Specifically, soldiers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/story\/military\/2014\/12\/03\/new-camo-army-combat-uniform-boots-belt-tshirt-acu\/19832627\/\">will need new boots, t-shirts, and belts<\/a> to go with the new camouflage uniforms.<\/p>\n<p>Now, maybe new boots make sense; the desert tan boots used with the ACU were somewhat lighter than the new OCP.\u00a0 The new boots are coyote brown.<\/p>\n<p>But new T-shirts and belts are just stupid, at least if they&#8217;re going to be mass-issued gratis.\u00a0 What, has RIT quit making freaking dye?\u00a0 And a new belt?\u00a0 C&#8217;mon, folks &#8211; the belt isn&#8217;t even freaking visible.\u00a0 The only time it&#8217;s seen is when you take off the jacket.\u00a0 And if you&#8217;re taking off the jacket in combat, well, I think that means you&#8217;ve got worse problems than a mismatched belt.<\/p>\n<p>But I guess the DA part of the Five-Sided Asylum had to find something for some of its staff to work on.\u00a0 This must have been really important.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Army Times<\/em> article has more details.\u00a0 It&#8217;s worth reading &#8211; unless you are having high blood pressure problems today.\u00a0 Then maybe you might want to wait a while.<\/p>\n<p>One of those details:\u00a0 the new OCP isn&#8217;t designed to be &#8220;universal&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0 Jungle and desert variants will soon be announced.\u00a0 I bet at least one of those will need &#8220;new boots, t-shirts, and belts&#8221; too.<\/p>\n<p>Sheesh.\u00a0 GMAFB.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>. . . it turns out that&#8217;s not the case.
