{"id":31828,"date":"2012-08-31T08:04:41","date_gmt":"2012-08-31T12:04:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=31828"},"modified":"2012-08-31T08:10:54","modified_gmt":"2012-08-31T12:10:54","slug":"pentagon-to-bissonet-see-you-in-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=31828","title":{"rendered":"Pentagon to Bissonnette:  &#8220;See You In Court&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Looks like the Pentagon is going to play hardball with former SEAL Matt Bissonnette (AKA &#8220;Mark Owen&#8221;) regarding his book.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2012\/08\/30\/pentagon-to-consider-legal-action-against-ex-seal-author-bin-laden-raid-book\/\">The DoD General Counsel reportedly informed Bissonnette yesterday <\/a>that the Pentagon is considering legal action against him and his publisher to force them to forfeit proceeds from Bissonnette&#8217;s upcoming book <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">No Easy Day<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Looks like Bissonnette should have actually read his<a href=\"http:\/\/www.archives.gov\/isoo\/security-forms\/sf312.pdf\"> Classified Information Nondisclosure Agreement, especially paragraphs 3 and 5.<\/a>\u00a0 In paragraph 3, he specifically agreed to submit potentially classified manuscripts for prepublication classification review.\u00a0 (He didn&#8217;t.)\u00a0 And in paragraph 5, Bissonnette agreed in writing to forfeit all proceeds obtained through the unauthorized release of classified information.<\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t any kind of government power grab, or &#8220;prior restraint&#8221; of any type.\u00a0 Bissonnette screwed himself here.\u00a0 He signed a formal, enforceable legal agreement with the government, and he later violated that agreement.\u00a0 So now he gets the consequences &#8211; which were spelled out for him <em>a priori<\/em>.\u00a0 He gets no sympathy from me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Looks like the Pentagon is going to play hardball with former SEAL Matt Bissonnette (AKA &#8220;Mark Owen&#8221;) regarding his book.\u00a0 The DoD General Counsel reportedly informed Bissonnette yesterday that the Pentagon is considering legal action against him and his publisher to force them to forfeit proceeds from Bissonnette&#8217;s upcoming book No Easy Day.
