A local gun shop owner pretended to present him with a rifle in  appreciation for his non-existent service. The local police arrested him for theft when he accepted the rifle. Then Luna fled to Puerto Rico. <a href=\"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=59165\">He was extradited last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Today we get the news that <a href=\"http:\/\/dfw.cbslocal.com\/2016\/08\/30\/north-texan-who-faked-being-decorated-navy-seal-gets-prison\/?utm_source=Sailthru&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=Military%20EBB%208-31-16&#038;utm_term=Editorial%20-%20Military%20-%20Early%20Bird%20Brief\">he was sentenced on Monday<\/a> after pleading guilty to theft, failure to appear and bail jumping.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The 31-year-old Luna-Gonzalez, who\u2019s an ex-seaman apprentice, was free on bond when he fled to Puerto Rico. He was later extradited.<\/p>\n<p>Luna-Gonzalez received 16 months in state jail for theft, plus three years in prison for failure to appear and bail jumping.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kvue.com\/news\/crime\/man-who-posed-as-seal-sentenced-to-4-plus-years-on-several-charges\/311421484\">KVUE<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>An investigation found Gonzalez was given an early general discharge from the Navy as an enlisted seaman apprentice, and had never been a commissioned officer or a SEAL, nor had he earned a purple heart or faced active combat.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It was a tip from the public to Texas Ranger Anthony Bradford, an Army veteran<br \/>\nwith a son in the Navy, that influenced the sting operation. It helped that Luna presented an altered DD214.<\/p>\n<p>He wasn&#8217;t prosecuted for Stolen Valor, but it was his Stolen Valor that brought him to the attention of local law enforcement.
