Navy tells aircrews to question \u2018inappropriate\u2019 call signs after lewd flight name<\/h3>\n

One of the Navy’s ‘Doomsday’ planes was assigned an unintentionally lewd call sign for a recent flight by an automated process, officials said. The crew changed it over Texas.<\/em>

The Navy is telling its aircrews they should push back if their flights are assigned a call sign that could be considered in bad taste after the crew of an E-6B Mercury \u2014 sometimes called a \u201cDoomsday\u201d plane \u2014 had to change a lewd call sign mid-flight this week, according to Naval Air Forces.<\/p>\n

\u201cGoing forward, aircrews are being advised to challenge call signs that may be perceived as unprofessional or inappropriate,\u201d said Cmdr. Beth Teach, a spokeswoman for Naval Air Force Pacific Fleet.<\/p>\n

The Navy E-6B began broadcasting the \u201cIDICK69\u201d call sign on Monday before it took off from Travis Air Force Base in California, said Ian Petchenik, a spokesman for the flight tracking service Flightradar24.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
