{"id":48226,"date":"2014-05-20T18:50:32","date_gmt":"2014-05-20T22:50:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=48226"},"modified":"2014-05-20T18:53:13","modified_gmt":"2014-05-20T22:53:13","slug":"more-on-social-security-disability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=48226","title":{"rendered":"More on Social Security Disability"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve written before (<a href=\"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=32105\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=35497\">here<\/a>) about Social Security Disability.\u00a0 Well, ti&#8217;s time for an update.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, the Social Security Disability rolls set another record last month.\u00a0 In April 2014, according to the Social Security Administration <a href=\"http:\/\/cnsnews.com\/news\/article\/terence-p-jeffrey\/10996447-disability-beneficiaries-hit-new-record\">nearly 11 million Americans (10,996,447) were receiving Social Security Disability benefits<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This total was an increase of over 15,000 from the previous month.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 9 million of those receiving benefits &#8211; 8,942,232, to be precise &#8211; were disabled workers. The other 2+ million beneficiaries were spouses and children.<\/p>\n<p>The fraction of America receiving Social Security disability continues to rise also.\u00a0 In 1967, 2 million were receiving Social Security disability benefits &#8211; out of a population of roughly 198.7 million.\u00a0 That was about 1.01% of the US population.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the Census Bureaus says the US population is roughly 318 million. Doing the math, that means that <em>nearly 3.5% of the US population (3.46%) is currently drawing Social Security disability benefits<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The number of people drawing Social Security disability benefits today is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">greater than the estimated population of Tunisia<\/span>.\u00a0 The number is approaching the population of Cuba.<\/p>\n<p>Any questions regarding why the SSA is now saying that the Social Security Disability Fund <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pressoffice\/pr\/trustee12-pr.html\">will go broke in about 2 years<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>The CNS article has an excellent graph showing the number of Social Security Disability recipients by year, but it&#8217;s scaled rather small and doesn&#8217;t display that well in their article.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/cnsnews.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/DISABILITY-BENEFICIARIES-PHOTO_0.jpg\">Click here to see that graph<\/a> as a separate image.<\/p>\n<p>We are so screwed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve written before (here and here) about Social Security Disability.\u00a0 Well, ti&#8217;s time for an update.
