You might remember this Mark Kelly fellow who was arrested in November<\/a> for pretending to be a Navy officer, for being in possession of false military credentials and for lying to investigators up in Rochester, New York. According to WHEC<\/a>, he was sentenced yesterday;<\/p>\n

Mark Kelly was sentenced to three months in prison and 36 months of supervised released. He will also have to perform 300 hours of community service at the Veterans Outreach Center and purchase 500 flags to place at veterans\u2019 grave sites.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors say Kelly repeatedly lied about being a Navy officer and would regularly wear a Naval uniform around town. He also lied about being active duty when he rented an apartment in Rochester for which he received a discount on his rent and other benefits.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

One of the times that he was wearing the phony uniform, Kelly participated in a funeral of a local Marine who was killed in combat last August. The judge instructed him to write a letter of apology to the family. <\/p>\n

I know the punishment seems light to us, but in light of how rarely these cases are prosecuted, I’ll take it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
