ away and to me the uniform looks almost indistinguishable from the BDU except for the sleeve Velcro patches.

thebesig

Army ACU/OCP rank is on the chest. We didn’t have problems with that arrangement, men or women.

ninja

AMEN, thebesig. AMEN. Just as I pointed out.

Funny we have yet to hear ANY complaints from ANY US Army Soldier on wearing Rank in the middle.

Sailors don’t like change or placement of the Rank? Well, good for them. They can leave. Get a civilain job. No one is forcing them to serve in the Navy.

If a Sailor keeps thinking that, then that is a sign that they have too much time on their hands instead of focusing on the mission.

I would never want to serve in Combat with those that have that thought process ” They are looking at my breasts! Sexual Harrassment!”.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

During the time I spent in the Navy, dungarees, dungaree jackets and N-1 deck jackets and dungaree caps were worn as work uniforms. There were Seafarer dungarees and wellington boots some wore as well as taylor made dress blue gabardeans. We were also issued tropical white short sleeve shirts which were worn with white trousers that were also worn with white jumpers. one of my neckerchiefs were double rolled for Liberty call and had single rolled ones ones for inspections. These peeps who keep changing the working uniforms must be getting kick backs from the clothing companies.

ninja

One last thought and I am done.

So the Navy may let a few dictate on uniform changes based on those few personal perception of Rank in the Middle and possible accusation of Sexual Harrassment?

Boy, does that Scenario sound familiar, as in “I’ve Seen That Movie, Too”.

A Few dicate what Others have put in place because the Few does not like change. Just as a Few are undermining 63 Million Voters from the 2016 Election, because they do not like the change.

Boo hoo, welcome to the club, snowflakes… er, shipmates.

A Proud Infidel®™

*AAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWW*, so who is the precious little poop stain of a SNOWFLAKE who is “offended” by the change in Uniform? I personally don’t give two hoots of a flying ratshit mudda-fuck because if they don’t like it they can always ETS!

George V

I, personally, think the Russians have infiltrated the Pentagon, in a contractor role, in charge of procurement. That’s one way to explain this nonsense, anyway.
