{"id":130243,"date":"2022-09-05T06:00:58","date_gmt":"2022-09-05T10:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=130243"},"modified":"2022-09-04T14:53:33","modified_gmt":"2022-09-04T18:53:33","slug":"peta-would-rather-you-get-the-bends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=130243","title":{"rendered":"PETA would rather YOU get the &#8216;bends&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-130244 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/PETA.jpg?resize=300%2C168&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/p>\n<p>PETA has asked Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to stop doing decompression sickness testing on sheep.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/2022-09-01-letter-to-sec-of-defense-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter sent Thursday<\/a> to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, the nonprofit People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals asked the Pentagon\u2019s leader to \u201cend the U.S. Navy\u2019s support of horrific decompression sickness\/illness (DCS\/DCI) and oxygen toxicity tests on animals.\u201d This follows a similar letter the organization sent to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/2022-06-08-letter-to-usn-re-dcs-tests.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro<\/a> in June.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPETA is calling on Secretary of Defense Austin to switch to superior, human-relevant research instead of sinking money and animals\u2019 lives into archaic tests.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/off-duty\/military-culture\/2022\/09\/02\/peta-flocking-to-stop-navys-treatment-of-sheep\/\">Military Times Outpost<\/a><\/p>\n<p>At my most generous interpretation, the spokesperson is asking for research to end because it isn&#8217;t relevant? I am guessing some of your Navy (or even sport) divers can let us know if\u00a0 &#8216;the bends&#8217; has been solved and is no longer a threat &#8211; I certainly missed that item.<\/p>\n<p>At worst, they seem to be advocating we do our research on people (&#8220;human relevant&#8221; is a bit slippery).
