Top Marine: Current Physical Fitness Test Cancelled

| April 22, 2020

The Marines suspended the annual PFT in order to meet the federal government’s coronavirus prevention requirements. The article is short, so it’s quoted in entirety.

From the Marine Corps Times:

Less than 24-hours after the Marine Corps said there would be no Corps-wide suspension of the Physical Fitness Test the top Marine announced the semi-annual fitness test for the current period is canceled.

“Marines, the PFT requirement for this semi-annual period is cancelled in accordance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines,” Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. David Berger announced via Twitter Tuesday.

“Our fitness to fight remains a priority, and I expect each of us to continue to maintain our fighting condition,” Berger tweeted.

The top Marine said a Marine administrative with further guidelines was forthcoming.

On Monday afternoon, the Marine Corps said the situation regarding the PFT was fluid, but a decision had not been made to suspend the PFT Corps-wide.

“To date, the Marine Corps has not implemented a service-wide policy to cancel or codify the postponement of annual training requirements; however, the situation remains fluid and continues to be assessed,” Maj. Melanie Salinas, a Marine spokeswoman, told Marine Corps Times in an emailed statement Monday afternoon.

I’m sure the Marine NCOs will “help” the youngsters stay in shape until they can PT for score.

On the bright side, they still have to get haircuts because haircuts are why we won at Iwo Jima

Remember men, lack of discipline kills. Don’t be that guy: PT, haircuts, eyepro and PT belts AT ALL TIMES!

This is madness! Next thing you know the Corps will allow relaxed groom standards, visible tattoos, and SGTMAJs will stop yelling at people for walking on the grass.

Who knows, they may even stop raking the sand outside of company offices onboard Lejeune.

On a more serious note, I wonder how may fat bodies will try and say they passed this cycle?

S/SGT Jones, S/SGT Hunt and Sgt Pierson could all run your dick into the dirt but I was always amazed that Sgt Pierson could smoke as much as he did and still run you ragged. Platoon 1027 1967.

I have seen a few of those dudes.

Coffee, shakes and smokes.

We had a NCO back in the day we called SSG Shaky Smokes for his 2 1/2 pack-a-day habit.

At least a pack in the morning and about 4-5 large cups of coffee before (and after) PT. Coughing and shaking was his PT warm up.

Dude could haul ass, though. Sucked on the push ups, sit ups and about everything else, but could haul ass. Plus he had about 17 in. I think he picked up SFC before he split.

Point being, an older, leather-looking, piece of grizzle that smelled like a combination of booze, smoke and coffee before and after the run and who continually coughed and shook throughout the day.

Something to ponder:

Why has ChiCom Cough not devastated grocery store workers?

Darn near total exposure to everyone else. And yet, no grim reaper rampage.

In this linked article, the author refers to Tucker Carlson, but points out that a deadly and highly infectious disease should have had a huge impact on grocery operations, but did not.

So why is almost everything else closed? Perhaps an over reaction not supported by actual disease properties?

Is this a lift from the Duffel Blog?

And are Wookiees excused from all the PT they don’t have to do already?
