FBI declares Texas Navy base shooting ‘terrorism-related;’ 2nd possible suspect at large

BY: LAURA WIDENER
The FBI has declared a Thursday morning shooting at Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi a “terrorism-related” incident.

“We have determined that the incident this morning at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi is terrorism-related,” FBI Special Agent Leah Greeves said. “We are working diligently with our state, local and federal partners on this investigation, which is fluid and evolving.”

Officials are still working around the clock on the scene. A motive has not yet been revealed.

“We may have a potential second related person of interest at large in the community,” Greeves said, and encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity.

The shooting took place early Thursday morning after a man attempted to ram a vehicle through the base gate. Security personnel raised a barrier, preventing the man from breaching the gate, which prompted him to exit his car and begin shooting at Navy personnel, officials told The Associated Press.

UPDATED: FBI Lead Agency Investigating NAS Corpus Christi Gun Battle

By: Sam LaGrone and Ben Werner
The FBI is investigating a Thursday incident at a Texas naval air station, after a Navy security team there killed an “Arab male” in a gun battle gate at the base, a U.S. official told USNI News.

The official did not have any additional details on the identity of the shooter beyond apparent ethnicity. An FBI spokeswoman did not provide additional details when contacted by USNI News.

Navy Security Forces responded to an active shooter at NAS Corpus Christi at about 7:15 a.m. EST resulting in the injury to the NSF sailor. The shooter was killed by the NSF team, the official told USNI News.

“One sailor attached to NAS Corpus Christi Navy Security Forces sustained minor injuries and was released from a local hospital,” the Navy said on Thursday afternoon.
“The installation has reopened with traffic flowing through the South Gate. The North Gate remains closed.”

Corpus Christi police said the incident took place at one of the air station’s gates.

In amateur video of the shooting published by KIII 3 News, about two dozen shots of small-arms fire can be heard around the North Gate of the air station.

Isn’t it WAAAAAY past time the US military just says, “Fuck no, no more ME coming into the US for any kind of training whatsoever.”

“We are now on lockdown. You have two hours to pack your shit and say your goodbyes. Your phones will be confiscated and you will be escorted by MPs with rifles until you are placed on the plane for departure to your home country. Your phones will eventually be mailed back to you to your last recorded home address. Do not try to run away, the MPs have orders to shoot, should you attempt to escape. Have a nice day. That is all.”

As I’m typing the above, I’m reminded of an event that occurred at Merrill Barracks, Nurnberg, Germany, about Thanksgiving 1980 (IIRC. I was a noob SP4 at the time). The post commander had called everyone from all units together to an open area on post. As he started speaking, suddenly the entire formation was surrounded by MPs and undercover, with dogs (and rifles?).
The post commander then says, “As I read the following names, they will step forward and be escorted by the MPs.”
He then proceeded to read names for who knows how long (15? 30? minutes). Hash from the Netherlands had become a big problem, so the CID had conducted a major undercover sting to find as many buyers as sellers as possible.

I could see similar happening at various uS military training bases, with all ME (all foreign?) soldiers being called out and escorted away.

PREACH Tox and Spot On. I’m sure, by now, with this latest episode against Naval Aviation, that they have lost that loving feeling for training these MFers. Shoulda started culling them out after the Fort Hood fiasco. No telling how many hundreds, if not thousands, are imbedded hither and yon. It is a well known fact of combat that the best, and most deadly attack, comes from the Trojan Horse within.

V Corps started bringing in the puppies in ’73, hunting for various and sundry controlled substances. At Camp Pieri in Wiesbaden/Dotzheim we only had the one main gate for ingress/egress. The FIRST time they showed up was after morning formation, the gate guard was one of the “heads” and he put the word out before the dog truck was thru the gate. All manner of tin foil wrapped “product” was tossed out of the barracks windows, very little of it actual hash. I heard, later after I left, that they got their act together enough to do the raid at the morning formation. The Soviets missed their opportunity during the early to mid 70s by not busting over the inner German Border. Most of the lower ranking EM were stoned, the Senior EM were half drunk, most of the ossifers were pill poppers, and all were dealing with obsolete equipment and barely remembered training. We’d of had to go tactical nuclear to even slow them down, and strategic nuclear to stop them.

Hey Bro ‘Ed good linky too. My #1 reason to carry is…cause I can!

And, Oh, BTW ‘Ed. That thar New Model Springfield 1911A1 is just about the most drop dead gorgeous gun pr0n we’ve seen this week. I have a vacant cross draw shoulder rig that would love to make carnal congress with one just like it.

Thank you! I’ll have a smoke and dry to dry up the wet spot now.

I heard some drug dealers pushed their CO into a wall locker and threw the wall locker out a third story window in the ’70s.

Sorry, I need to hear from a competent, trusted agency
before I’m on board with this.

Regarding the NAS Corpus Christi terrorist incident:

‘[…]

One sailor was injured Thursday morning after being struck by a bullet, but a defense official said their protective vest stopped the round. The AP reported that she was able to roll over and hit the switch that raised a barrier, preventing the man from getting onto the base, the officials said.

[…].’

Well done, Sailor. Very well done indeed. Her presence of mind to take action to raise the barrier after being struck by gunfire undoubtedly saved lives.

And to think that there are morons who regularly post here at TAH who would derisively and dismissively refer to that female Sailor standing her post on the NAS Corpus Christi gate as a POG.
