Pete Buttigieg on El Paso Shooting: America Under Attack from White Nationalist Terrorism

| August 3, 2019

pete buttigieg

Twenty people were killed and over two dozen were injured in a mass shooting at an El Paso shopping center today, according to El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen.

“Lives were taken who should still be with us today,” Gov. Greg Abbott said at a news conference.

In what has become the new normal, before an investigation can even begin, Dem pols are using these horrific events to press their agenda. It must take a certain mindset to use the pain and suffering of others in such a fashion. As if to prove the point, Peter Paul Montgomery Buttigieg, Democrat Presidential hopeful and Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, jumps right in.

By Joshua Caplan

“America is under attack from homegrown, white nationalist terrorism,” Buttigieg said in his opening statement before the AFSCME 2020 Public Service Forum in Las Vegas. “We have to talk and act about two things in this country: first of all, we are the only country in the world with more guns than people. It has not made us safer. We can respect the Second Amendment and not allow it to be a death sentence for thousands of Americans.”

“Number two, white nationalism is evil,” the Sound Bend mayor continued. “It is inspiring people to commit murder and it is being condoned at the highest levels of the American government and it has got to end.”

El Paso law enforcement has yet to confirm the suspected shooter’s motive, rendering Buttigieg’s pronouncement premature.

Police arrested Patrick Crusius, a white male in his early 20s, in connection with the mass shooting, spokesman Sgt. Robert Gomez said. Several media sources confirmed that the suspect lives in Allen, Texas, about 650 miles from El Paso.

To my surprise, ‘Beto’ O’Rourke, who’s Congressional District included El Paso, expressed his sympathy and is putting his campaign on hold, canceling scheduled events in Nevada and California this weekend so he could immediately return to the city. That’s a stand-up move.

Seems I spoke too soon.

“He is a racist, and he stokes racism in this country,” O’Rourke told reporters. “We’ve had a rise in hate crimes every single one of the last three years. During an administration where you’ve had the president call Mexicans rapists and criminals.”

I was written up because I wrote a paper warning about the possibility of a highroller or whale using a suite to conduct a shooting I was told that I was fear mongering or spreading fear we left
In 2014 after I was retired from the army
And moved to Tucson Az, it’s wired that in 2009 I was crazy enough to come up with that idea but there is a lot of stuff that happens in Vegas you never hear about I lost a really good friend there to that incident I probably would have been there if I hadn’t turned out to be a cripple retard that I am now, thanks to the electric currents, but long story short
My wife just won her battle with breast cancer and is doing reconstruction
We now live in Cloudcoft Nm or just south of it by sunspot
Most of her treatment is in El Paso
No hospitals worth a shit here so we spend a lot of time there and a few overnights this is hitting very close to home now I’m getting a little superstitious LMAO….

Why do dems always blame guns and raysism?

Because it is what they are…white, hateful, and violent.

So, you are right to point out that d-rat obsession with racism being a major part of their psychological make up.

It’s called a Gestalt to us lay people with just enough education to piss people off !!!

I hate white supremacists as much as the next guy, but I’m far more concerned about the attacks our country is under from far-left radicals who have taken over the Democratic Party.

From the manifesto of the El Paso Walmart dirt-bag:

“Remember: it is not cowardly to pick low hanging fruit. AKA Don’t attack heavily guarded areas to fulfll your super soldier COD fantasy. Attack low security
targets. Even though you might out gun a security guard or police man, they likely beat you in armor, training and numbers. Do not throw away your life on an unnecessarily dangerous target. If a target seems too hot, live to fight another day.”

They need to rethink all these “gun-free zones”.

The Walmart in my area is most definitely not a gun free zone. A deranged shooter wouldn’t stand a chance. I’m good with that.

The Other Whitey

Buttboy is gonna look awfully stupid when they find the murderous shitlicker’s car is covered in “Bernie 2020” bumper stickers.

Besides, anyone else notice that these incidents have only really taken off since significant restrictions have been placed on 2A rights?

11B-Mailclerk

Your comment didn’t age well.

He -might- have been a “Bern-out”, to yet be discovered, but my assumption is otherwise.

They showed his alleged car in a briefing. I didn’t see Bernie on it. Nothing at all that I noticed. (Small screen, but nothing noted)

I was expecting the “angry about X” sticker collage. Didn’t see anything but a nondescript car. Might have been some left-rear damage “I backed into a post” kinda corner damage. Hard to tell.

Ever notice the folks with dozens of angry decals? Left/right/weird/WTF?

Slow down and give them room. The batshit-crazy is strong in that one.

11B-Mailclerk

Then again the “blame corporations” manifesto bits is not exactly anti to your thought.

My prediction is “batshit crazy” and “something, somewhere, for almost every ghoul”.

The Other Whitey

It does seem that the fucknut was all over the place ideologically. A lot of leftism, some right-wing ideas, racism (fuck him), and being a murderous piece of shit to top it all off. I’ll admit I was a bit premature, and didn’t quite hit it on the head, but I didn’t entirely miss, either. I based it on the trend that most (though not all) of these fucking turds tend to skew left.

I’m going with the just plain cowardly and evil description of this fuck…

One could make the case that Buttplug put the guy up to it. That aspect should be made clear now that he has pimped the innocent victims.
And what about the rest of us that are victims of people hell bent on stirring up this shit?
Yeah, I’m a victim also. A victim of liberal thinking by those who would enslave me.

I hope the FBI investigates to determine whether the perp is a member or proponent of the Incel movement, which poses a potential domestic terrorism threat in our nation.

LC

I guess I don’t see the issue with Buttigieg’s comments. I wish he could’ve waited for the dust to settle and all the details to come out, but this isn’t a one-off incident – he’s echoing the FBI’s own assessment that white nationalism is the lion’s share of domestic/i> terrorism, and domestic terrorism is on par with ‘homegrown violent extremism’ (acts inspired by jihadists, for example):

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/454338-fbis-wray-says-majority-of-domestic-terrorism-arrests-this-year

He isn’t saying, “White people are terrorists!”, he’s saying “White nationalism is a problem”. If you’re white, but not a white nationalist, it doesn’t apply to you. I’d have a problem if he said, “White people are a problem”, but I don’t when he calls out the actual, narrow ideology that’s at issue.

Similarly, if someone points out that Islamic fanaticism is a problem, I have zero issues with that – it is a huge problem. I object when they then turn that into a screed against all Muslims, as that’s not accurate.

And while I’d have liked to let the dust settle on this particular incident before we start with the labels -look at the Gilroy Garlic festival shooter, for which there is still some conflicting information on his ideology- the question I don’t know how to answer is this: how long do we wait after a tragedy before we can start looking at identifying root influences and trying to address them? A day? A week? A month? Because the clock seems to reset pretty fucking fast these days.

LC

I screwed up the tag there – it should’ve ended after ‘domestic’.

And for those not following the news, here’s the ‘resetting of the clock’ news – the mass shooting in Ohio. The shooter was stopped in less than a minute, but there are still nine dead and 26 injured:

https://www.foxnews.com/us/at-least-10-may-be-dead-in-dayton-ohio-gunfire-reports

Ex-PH2

You really missed the point, LC.

Buttigieg butted in before the dust had even settled. There was ZERO reason for him to open his mouth and say anything, but he wanted campaign points going for him, so he jumped in and ran his mouth when he could have kept it shut.

LC

Buttigieg said, and I quote, “America is under attack from homegrown white nationalist terrorism”, per the article above. That’s true, according to the FBI statistics, regardless of the motive of this particular shooter – the dust doesn’t need to ‘settle’ for this statement to be made.

Or are you saying the FBI is wrong and there isn’t an uptick in white nationalism terror, and that’s why he is in the wrong?

11B-Mailclerk

If anyone even hints at dark-skinned shooters being a big problem anywhere, and in Chicago for instance the stats show a strong bias towards higher melanin content in the near-weekly shootings, the immediate cry is “racism”.

Therefore the rules to which -I- get held say B’s statements are racist.

Is mentioning race racist? Or not? No double standard allowed.

The problem we have is -crazies-, not palefaces who like America. (Or non-pales who loath it)

Because “white nationalist” these days is a racial slur applied to anyone pale who ain’t a progressive.

That is BS, and the brown flag has been thrown.

Not buying it. Not accepting it.

Oh, why no press mass fuss over the recurring mass shootings (3+ victims)bin Chicago? Weird. Almost like certain folks dont care. For some reason. What could it be?

Again, crazy violent folks of any stripe need to be institutionalized. Don’t get into their warped delusions. Focus on the violence.

LC

Once again, let’s not combine gang violence and mass shootings – if you want to have a discussion on the former, fine, but the news is all about the latter. I don’t think anybody would bat an eye if you said that a lot of the gang violence in Chicago is black – nationwide, blacks (and hispanics) are over-represented in gangs, then you have the Chicago demographics where blacks are a much higher percentage of the population, and you add in the poverty, not to mention corruption, and … well, it just makes sense. Hell, pencil-necked academics write papers about it, and they’re not called racist – mostly because they’re trying to understand it, and not demean an ethnicity, but I digress. The reason why we mention white nationalism, and not black gang violence is that gang violence is fairly similar across the board. If you’re trying to understand the gang violence problem, you don’t gain anything by making a distinction between black gangs, hispanic gangs, white gangs, asian gangs, etc. Not at the high level, anyway. White nationalism, on the other hand, is a pretty succinct definition of the problem – we don’t have a widespread ‘black nationalist’ problem. Or a ‘hispanic nationalist’ problem. Not on the scale that we have a ‘white nationalist’ problem in people wanting to ‘take back’ the country through violent means. One need only look at some of the Black Lives Matter sorts to see there is definitely racism from blacks as well, but mostly they’re not out shooting people up – and if you don’t believe me, look up the FBI numbers. Since we couldn’t just call it ‘nationalism’, as that already has a meaning and doesn’t explain the race component, ‘white nationalism’ seems to fit. And we group things under an umbrella term so we can understand it, and thus better fight it. Do you also freak out every time someone says, “Islamic fundamentalism”? Do you respond to that by saying, “Hey now, let’s just focus on the violence, not the common ideology shared by a growing problem..”? I highly doubt it. The… Read more »

Buying into the whole “we are in constant danger of mass shootings” is equally bullshit. Eliminate drug and gang related mass shooting events, and divide the remainder by 330000000 people. Mass shootings are rare events. One is too many, but the gun controllers who immediately dance in the blood of the victims are pretty much as repulsive.

LC

I agree. We aren’t under constant threat of mass shootings, or Islamic terrorism, or any of the other scary-sounding things people latch on to that are actually incredibly rare. Far more people die of car accidents every day.

But, and this is the kicker, if there are things we can do to reduce the probabilities further, that’s a good thing. We do it was seat belts in cars, can we also do something in the broader way we deal with guns in our culture? I’m inclined to think so.

11B-Mailclerk
Anonymous

It’s Chiraq, so left/libtards will pretend it doesn’t exist…

Ex-PH2

No, not saying “no uptick” at all. The point is that Buttigieg’s jumping right in to make brownie points about guns and gun violence was more important than the other part of it. And if it hadn’t been “white nationalism” (a self-declared description), it wouldn’t have mattered. He was about the “guns and gun violence”, not the other thing.

LC

So after a large number of innocent people going about their day are murdered, by assholes with guns, we shouldn’t talk about guns? What do you expect him to do, talk about pizza?

And I’ll go back to my original question – after a tragedy, how long do you say we need to wait before we can discuss it? Or is it just guns that are off-limit, since you don’t think they are relevant?

A Proud Infidel®™

DON’T ban guns, BAN LIBERALS! Just look at where strict Gun Laws are already in effect, utopias like Chicago, Baltimore, LA,…

Ex-PH2

Sometimes, LC, you are too blind for words.

Jumping into the spotlight to make political points with your side’s voters is as tacky as you can get, and Buttgagme is a tacky, tacky, self-centered opportunistic jackass looking for a chance in the spotlight. He got one, he took it, and he’s simply proved what a jerk he is.

How hard is that for you to understand?

ArmyATC

Here are a few questions back to you. Why is it that it’s guns and in the vast majority of these cases only guns that are talked about? Are guns the reason for these attacks? Are there no underlying causes? Why aren’t they being discussed?

LC

As I said in another response, I’m all for a broader chat about culture – including movies, games, internet sites, guns, etc. I don’t have any ‘sacred cows’ in this discussion that can’t be touched.

I also point out that I’m very uneasy with mandating changes to these things, being a big fan of freedom and all, but I think some minor adjustments to our cultural environment could help.

11B-Mailclerk

So, one person might misuse abortion, so ban them?

Might sell their vote, so ban that?

Might publish a hateful book so ban that?

Guns are the tools by which we keep Liberty, and provide for self-defense. By individuals. So, no, we should not be banning/whatever guns. There are over one hundred million gun owners. Two loons lose their shit and the rest of us get our rights taken? F no.

The problem is not -guns- the problem is not -liberty- the problem is -evil- and -crazy-, which gun bans -utterly- fail to address

Because crazy/evil people won’t obey the dang laws.

Or, you could just ban murder, maybe?

Restrict the lawful to fight crime! Yeah. That works. Mexico has extraordinarily strict gun laws. Peaceful as sheep right? UK banned almost all guns and their crime sunk to new heights! Oops. Getting -really- bad there. For some reason.

Those shootings happened in gun-restricted areas. And you want -more- restrictions? The one loon even bragged of seeking soft targets, and you want -softer- targets?

That sounds crazier than the loons who were shooters.

And if you haven’t noticed, these folks plan this stuff sometimes. Like careful research. Those ginormous mags often jam. So do overheated civy guns. So redirect those nuts to the online cornucopia of bomb-making info, and freaking nerve gas recipes.

Don’t go looking for those things, unless you want some very humorless scrutiny from feds. But it is there.

You can shoot back at a dork with a rifle. The loon with a chest-wrap of homemade boomstuff, nails, and a dash of hate? You’ll just set it off and shred yourself (and everyone else).

Crazies are the problem. Not Liberty. Crazies are the problem. Keep focusing on that.

LC

Where have I ever called for banning guns? I shoot. I own guns.

See my reply to HMCS(FMF).

11B-Mailclerk

You stated that we need to talk about guns. Your context was clearly “less”.

Always the Left wants to tall about less liberty when it comes to guns

Then it morphs to ” gun culture” which contextually becomes “those bad things causing the problem”.

It’s no the guns, the games, the movies, etc. It is not the lack of wise government scolds.

It is devaluing life, devaluing civilized behavior, devaluing men that brought us here.

Self control has always been a male virtue. American civilized behavior has always been a cultural norm.

But the ” tear it down and replace it with Marx/whatever” crowd wants it -gone-

And shit like the last few days is the result. And I will no longer politely ignore that origin.

All of this mashed is the entirely predictable result of so called “progressivism”. Those feral monsters were the predictable outcome.

If the masculine virtues of stoicism and self-control are “toxic”, what the heck did anyone expect to replace it?

Yeah. Oops.

There was a gun and ammo in darn near every other vehicle at my high school. Every boy had a knife, from grade school usually. Self control and other masculine behavior was nurtured and thus boys became men who had proper outlets for anger and enough restraint do do no major harm

In 8 years at that district, zero shootings. Zero stabbings, and a handful of fistfight that required off-site medical attention.

But it was the gun culture that made the monsters!

Bullshit.

LC

I’m staunchly against taking away people’s right to own weapons; the almost imperceptible number of people who use them illegally shouldn’t outweigh the countless people who are law-abiding gun owners. And, as seen on this site, plenty of times those people help stop crimes.

At the same time, I can see how the prevalence of guns in our culture makes attacks like this more likely. It’s a psychological thing. People pick up a gun and feel more powerful. And then look at the profile of most of these shooters – young people, many socially ostracized, and generally without a lot of power. The idea that they can get a gun and suddenly they have the power enables them to do things they otherwise couldn’t. And typically on a scale greater than they could with a car, a knife, etc. Bombs are a whole other can of worms.

The term applied to these sorts of events is typically ‘stochastic terrorism’ – basically, there’s a number of factors that all contribute a minuscule amount to the chance of someone committing heinous acts like this. And when you apply that small probability over a large population, you get a few that act out. Guns are one of those very small factors.

Again, just as it’d be stupid to say we can’t let people drive because some assholes cause accidents, we shouldn’t say people can’t have guns because of incidents like this, especially since far more die in accidents than shootings. We can, however, work on addressing things like the psychology of guns in our culture (for example) without intruding on people’s rights.

Ex-PH2

Really? Young people, socially ostracized? Really? You think that’s what it is?

Then explain the uptick in driveby gang shootings in Chicago, the uptick in gangs of teens invading a popular area like North Michigan Avenue in Chicago where all the expensive shops are and knocking people down and robbing them. Explain carjackings and holdups at gunpoint in Lincoln Park, which never used to happen.

That is NOT people who are socially isolated.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

I subscribe to IPN (incident paging network) and the amount of shootings in Chicago and Baltimore that I receive on my cell phone in text are huge. I would like to transfer these texts to my email and then copy and paste them into the TAH comment window but alas, I don’t think that there is a way and then again as I’ve mentioned in the past, I’m not PC savvy on the tech side but great on the mechanical side. I’m so bad with the tech side of PC’s that I pay an extra fifteen bucks a month for AT&T tech support to keep me out of trouble with this Dell I’m using.

Ex-PH2

Jeff, what you tell me is the very reason I have stuck faithfully with my flip phone technology. I believe that other people who are tired of being pestered to death by tablet phone twaddle are moving back to flip phones.

LC

Why are you conflating gang violence with mass shootings? These are two very different things – a point people here typically champion to show the relatively low number of deaths from the latter.

And I’d have to check the full list of mass shootings, but yes, typically they’re young, isolated sorts – radicalized on the internet is also common. The last big three that I can think of had a 24-year old, a 21-year old and a 19-year old.

Conflating gang violence with mass shootings is like saying deaths due to surgical errors should be considered victims of knife violence.

Ex-PH2

The use of the word “gang” includes gangs going against each other, LC, as well as finding soft targets, per CPD’s description, such as playgrounds, parks and schools.

Gang violence doesn’t have to include guns to be violent.

LC

First, I’d love to see some references to gangs going against soft targets – that seems counterproductive in all but the rarest of cases. Gangs recruit at places like schools and playgrounds, sure, but they typically don’t target innocent people.

Second, we were talking about mass shootings, and you started going, “But what about the gangs?”. You’re conflating two things that are very different beasts.

11B-Mailclerk

Gang shootings routinely consist of firing into crowds of rival affiliated bystanders that may (or may not) be near rivals.

3+ is a mass shooting. The “reason” is irrelevant. You want to discount these? Why? The aggregate bodycount far exceeds the Dayton and el Paso shootings combined.

Nope. Those victims matter just as much as anyone else. Their lives matter as much. You now appear to have a bias. Please explain.

LC

Gang shootings are a different thing.

You can group them together, just as some idiot over at Code Pink can group US military actions where 3+ people were shot as a ‘mass shooting’.

It just makes you an idiot who can’t distinguish between things with very different root causes.

11B-Mailclerk

More mass shootings of Innocents

Not gonna let you dismiss this as other than murder of Innocents by evil/crazy/feral

https://www.foxnews.com/us/7-people-shot-chicago-park-1-killed-3-wounded

Ex-PH2

“They typically don’t target innocent people”.

Riiiight!. Driveby shootings in Englewood are kicking up, shooting at houses and at people sitting in their own front yards, NOT PEOPLE IN GANGS. The gangs on the South Side want their turf back. They do that by shooting up the neighborhoods.

It’s the second shooting in less than three hours where four people were wounded by gunfire in a single incident in the South Side neighborhood.

July 7 was a Sunday. Go ahead, live in denial. Gangbangers drive past parks where kids are riding bikes and playing softball and fire away.

The murder of Hadiya Pendleton occurred on January 29, 2013. Pendleton, a 15-year-old Black girl from Chicago, Illinois, was shot in the back and killed while standing with friends inside Harsh Park in Kenwood, Chicago after taking her final exams. A student at King College Prep High School, she was killed only one week after performing at events for President Barack Obama’s second inauguration.
The late Ms. Pendleton and her friends had just finished playing volleyball. None of them were gangbangers.

That must be a real nice, cozy world you live in, LC, one where nothing is ever wrong. Everything is wonderful. All the bad people live some place else.

LC

None of them were gangbangers.

And yet:

“Michael Ward has confessed and indicated that Hadiya was not the intended target,” said Chicago police superintendent Gerry McCarthy at a press conference. “In fact, the offenders had it all wrong. They thought the group they shot into included members of a rival gang.” The suspects were apprehended and brought in for questioning on Saturday, McCarthy said.

The intent was still gang-on-gang violence. Gangs don’t typically shoot up random people because it’s bad for business – can’t exactly hold turf when the people there want you dead. Want a fun read? Go check out, “Gang Leader for a Day” – maybe you’ll learn something.

Ex-PH2

Doesn’t occur to you that they lied, does it?

Hadiyah Pendleton’s face was all over the news and the papers BEFORE she was targeted, because she had been invited to the WH.

Are you really naive enough to think that she was NOT recognized by those two lying sacks of crap????

Ex-PH2

In case you can’t figure that out, Hadiyah Pendleton and her friends were ALL GIRLS.

How does that make any of them rival gang members of those to GUYS??? HOW????

11B-Mailclerk

He appears to not want to see them as victims.

It’s just hold rats shooting each other.

No. It is -not-. -lots- of Innocents getting zapped. Those gangs do terrorism. It just local and about direct control, not some big political cause.

MS-13 even spells it out in their motto.

Some folks don’t care because they can’t see themselves as the victims. They don’t live “in bad neighborhoods”. They don’t hang around ” bad people”.

But let someone more familiar-looking get popped, or let it happen where they might frequent, and it’s a national scandal.

I -loathe- that crapthink. It’s vile.

LC

So despite the confession, the corroborating witness, the conclusion of the police department, and basically any and all other evidence,… you want to conclude that a young girl was targeted because, what, she performed at President Obama’s inauguration?

You think two gangbangers were of the 6.5% of people who watched it, let alone remembered the girl, and then decided we’re going to shoot her, knowing they’d be utterly fucked?

I marvel at your tenuous grasp on reality, Ex-PH2. Also, here’s a newsflash – women are in gangs, too.

Ex-PH2

How many times do I have to repeat this: they lied. Those girls had nothing to do with gangs.

They were targeted by these creatures, who lied about all of it but were convicted anyway.

In case you missed it, the term “rival gang” was used, and the shooter was a black male shooting black girls. So where does this “rival gang” stuff come from?

LC

Right. These master criminals, each with a notable history of crime showing a not-so-brilliant way of thinking, somehow pulled a fast one over the detectives and the judge, all for a .. what? Lesser sentence? The one who has been sentenced already has 84 years in jail. But hey, you surely know better after all your interviews with the suspects, research of the crime scene, and deep knowledge of gang operations.

And here’s another newsflash for you – there are in fact rival gangs within one ethnic group. Again, go read a book or something.

At this point, I just have to believe you’re doubling down because you refuse to admit you’re wrong. It can’t be that you’re truly this clueless.

HMCS(FMF) ret

At the same time, I can see how the prevalence of guns in our culture makes attacks like this more likely. It’s a psychological thing. People pick up a gun and feel more powerful. And then look at the profile of most of these shooters – young people, many socially ostracized, and generally without a lot of power. The idea that they can get a gun and suddenly they have the power enables them to do things they otherwise couldn’t.

Hollywood has glorified this for years – the person that is an social outcast, no power all of a sudden get it by having a gun and shooting up a place (how many times have we seen it in the movies). How many movies/TV shows/mini-series have been done that show someone “on the edge” getting help? Very few, if any.

Here’s a clip from “Equalizer 2” – why aren’t there more messages like this being generated from Hollywood/MSM?

“Man ain’t spelled GUN”

LC

I fully agree, and wish there were more movies addressing it – that doesn’t happen because the link between violent behavior and watching a movie is so small. You or I can watch one, and we’re not motivated to shoot innocent people up. Hell, millions of people can watch them and not feel that. But a few do.

It’s the same with video games – gamers will say, “Ha! I didn’t murder anyone, so the link between games and violence is obviously fake!”, and in a sense they’re correct, since it’s only a very few who take a sadistic glee in shooting someone in a game and convert that to a real-life desire.

And, sadly, the same is true for guns – like games and movies, most can play or watch without it fueling some inner psychosis. But the law of large numbers means that a few are inspired to violence.

Personally, I’m torn on what should be done because I hate the idea of changing things just because of the rare few who seize upon their darker instincts. At the same time, we could encourage more responsibility in our media about these sorts of things.

As they say, we are what we eat – and we eat this shit up, and it has an effect. A healthier ‘culture’ diet could probably help.

HMCS(FMF) ret

Amen on the healthier culture, LC.

Fyrfighter

Guns have been around forever, and we didn’t have these kind of incidents until the “cultural revolution” in the 60’s. My father talks about every truck in his high school having a gun in the rack, but no school shootings..
The truth which no true liberals will admit is that they have been pushing a devaluation of human life (abortion, euthanasia, etc)since at least the 60’s, and now they act shocked when these scum shooters don’t value human life… this is either total cognitive dissonance, pure delusion, or outright lies to cover their true agenda.
You are 100% correct that it is the culture that has spawned these shooters, but even though guns are part of our culture, that part has not changed since these shootings became more common, so the focus of any discussion should be on aspects of the culture which HAVE changed before, or during this uptick.

MIKE GUENTHER

Why don’t we put some of the blame on the kid’s parents. Surely they should have seen some signs of his dysfunction and tried to get him some help.

And blaming “White Nationalism” is a non starter. Even stupid people like David Duke, etal. know.

As has been pointed out in the past, these kids are loners who don’t typically fit in and take out their frustrations on society at large.

ArmyATC

There have always been socially awkward and ostracized young people without a lot of power in our society and who have been bullied almost mercilessly. But in years past those young people didn’t take up guns and slaughter people. So why now? What has changed in our society where one thinks it’s perfectly acceptable to slaughter other people? Please don’t say it’s the prevalence of guns and gun culture.

Case in point, and it’s a point I made in another post, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. The shooter was one of those socially ostracized loners who decided to shoot up his former school. The immediate cry was for more gun control. Then it was discovered that many of those “heroes” who were calling for more gun control were among those who mercilessly bullied the shooter. But no one wanted to talk about that. They wanted to focus on guns and not the underlying causes of the shooting. How can we expect anything to change when an agenda is being pushed instead of talking about the causes of such violence?

Mason

It’s the media. These people feel alone and alienated. They want to “be somebody” because everybody now wants to be famous. They see the endless news stories, documentaries, and books about mass shooters. “Who was he?” “What were his motives?” “Why did he do it?”

So they want to be known. Any attention is better than no attention, so they shoot something up. Now they’re writing “manifestos” and screeds before they do it. Gives the media more to feed on. You’ll see more mass shooters doing that now!

If the media gave them no focus, no attention, then this would dry up. The media just gives passing mention to the victims, but it’s usually just the number killed. So for these mass shooters now, if you want to be REALLY remembered, then you’ve got to get the top score.

LC

I don’t know the exact breakdown, but I think the obvious answer has to be culture and/or mental health. Guns are a part of that culture, but as I said above, I also lump the internet, movies, games, and other countless shit into that.

The difference here seems to be that I don’t want to exclude any of those topics, and you want to exclude one in particular from any consideration. I get it, I do – when we’re all part of a culture and we aren’t at risk of going postal, the notion seems ludicrous at first. But, as I said above, what we’re exposed to affects us – guns play a role, even if a small one. That’s worth having a conversation about. So are all the other factors, like parenting, internet sites, movies, etc.

Anonymous

Most progressives call for banning AR-15s after a stabbing, too.

Commissar

We knew it was white Nationalist Terrorism because the shooter posted a manifesto before the attack in which he expresses his hatred for the “Hispanic invasion”.

That manifesto was found within an hour of his name being made public. And his name was released within two hours of his arrest.

So by the time Buttigieg made his statement we had known the shooter was white nationalist for hours.

Why do some of you feel so triggered when someone blames a horrific event on a white nationalist?

It seems weird. Do you see members of the white nationalist movement as political allies? Do you feel sympathetic to their cause?

Of all the opinions to express in the days after the shooting the one that seems most immediately salient to you is that it was unfair to blame the white nationalist movement for this shooting.

Why the concern for white nationalists being treated unfairly? Especially given the clearly expressed white nationalist views of the shooter.

Commissar

Just to be clear; I am not accusing you of being a white nationalist. I know you are not, AW1ED.

That is why I am confused by your response to this news covering and political conversation about this shooting. If you were a white nationalist I would not be confused about the fact that your were concerned people were treating white nationalists unfairly by rushing to judgement.

Ex-PH2

I keep wanting to know who is “WE”???

Explain why it was necessary for an opportunistic political wannabe Buttigieg to start with dancing on the bodies of these dead people, Lars.

Explain that. You could spend some time absorbing what people say instead of jumping to another AND incorrect conclusion, as you always do.

Commissar

Calling out white nationalist terrorism after a white nationalist terrorist murdered people is no more dancing on the bodies of the dead than calling out Islamic terrorism after a Islamic terrorist murdered people.

White nationalist terrorism has a long history in the US, is on the rise, and has killed more people than any other terrorist ideology.

Yet you DEFEND it by deflecting when someone tries to call it out.

Knock off the bullshit.

If anyone is acting like a political opportunist it is assholes like you that use this as an opportunity to attack politicians you don’t support because you want to feign outrage for calling out white national terrorism when it happens.

If anything you should be contributed your voice in condemning white nationalist terrorism.

Why are you yelling at the opponents of white nationalist terrorism?

Check you damn allegiances.

You are anti-anti-White nationalism and anti-anti-fascism.

This “terrorist” has already stated his support of leftists, Lars, you dimwit.

Drudge Report site has El Paso shooter’s manifesto for now. First line: “In general, I support the Christchurch shooter and his manifesto.”

The New Zealand shooter was a leftist nutjob deliberately trying to entice gun-banning as something his gutless countrymen deserved.

Do you wanna go over that white terrorist thing again, Lars, you gormless idiot?

Ex-PH2

“Calling out white nationalist terrorism after a white nationalist terrorist murdered people is no more dancing on the bodies of the dead than calling out Islamic terrorism after a Islamic terrorist murdered people.” – Thus Commissar spoketh.

Buttgasbag jumped right on this the minute it happened, going after the ‘GUN VIOLENCE’ ahead of anything else.

Here’s a quote from him: We have to talk and act about two things in this country: first of all, we are the only country in the world with more guns than people.

Try READING FOR COMPREHENSION, Dodo. He only included white nationalism because the shooter was yelling about it. It’s the guns that count with this jerkoff, and you are STILL, always have been, and always SHALL be, a complete MORON.

White Nationalist is a made up moniker of recent birth. I am white. I believe in the sovereignty of nations. Mine in particular.
My Nation. My nation first. Before all others.
Race has nothing to do with it.
I am not sorry if my being white offends anyone. I am not sorry if my love of national sovereignty offends anyone.

Now tell me where I went wrong.

Commissar

Nationalism and patriotism are not the same thing.

Nationalism is a bullshit ideology designed the soft minded tools of the state.

All monikers are made up.

And white nationalism is not a recent moniker. It is a half a century old. Which is older than “Islamic Extremism” as a term.

It was also used as a term to soften the accusatory tone of the term “white supremacist”.

So it is the more “polite” way to call out a racist asshole.

Ex-PH2

Oh, here we go. Is that why you consistently date women of foreign origin? So that NO ONE CAN CALL YOU A RACIST?

It’s called reverse racism. Yeah, there is such a thing.

26Limabeans

“It is a half a century old”

Bullshit

“It was also used as a term to soften the accusatory tone of the term “white supremacist”.”

Exactly! And it will devolve into plain old “White Terrorist” as designed to “soften’ the message that white people are the problem.

Race baiters are the problem. They twist words into weapons and “White Nationalist” is the latest greatest one.

I was an adult fifty years ago. You?

Hondo

Half a century old? That means the term was in use in 1969 or earlier.

I’ll raise the BS flag on the term being in common use then. I’m quite old enough to remember 1969 – and I don’t remember hearing that term at all in the late 1960s/early 1970s. It certainly wasn’t widely used.

Prove that claim, Commissar. Cite an authoritative source showing widespread use of the term in the late 1960s – if you can. That’s showing the term to be in widespread use – not used in some one-off, obscure academic paper/journal no one ever heard about or in some of the KKK’s racist bullsh!t propaganda from that era.

Go ahead, prove me wrong if you can. But I’ll not bother holding my breath.

Ex-PH2

Frankly, Hondo, it never came up in the news until recently – like THIS YEAR, which is a campaign year for the dumbocraps.

Anything to stir their pot, right?

LC

I’m shocked – something you’re at least partly right about. Per Google trends, ‘white nationalism’ spiked in .. November 2016. (And a previous spike in March, 2006, with data only going back to 2004.)

https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&geo=US&q=%22white%20nationalism%22

On a whim, I also looked up ‘socialism’ – it spiked in October 2008, right before President Obama’s election:
https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&geo=US&q=socialism

Anything to stir the pot, indeed.

Ex-PH2

The reference is to the term “white nationalism”, LC.

When was that chart put together????? Looks kind of recent to me.

You’re behind the times: Socialism is again spiking NOW. with all the ecohippies and GNDers in politics pushing it as THE solution to everything: destroy healthy economies and put everyone back into the gulags.

LC

If you look at the chart, it has the dates – 2004 through present. Yes, the chart was made now (it makes it every time you load that page), but the data goes back to 2004.

OWB

“White nationalist terrorism.” OK, that solves everything. Yep, another label – that’s just like fixing something.

Now, can we get down to facts? Leave the rhetoric somewhere else? Probably not, but could we try for once, even maybe a day or two??

I don’t frankly give a flip what color, creed, national origin, or any other factor a killer uses as an excuse to kill people. The killer is the problem, not the weapon used. Not the demographic of the place the killing occurs. Not their age, either. The choice to be a killer is the killer’s alone. Continuing to blame and/or punish others for the bad choices made by criminals is just insane.

I don’t know what a white nationalist is and might not recognize one if passing one on the street. I certainly don’t know anyone I could imagine to be one, but it is entirely possible, of course since I don’t quite know what one is. Is it someone who believes that only white people should live somewhere? I have never lived in that kind of place, so really can’t imagine how that would be.

Meanwhile, I heard someone say (not sure if it was a TV ad or what) something really ugly about Trump supporters wanting to return the US to an all white country. Seriously? How do you return to something we never were?

“Men without chests”, as a great man once said. Fatherlessness is the root of a great many problems in our society, cheered on by leftists and feminists because they either despise the family or they dream of fish bicycles (or whatever). It’s verboten to point this out on the left, because that might lead to a discussion on personal responsibility, as opposed to victimhood, and that would never do. Because you are facing something you clearly cannot contemplate or conceive: you get to live under the rules you demand for others. Choose wisely. Live and let live.

Think what saying no to that last bit means. Think hard.

Cmon folks. Give peace a chance, eh?

Cloudflare dropping 8chan:

8chan is among the more than 19 million Internet properties that use Cloudflare’s service. We just sent notice that we are terminating 8chan as a customer effective at midnight tonight Pacific Time. The rationale is simple: they have proven themselves to be lawless and that lawlessness has caused multiple tragic deaths. Even if 8chan may not have violated the letter of the law in refusing to moderate their hate-filled community, they have created an environment that revels in violating its spirit.

I read their reasons for dropping 8Chan, which they have a right to do.

Turning their heads and business away from what they term ‘Hate speech’ will not end it. The “haters” simply go elsewhere. They admit to that. They don’t want to be sued. I get that, because it’s not fun.

However, by refusing to serve 8Chan as a venue, they are heading toward the denial line that says “I will stick my fingers in my ears and close my eyes until it is over.” That is the worst thing they can do.

I tend to think the bitch-box forums serve a useful pressure-relief function.

Silence them and then what?

You can’t see the trends, to counter. The hotheads have no outlet left, but physical. You can’t identify the real loons who need intervention.

Someone wants it that way, because they think they can control and win that resultant fight. That thinking led to Fort Sumter. (Or Pearl Harbor, if you prefer).

Stupid is gonna stupid. Stupid hurts.

Sadly, I fear you are correct.
