Former CHP Officers Charged With Accepting Bribes to Falsify Grey Market Supercar Records

Grey market cars are controversial in and outside the car community. In a nutshell, they’re vehicles imported to the United States that may or may not meet emissions requirements, or perhaps they haven’t been crash tested in accordance with American regulations. Some people import these cars anyway and in a few cases, like the situation now alleged by the California Department of Justice, bribery is involved in falsifying documents to make them street legal.

Two former California Highway Patrol officers are alleged to have received $35,000 worth of bribes from two separate individuals between 2016 and 2017 to do just that. The charges consist of one count of conspiracy and three counts of bribery for each former officer. The case is still ongoing, but some of the cars involved are high-dollar to say the least. As the California Attorney General’s press office told The Drive, one is a 2003 Ferrari Enzo while another is a 2014 Koenigsegg Agera, which have combined MSRPs totaling millions of dollars.

Details of the case are still thin; however, the names of those implicated in allegedly bribing the officers were included. Anai Servin and Daniel Kang allegedly gave $15,000 and $20,000 respectively to the two officers, Jessie Anthony Carrillo and James Yao Kuo, over the course of several dates between 2016 and 2017. In turn, the CHP officers supposedly conspired to falsify records intended for the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles, making them appear completely legal.

Instagram photos at gun range led to prison for two in NC identity-theft ring, feds say

Gonna need Claw for a Whiz Wheel assessment on these two.

Federal investigators said they traced an identity-theft ring in Charlotte to several Instagram posts showing individuals convicted of felonies posing with guns at local shooting ranges.

Now two of them are going to prison.

Twyjuan Demetric Jenkins, 29, was sentenced Wednesday to 2 1/2 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to aggravated identity-theft charges last year. His co-conspirator, 23-year-old Andrell Nachef Walker, was sentenced May 19 to more than three years on charges of felony possession of a firearm. They were also ordered to jointly pay $75,150 in restitution.

Charges against a third person, Tyquis Syjuan Jenkins, are still pending, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina.

Defense attorneys appointed to represent Twyjuan Jenkins and Walker did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment Thursday.

Deputies awake to surprise guest in Wisconsin. ‘Found the one Airbnb…loaded with cops’

A drunk man in Wisconsin got quite a surprise when he reportedly woke up in an Airbnb full of sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies with the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office in Montana rented a house in Milwaukee while they were in town for police training, KULR reported.

About 2:30 a.m., one of the deputies heard some crashing upstairs but thought it was one of this colleagues, he said in a video posted to TikTok.

The next morning, the group found one of the doors to the property open and started scouring the house.

Eventually they found a “drunk dude” had broken in during the night and was asleep in a bed, they said in the video.

“This silly guy found the one Airbnb in all of downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin, loaded with cops,” one deputy said. “He woke up in handcuffs.”

The deputy said the group called police. Officers arrived and took the man away, and then the group headed to training.

“He had no idea where he was. He had no idea where he thought he was, and he didn’t know where he came from,” a deputy told WISN.

Police told the outlet the man wasn’t cited or charged — he was drunk and went into the wrong house.

Former San Francisco official arrested in attempted robbery at food bank

San Francisco’s former public works director, who resigned after being charged in a City Hall corruption case, was arrested Wednesday after allegedly trying to rob someone at knifepoint, authorities said.

Mohammed Nuru, 58, was booked on suspicion of attempted robbery after someone reported being approached by a man around 11:15 a.m. PT who pulled a knife and demanded the man’s property, according to a police statement.

Nuru was peacefully arrested, police said.

Nuru was working at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank in the Dogpatch neighborhood, where he is a longtime volunteer, when he approached someone eating potato chips in the break room while holding a kitchen knife, Keely Hopkins, the organization’s communications manager, told KGO-TV.

That person felt threatened and called police, Hopkins said, but nobody was hurt and the other volunteers were sent home.

A message seeking comment from Ismail Ramsey, an attorney who has represented Nuru, wasn’t immediately returned after hours Wednesday.

Nuru resigned his post last year after being charged with fraud and lying to the FBI. Prosecutors allege he took thousands of dollars in gifts and cash from contractors. They also allege that he conspired with a restaurateur in 2018 to bribe an airport commissioner for prime restaurant space at San Francisco International Airport.

Nuru’s case is still in the courts.

In February, a recycling plant owner was sentenced to federal prison after stating in a plea agreement that he plied Nuru with gifts that included a $36,500 gold Rolex watch.

About a dozen people have been charged with corruption in a sweeping City Hall probe. Multiple city department heads have been forced to resign.

Jacksonville police officer suspended for driving his patrol car while under the influence, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office

A Jacksonville police officer has been suspended for driving his patrol car while under the influence, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Zachary Taylor, 27, was seen hitting traffic cones as he drove near TIAA Bank Field, said Undersheriff Pat Ivey at the live news from JSO headquarters.

According to Ivey, a breathalyzer revealed Taylor’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.08. Anything over 0.0 is too high for a police officer while driving a JSO cruiser.

Taylor has been with JSO for over 3 years. He faces one first-degree misdemeanor charge of DUI.

This makes the third arrest of a Jacksonville police officer this year.

In April Action News Jax told you when an officer was arrested after hitting a handcuffed man as he sat in the back of his patrol car who the officer said had spit on him. A 17-year JSO veteran was arrested days later for allegedly disclosing confidential criminal justice information to a Georgia law enforcement official.

Grey market cars have been a problem in the U.S. for many years, as they do not have the emission and safety equipment required by federal and state law. I once tried a case involving a grey market Mercedes. My client purchased the car from a business acquaintance without knowing it was a grey market car that was worth about one third the value of a U.S. market Mercedes. We won on appeal after a great deal of acrimonious litigation. Happily, my hated opposing counsel was disbarred later after a trip to the grey bar hotel for tax evasion and fraud.

Wonder why there were no glamor shots of these fine young lads on the Yahoo linky? Does this mean there will be some openings at the Junior College…or the choir?

Buyer beware.

Don’t you just love it when a dumb, crooked politician gets busted again for doing teh stoopid sh^t?

Waking up drunk in the wrong house is one thing. Waking up drunk and handcuffed in a wrong house full of cops is another.

Cops aren’t allowed to drive drunk? Who’d a thunk? Then why are there cup holders in those patrol cruisers?
