By Paul Best

A U.S. Navy T-6B Texan II aircraft crashed in Foley, Ala., on Friday, killing both crewmembers on board.

The aircraft that crashed around 5 p.m. local time was “a tandem-seat, turboprop trainer used to train Navy and Marine Corps pilots,” according to the Navy.

There are about 250 of the aircraft in use.

The plane hit a house and two cars, according to FOX 10 of Mobile, but the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office tweeted that no civilians were injured in the crash.

The names of the crewmen who died will not be released for 24 hours after the families are notified, according to the Navy.

Fair winds and following seas, Aviators. Read the rest here: Fox News

Doubly sad,
because only days ago,
an unprecedented milestone of Navy and Marine aviation safety
had been achieved, and recognized.
From the story –
[For the first time in recorded naval aviation history,
the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps closed out the previous fiscal year
without a single aviation-related fatality in either service.]

(Disclosure) – I visited this base,
NAS Whiting Field (Florida), 18 months ago,
while my son was there on TDY for Bell 206 helicopter training.
He did his T-6B training beforehand at NAS Corpus Christi, TX,
and returned to NAS CC for subsequent T-44 (twin prop) training.

Yes, these hit hard on ALL aviator parents,
as news can become nationwide
(in this case, by police and fire departments)
before parents are officially notified.

Initial parental reporting online (unconfirmed, of course)
is that the T-6B trainee is a female 2019 graduate of the
US Coast Guard Academy.
RIP x2.
