Lou Holz, one of the legendary coaches of the century – and an Army veteran – passed Wednesday at the age of 89. From what I can read, Holz got a Reserve commission after going through ROTC while at Kent State University.<\/p>\n

American Legion National Commander Dan K. Wiley issued the following statement today concerning the passing of Lou Holtz:<\/p>\n

\u201cLou Holtz was not only a champion college football coach, but he was an even better patriot and role model. At our 2019 national convention, The American Legion honored Coach Holtz with a prestigious award for his charity work. He spent considerable time visiting with wounded warriors who were invited to the event as special guests. He made each one feel special. After the award was presented to him, Coach Holtz made a financial contribution to The American Legion which was completely unexpected by us. It was just another reflection of his enormous generosity. Our condolences to his family, the many athletes who benefited from his leadership and his legion of friends and fans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Holtz, an Army veteran, received The American Legion Past Department Commander Club James V. Day \u201cGood Guy\u201d award during the organization\u2019s 101st National Convention held in Indianapolis.\u00a0Legion.org<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

His record as a college quote was an impressive 249-132-7, and he won numerous championships and awards.<\/p>\n

Holz was a conservative who commented publicly, disapproving of Colin Kapaernick’s “taking a knee” and “Catholics in name only” likle Pelosi and Biden who supported abortion. He even earned the enmity of Keith Olberman\u00a0\u00a0NJ.com<\/a> – can’t be all bad and do that.<\/p>\n

Probably everyone has a Lou Holz quote somewhere in their mind…my personal favorite: supposedly he was asked how he could sleep at night (his new team was , shall we say, less than impressive.)
