The folks at Military Phony<\/a> send us their work on William Alfred Murphy Jr<\/a>. who lives in Moselle, Mississippi.<\/p>\n

Murphy proudly posts his photo of when he was back in the Marine Corps, and claims he is a 100% US Marine Corps disabled veteran.<\/p>\n

And he caught the dreaded PTSD from rescuing the dead and wounded in Somalia…<\/p>\n

Murphy went on to claim he was a Gulf War veteran, spent 22 months overseas in combat, was a sniper for a recon unit, and was recruited by the CIA when he was with the 1st Marine Recon Division from 1992-1994.<\/p>\n

Murphy took exception to some that doubted his claims…<\/p>\n

Here Murphy said he served for 4 years…<\/p>\n

Murphy spoke about being a sniper…<\/p>\n

And Murphy also spoke about serving with the 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa…<\/p>\n

Some people that he was speaking to and\/or saw his posts asked others to look into Murphy’s claims.<\/p>\n

DISCUSSION and SUMMARY<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Murphy enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served from Aug 25, 1993 to Mar 31, 1995 was discharged as a Private (E-1). He claimed he made Corporal (E-4).\u00a0 Although the days vary slightly, the time frame of Aug 1993 to Mar 1995 is supported by both DoD Manpower Data Center and the FOIA results from NPRC.<\/p>\n

There is no record of Murphy serving in Iraq, Somalia or the Gulf War. NPRC would have picked that up.<\/p>\n

In fact, Murphy\u2019s Combat History page is blank. According to this and his lack of awards, he would not have \u201cspent 22 months overseas in combat\u201d as he claimed.<\/p>\n

Murphy\u2019s awards also do not support his claim of being overseas in combat at all.<\/p>\n

Murphy does not have the supportive training nor assignments to be in Recon or be a sniper. He was trained as a Motor Vehicle Operator (MOS 3531).<\/p>\n

Murphy did serve in the US Marine Corps but beyond that, there are not many of his claims that are supported by his military records.<\/p>\n
