Not a dad. Just glad nobody looking for me…
Happy Fathers Day to all you dickweeds that are though.

Carlton

Happy Fathers’ Day fellow dads.

A retrospect on this Father’s Day causes me to say that I’m profoundly grateful to have had the father that I did. Miss you, Dad. Thank you.

The Other Whitey

My oldest daughter drew, colored and stapled a “Daddy book” for me. Tears and hugs ensued.

My son and middle daughter told me I’m “the best Daddy ever.” I had to tell them that I’m really not, but I’ll always try to be. More tears and hugs ensued.

I recently reminded my Dad how much I look up to him. To my surprise, he seemed surprised, as if he expected to “outgrow” that or something. So I had to tell him “Why the hell would you think that? You’re my DAD! Of course I’ll always look up to you!”

I was lucky enough to have a great father. My Grandpa was no slouch either. My Uncles are solid men, too. Following their example, I try to be as good as I can for my kids, praying every day for God to grant me the strength, wisdom, and courage to do so.

Happy Father’s Day

Amen and Happy Father’s Day TOW!

I’m echoing that sentiment 100%. It’s true for me and thank you for writing that.

As others posted, I was that lucky, TOW. He’s been gone 45 years and I still talk to him. And still miss him every day.

Never knew a Grandpa, but have tried to do my best by the six grandkids with whom I’m blessed. Never knew my father had earned a Bronze Star till after he died. Still miss him and occasionally apologize to him for what a mess I was when he could have enjoyed me more, but tried to make it up to him in later years. God willing, may see him again.. and will consider that Heaven.

Green Thumb

My father passed away last June and the 21st (tomorrow) would have been his birthday as well.

As I became older, I did not have a great or strong relationship with him. The war (Vietnam), I know, created many problems for him. It also created a lot of other internal and external relationship and other problems as well. And those problems finally caught up.

That aside, he was drafted in 1969 and served a tour with C co 1/8 4ID as an 11B in Vietnam. He received a PH and a CIB. And for that, there is respect.

11A (11V) son did too in Iraq. Wonder if I am a fool or a chip off the old block? I don’t know. Have some of the same problems but maybe in this day and age I approach them differently. Or maybe not. Who knows?

Anyway, Happy Father’s Day to those here in TAH.

Enjoy the day.

Happy Father’s Day to all you who are fathers.

In conversation with a long-time friend at church this morning he mentioned that it is a pretty good feeling to realize your kids are the kind of people you enjoy being around. Not just because they are your kids, but because of the people they are.

Pretty good indication that he is a successful father (and he is).

Miss my Dad (a member of the Greatest Generation) but I know we’ll meet at Jesus’ feet. I’m just thankful to have had a good Godly example in him.

58 years have passed since we lost our Papa. Still hurts.

I like to think that I have become the Father and the Man that he wanted me to become…and that he was.

One thing I have learned over these years. Any biological male can become as Father, but it takes a special man, and work, to be a Dad. Some of them never make it.

Happy Dads Day to all of My Brothers.

Sparks

Today is also the birthday of Audie Murphy. I just listened to an old song he co-wrote titled, “Shutters and Boards”. He wrote poems and co-wrote many songs in the early ’60s.

Happy Father’s Day.

Happy Fathers Day to all of you Fathers.

My Dad passed in 1990 and I still miss him dearly.

He stood at five foot three inches (he seemed like a giant to me when I was growing up), WWII combat Mortar man, church going/god fearing, 1st generation German and a hellufa husband and Dad.

More than a few times he “introduced” me to his G.I. web belt (which I richly deserved) but gave praise when you earned it. His praise wasn’t tossed around like candy, but when he gave it to you, you know you had truly earned it.

He’s been gone awhile now, but funny thing is, this 72 year old son of his still feels his presence & hears his advice.

He has never stopped being my Dad.

Happy Fathers Day to all the dads on TAH!

Fathers Day on the heel’s of Juneteenth. Doesn’t get any better.

Claw

“Doesn’t get any better.” Well, we Fathers’/Dads need to enjoy our day while we can, cause starting next year a pattern will start where Father’s Day and Juneteenth will fall on the same Sunday in:

2022, 2033, 2039, 2044, 2050, 2061, 2067, etc, etc.

It’s that old repeating calendar thing./s

I miss my Dad. He wasn’t perfect, but he told me more than once that he was proud of me and my sister.

What else could you ask for?

Ditto, here.

I want to wish my fellow Dickweeds a Happy Father’s Day if they so desire to claim the spawn of their affairs of the heart.
I am so lucky to have the 3 beautiful daughters I have. Two of those young ladies were surprises to myself and the other part of the relationship and serve as living proof that,
#1: I am prolife and both of those surprises are living proof of that attitude.
#2: there is no such thing as an accident when it comes to a kid. No matter the circumstances of the initial seedlaying, it is impossible to claim a child is an accident because it is impossible to “accidentally” take off your clothes.
No matter what your gender is, isn’t or what you want it to be, there is only one way to have a child and somebody has to get at least semi-naked to plant that seed into the fertile loins of said recipient of that “gift” and the only two genders that can do that are the only two genders there actually are.
You can change the plumbing, but you can’t change the initial structure of the being that we refer to as the Mother or the Father in this area of the Universe we call The Milky Way Galaxy.

Two Genders, only….
There is no proclamation that will negate that simple fact of life.

PERIOD !!!!!

In spite of all the crap that I went through regarding my family, both Mother and Father, they did have their good moments and it is those moments that I choose to remember them with.
And Theodore Fay a founding member of the Iowa City Municipal Fire Department in the 1920’s, whom I was lucky enough to have as a Grandfather, I take my hat off to you and give you a huge hug, you were there for me, when it seemed that nobody else was, and I remember it fondly.
Thanks Gramps !!!
