Well, Bye….

US troops are finally leaving Helmand province, as the exit begins. That post has been transferred to the Afghan Army. So far,  as the article indicates, 60 planeloads of our stuff have been sent back to the good old USA.

From the article:  The U.S. military has transferred an installation in Helmand province to the Afghan National Army as it begins the process of withdrawing from Afghanistan.

Contingency Location New Antonik has been officially handed over to the Afghans, U.S. Central Command officials said in a Tuesday release.

Since President Joe Biden last month announced plans to pull all remaining U.S. forces from Afghanistan no later than Sept. 11, CENTCOM said about sixty C-17 loads of material have been flown out. Another more than 1,300 pieces of equipment were turned over to the Defense Logistics Agency for destruction, CENTCOM said. – article

Why it should take until 9/11/21 to finish this job is beyond me, but the planning is working. A years-long war by the Soviet Union sent the USSR in bankruptcy, until they, too, finally withdrews.  The British Army couldn’t defeat the Afghans when it was then partly in control of what is now Pakistan, so how could we think we were better at it?

Don’t answer that; it’s just a generic question. I am very, very glad we’re finally pulling out of that place and hope sincerely that we don’t have to go back.

Ex, Mt. Damavand, at more than 18,000 feet, may be the highest peak in the world with a hiking path to the summit:

As we’re completing the last scrap of material to leave, a large, ground bunker busing weapon “accidentally” is released and hits directly on a previously scouted weak spot on the mountain, causing a fissure to develop and then the thousands of years dormant volcano to suddenly erupt.
Well, you didn’t hear it from me.
