{"id":64074,"date":"2016-01-29T07:25:08","date_gmt":"2016-01-29T12:25:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=64074"},"modified":"2016-01-29T06:40:03","modified_gmt":"2016-01-29T11:40:03","slug":"misiewicz-pleads-guilty-in-gdma-scandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=64074","title":{"rendered":"Misiewicz Pleads Guilty In GDMA Scandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CDR Michael Vannak Khem Misiewicz <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2016\/01\/29\/navy-commander-pleads-guilty-in-bribery-case-faces-up-to-20-years-in-prison.html\">has pleaded guilty in Federal court<\/a><\/em> to two felonies in conjunction with the Glenn Defense Marine Asia, Ltd (hereafter \u201cGDMA\u201d) bribery scandal.\u00a0 The two felonies were conspiracy to commit bribery and bribery of a public official.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the scandal, Misiewicz had been selected for promotion to Captain.\u00a0 Now he faces up to 20 years in Federal prison.\u00a0 A sentencing hearing is scheduled for 29 April.<\/p>\n<p>Another Naval officer involved &#8211; LCDR Todd Malaki &#8211; has also recently pleaded guilty.\u00a0 He\u2019s scheduled to be sentenced today.\u00a0 He faces a maximum possible sentence of 5 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>In the GDMA scandal, the CEO of GDMA &#8211; &#8220;Fat Leonard&#8221; Francis &#8211;\u00a0 provided numerous expensive gifts to various Navy personnel in exchange for advance information regarding Navy port calls and\/or the diversion of Navy ships to specific ports.\u00a0 This in turn allowed GDMA to overcharge the US Government approximately $20 million for services performed in conjunction with those port calls.<\/p>\n<p>At present, only one of the GDMA conspirators is fighting charges; the rest have pleaded guilty.\u00a0 A <em><a href=\"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=57546\">partial list of those involved<\/a><\/em> from about a year ago can be found here.\u00a0 However, it is known to be incomplete, as Malaki is not listed there.<\/p>\n<p>The matter remains under investigation.\u00a0 More arrests are possible.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I hope every one of the US personnel involved &#8211; civilian or military &#8211; gets absolutely <u>nailed to the wall<\/u> at sentencing. These individuals were all in positions of public trust and abused them badly.
