And In Today’s News, China….

China’s ambassador is cozying up to the Taliban. Not that it’s some big surprise.

From the article:  During a meeting with Taliban’s co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, who heads the group’s political committee, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi described the Taliban as an important military and political force in Afghanistan, and said he expected the Taliban to play an important role in the country’s “peace, reconciliation and reconstruction process,” according to China’s Foreign Ministry.

Following the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, the Taliban has rapidly expanded its presence — and now controls large swathes of country. The speed at which Afghan security forces have lost control to the Taliban has shocked many, and led to concerns the capital Kabul could be next to fall. All foreign forces are expected to leave Afghanistan by August 31.

Wednesday’s meeting, which was also attended by the heads of the Taliban’s religious and publicity committees, is the latest move by the Chinese government to strengthen its relationship with the Islamist group. – article

How very clever of Xi JinPing to send in someone who can convince the head of the Taliban that it’s all about being good neighbors, when in fact, what China wants is Afghanistan’s mineral wealth. All those rare earths measured some time back by the USGS (about 20 years ago) are what go into your laptop, phone, pocket computer, household burglar alert, vehicle, and other such junk. It’s quite clever of Xi Jinping to negotiate with a poisonous snake like the Taliban. He’s also hinted at expanding the relationship with Pakistan through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (part of the Belt and Road process) into Afghanistan. Won’t be long before the heavy machinery – those gigantic mining machines, for instance – are brought in to flatten the landscape. I give it 6 months, tops, before China starts on its real mission.

With Xi Jinping’s track-record of ‘treatment’ of his Muslim population(Uighurs), ought to be a rather interesting ride for everyone involved. However, think China’s going to find out the hard way as to why Afghanistan is historically referred to as ‘The Grave of Empires’. Best of Irish luck on that one, Uncle Xi!!

Hope you’re right Hatchet, but I don’t hold out a lot of hope that will happen. In a perfect world the Taliban and the Chinese Communist Bastards would kill one another. A’stan has a population of not quite 40 million. China has 1.3+ BILLION. And China would not care one bit how many they had to kill on both sides to accomplish their goal.

Find me someone that is surprised about any of this. I’ll wait.

I weep for the lost lives of Americans and the wasted treasure that we have pissed away in that sh^thole.

Ditto KoB. I lost a lot friends there too. Isn’t a day goes by that I don’t think about and dearly miss my neighbour Ainsworth(Dyer). If the Chinese actually pursue this,I hope that Afghanistan costs them exponentially more in manpower and material than any previous country.

Enjoy Afghanistan, Chicoms.

Qui cum canibus concumbunt cum pulicibus surgent.

Good luck with that, Xi. Taliban cooperation is expensive and has a short half-life.

Yup. Fleabags, one and all… May the Chinese enjoy some lengthy and very interesting times in Afghanistan.

Been a very long time since I’ve read/heard that one – somewhere in the Great Beyond, my Grandad has a very big ear-to-ear grin.

Cheers!

The CCP will try to buddy-buy that Tar Baby. Sooner or later, they will get annoyed, thence to a slap.

This is going to go -so- badly. Not enough popcorn in all the stores…
