Funeral for CPL Ysabel A. Ortiz (Korea)

| October 24, 2019

A funeral will be held next week for the following previously missing individual recently accounted for by DPAA.

. . .

This August, DPAA announced that it had accounted for CPL Ysabel A. Ortiz, US Army. PFC Thompson was lost in North Korea on 2 December 1950.

CPL Ortiz will be buried next week – on Monday, 28 October – in Riverside, California. Regrettably, DPAA does not seem to have posted the specific location or time for his funeral services or interment.

If any TAH readers have the precise location and time for CPL Ortiz’s funeral services and/or interment, please post it in comments below. And if any readers are in the area and have the time, here’s an opportunity to give someone lost during the Korean War a proper final send-off.

Rest Easy in your Home Soil Cpl Ortiz. We’re sorry it took so long. We Salute your Service and raise a toast to your Sacrifice. You were not forgotten’

Thanks for the up date Hondo. And Thanks to ninja for the link on the Services. I left some words to Honor this Warrior.

I am no where near the researcher/poster of many of our Brothers and Sisters here. ninja, 2/17 Air Cav, and AnotherPat (RTR) were outstanding in bringing us the “rest of the story.” I hope the latter 2 are doing well, they are sorely missed. I suspect that ninja was either trained by or is the re-incarnate of AnotherPat. We’ll know for sure when The Tide plays for the College National Championship. All of that being said, I did scratch up some info on Cpl Ortiz’s unit. The AAA Troops of this unit had a combination of Quad 40mm and .50 self propelled units. At the time of being overrun by muchly numerically superior forces at the Chosin Res they were possibly in a ground support role, delivering direct fire against the Godless Hordes. All vehicles were lost either to enemy fire or destruction by the crews to prevent capture. These Warriors literally fought til the last bullet and drop of blood. The 31st BCT ceased to exist as a fighting force. These Artillerymen gave a good accounting of themselves.

I think that I have attached a linky that gives a thesis on where Big Army went wrong that caused the loss of so many brave Soldiers. It’s dated 25 years after the fact.
