Going for the Double Ace, are we? Congrats on Lucky Number 7, 5th/77th FA.

Commissioner Wretched

Holy heck! Two hits toward becoming a Double Ace! Do it, KOB!!

5th/77th FA

Well hell! FIRST again! Where dahell everybody at? Is everyone just giving up? That low hanging fruit just hung there for a good little bit. Didn’t think I’d be in the running for the Coveted EARNED never given TAH Friday Weekend Open Thread FIRST. Wasn’t even supposed to be here at this point in time, but have had to delay my journey for BP reasons. They tell me that 189/113 ain’t good. Down to 156/83 now.

Maybe y’all just enjoying the free tacos, hot wings, cold beverages, top shelf whiskeys and the hand rolled seegars….Which are, again, on ME.

Artillery…The King of Battle…

FIRST! Signal Brigade. Sword of lightning.

Congrats KOB,

“Is everyone just giving up?”

I wouldn’t bet on it. Don’t let your fruit
hang low next week.

SFC D

First Signal Brigade, AKA “The Jagged Shaft”.

And you will always get to wonder if it is earned or given to you. Teehee.

Looking at that maypole reminds me of the olden days when the little kids did those on May 1. It got to be quite a production when I was a kid. Until somebody screwed it all up by telling us we were celebrating communism instead of spring. Oh, well. It was fun while it lasted.

26Limabeans

We used to play Tether Ball.
It was played around the same type of pole
but with only one strand and only two people
trying kill each other with a hard rubber ball.

SFC D

My elementary school had something like this. If you could jump up to the highest rung and then get your best friend to push, you could get some serious altitude.

SFC D

I admit nothing.
Call my lawer.

OWB

Yep. The old Giant Stride. Got kicked in the sternum by someone on one of those. Thought I’d never breath again! And couldn’t wait to get back on it.

The school had “rules” about who could use them – at least which age groups could use it at the same time. They finally tore it down. It was dangerous, but it sure was fun.

Commissioner Wretched

It’s WOT time, and that means it’s also trivia time! Here we go, friends … another in the seemingly endless series of trivia columns. Hope you enjoy it! DID YOU KNOW…? Has Washington, D.C., always been the capital of the United States? By Commissioner Wretched In a world where prodigies make the news, I have to admit I was never a prodigy. It’s heartening to read about the 14-year-old who earns his master’s degree, or the ten-year-old who can conduct a symphony orchestra, or the 16-year-old who became an international activist for climate. I was never one of those. Though I will admit, my parents used to brag about me being able to point to the sky and say, “Airplane! Airplane!” The fact that I was 25 at the time, however, they never mention. Since I didn’t excel at very much when in the younger years, I’ve made up for it a little bit in my dotage, at least as far as trivia is concerned. And I’ll share that excelling with you right now. Enjoy! Did you know … … the oldest pub in Europe is more than 1,100 years old? Sean’s Bar in Athone, Ireland was built in the year 900 AD. The original building was made of branches and clay, and was replaced in 1970. The pub has been open for 1,119 years. (Now that’s what I call aging.) … humans once ate giant sloths? Now considered extremely cute and slow-moving animals, the giant sloth was at one time hunted by humans during the Ice Age. (In defense of early humans, I must say giant sloths were easy for even the laziest hunters to catch.) … a tiger’s stripes are unique? They are like human fingerprints – no two tigers have the same stripe pattern. The same is true for the stripes of a zebra. (I see a pattern here, don’t you?) … a hitter in baseball is not out if the fielder catches a batted ball in his cap? According to the Major League Baseball Rule Book (2018), Rule 5.06(b)(4)(B), if a fielder catches a batted ball… Read more »

“or the 16-year-old who became an international activist for climate”

Don’t forget the kid that went on to sue CNN
over the “Vietnam Times” Nathan Phillips scam.

Commissioner Wretched

Maybe not a prodigy as such, but he’s gonna be richer than any other 16-year-old!

AW1Ed

Agree with -beans. That 16 y/o girl is not a prodigy by any means. Just enabled by her parents.

SFC D

Not a prodigy. A prop.

Hack Stone

To all who shall see these presents, greeting:

Know Ye, that reposing special trust and confidence in the hygiene and software selling abilities of Hack Stone, I do appoint him a Honorary First Post In The Weekend Open Thread on This Ain’t Hell to rank as such from the first day of May, Two Thousand and Twenty.

This appointee will therefore carefully and diligently discharge the duties of the status to which he awarded himself by doing and performing all manner of things having to do with mentioning Phil Monkress of All Points Logistics working balls this weekend. And I do strictly charge and require all commenters of later posts to render spit takes to appropriate insults. And this appointee is to observe and follow such orders and insults as may be given from time to time by earlier commenters acting according to the rules and articles governing the discipline of the This Ain’t Hell Weekend Open Thread bylaws.

Morose humor is pretty common among team members
of all sorts but filming it is not cool.

SFC D

Gallows humor is not necessarily a bad thing. Sharing it with folks who don’t understand it is generally a bad thing.

Hack Stone

Yet again, The Simpsons called it. Hack Stone Publishing apologizes for the crappy audio, whoever posted the clip probably got their software from some lame ass company out of Bethesda MD.

The Stranger

Is this the same lame ass company in Maryland that is known for, among other things, having a rusty, leaky 80’s vintage Jaguar parked in the driveway and also having a mailbox with no door?

AW1Ed

Heh. When you were adding this comment I was putting up “Today’s Coronavirus Follies” which mentions this idiocy.

The Other Whitey

Still taking all the OT I can get in anticipation of imminent childbirth, so not much progress on the various projects just yet. But I did get my niece’s Banshee into some kind of shape. She decided she wanted red trim instead of pink.

AW1Ed

Nice! Here’s a paint scheme.
blue angel f2f

The Other Whitey

Yeah, my Navy blue came out too dark, although I previously used the same shade as the upper-surfaces color on a PB4Y-1 in WWII 3-tone blue and it looked okay.

It still needs a couple more decals, and I still have to get a custom set of “USS BONHOMME RICHARD CVA-31” made up for the tail. Then a final clear coat and I can unmask the canopy. Ordnance and hardpoints will wait until after everything else is done. Learned that lesson with my other niece’s Double Ugly.

I’ll just be glad when this one is done. This kit was a piece of shit, and while model building runs on the FICE Principle (Fuck It, Close Enough), this one rapidly devolved into “Fuck It, It Doesn’t Go Together Right Anyway.”

Combat Historian

Was it a vacuum formed kit? The vacuum formed kits are a pain to built and can be very messed up due to the vacuumforming process…

The Other Whitey

Nope, it’s a Kittyhawk brand kit. Made in Red China, of course. With a stupid-complicated assembly process that doesn’t actually work. The cockpit alone was four pieces that need to fit a certain way, but have no means of indexing them for correct fit. The pilot’s bang seat wouldn’t go in right once it was assembled, but also prevented the four pieces around it from going together when I tried to put it in first. And that was before I encountered the ungodly shitshow that was the wing root intakes, or the shitshow that was the wings, or the shitshow that was the tailhook assembly.

Contrast with Tamiya, a Japanese manufacturer who’s damn near king of the industry, who puts out kits that actually go together like they’re supposed to and don’t require an advanced engineering degree to figure out the assembly process. Once again, the commie Chinese are assholes!

Combat Historian

As a kid, I built lots of 1/35 scale AFVs from Tamiya, and a few from Bandai and Monogram. Tamiya kits fit together like a dream…

To paraphrase the Hong Kong protester: Don’t trust chicom; chicom is ASSHOLE!

IDC SARC

Whadap y’allz?

OWB

We used to know a guy named IDC SARC…

IDC SARC

Yeah, I get that a lot…too much work, school, stuff an’ thangs keepin me busy.

Hope everybody is doing well.

HMCS(FMF) ret

Good to hear from you, IDC SARC…

OWB

Seem to be. But, there are signs that this isolation/lockdown/whatever inzanity it is that we are practicing is beginning to take it’s toll. Why, there were even claims this past week of agreeing with the resident commie on something or another.

Obviously the world is near it’s end. We’re DOOMED!

A Proud Infidel®™

“Why, there were even claims this past week of agreeing with the resident commie on something or another.”

He says something that actually makes sense about .001% of the time and that was one such episode!

I’m here ya buttholes.
Congrats 5th/77th FA for being the Super Duper HBIC here at TAH.
I never thought I’d see 7 in a row.

I had my telecon with the neurologist yesterday.
Nothing on the MRI for my shingles. It’s just stubborn. He refuses to call it “post” neuropathy because that means I have to hit the 4/5 month mark and this is just 3 and a half so, this is considered within the window of “normal”.

He’s going to get my chiropractor involved and on board, and he’s actually seeing patients but how, is beyond me. He’s also going to review my scripts and I’m hoping that’s a new medication or pain relief.

At least he assured me that this isn’t worse than it is and this too shall pass.

Now go and be fruitful or whatever, bitches.

Love you all, as usual. Fuckers

I was reminiscing about actually sitting in a restaurant when a memory arose. The Mrs and I had just ordered when the manager started yelling about someone’s car which was on fire. Three of us grabbed fire extinguishers to try to control the fire until the FD arrived. The FD arrived and I returned to my meal only to find the owner of the car never moved from his meal, never helped, never acknowledged anyone fighting the fire, never thanked anybody.
He must have been a liberal.

A Proud Infidel®™

Nowadays he’d just wait until it was all over with and than blame President Trump.

What kind of crime did those cats whom are dancing around the maypole convicted of?? I see that they are Felines. Hanging around my place with nothing to do so I have the itch to buy a Barograph which I always wanted and was all set to buy a Weems & Plath Classic 4 diaphram with the stimulis check but after thinking it over that I would have to change the paper strip once a week and replace the felt tip ink pen every 6-9 months I put it off and for less than half the price, I went online and bought a Tendency Barometer which uses a blue and red liquid in the tubes instead of mercury. I already have a 33″ mercury tube ships Barometer on a gimbal which I bought in kit form back in 1982 along with an Admiral Fitchroy 33″ mercury tube which I bought at the same time. I also have a Schatz aneroid Barometer mounted on the wall plus a digital Barometer which displays the barometric tendencies.

The distinguished Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, is getting that gun grabby itch.

rgr769

As all us gun-nutz know, real “assault rifles” have a full-auto or burst function and fire an intermediate rifle cartridge. That is in the military definition of those two words. But then anything used to assault another person could be an “assault weapon,” even a hammer.

rgr769

Well, in my army we didn’t use that term either. But it is used in multiple sources re military weapons.

The first true assault rifle was the German Sturmgewehr, which was substantially copied and redesigned by a certain Soviet Sergeant Kalashnikov in 1947. A few years later and the AK-47 became the most prolific military “assault rifle” on the planet. I wanted to bring back the magnificent, almost pristine East German underfolder I had in Da Nang, but of course it had to stay behind in the company arms room. Though, we did have a sergeant who attempted to ship his disassembled AK home in the back of his little refrigerator, in his hold baggage. The story is that he spent a year in Leavenworth for that stunt.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

Sturmgewehr= Sturm meaning storm or assault,Gewehr=Rifle. Was going to buy one in .22 semi auto but I have my two .22 pump gallery guns.

A Proud Infidel®™

That reminds me of a DS/DS war story of an M88 Crewman who shipped a few AK’s back in the gear oil tank of his vehicle. He smuggled them out of the Motor Pool, reassembled them and sold one to an Undercover BATF Agent at a gun Show!

26Limabeans

“New rules would make it illegal to sell, transport, import or use 1,500 varieties of assault weapons”

Are all varieties firearms?

Yeah, I know. Stupid question.

Ex Governor Paul LePage has announced he will run against her in 2022.

Mason

Damn these people are fucking stupid. They really think that all landlords are rich and can go months without getting rent. They only demand it each month because they’re greedy.

No concept of how the real world works. It’s all the simplistic reasoning of a third grader.

Combat Historian

Want to see what a free press in China look like? No, not the commie party agitprop offered by the chicoms like Xinhua or CCT. I’m talking about the lively free press of the Free Chinese on Taiwan.

Taiwan has loads of newspapers, magazines, and news media that are not afraid to muckrake, investigate, and criticize the ROC Government and the two mainstream political parties that compete to run the country at all levels.

Unlike here in the USA, where the mainstream media serves as the partisan shill and adjunct of the democrat party, the mainstream media in Taiwan have a diversified field of publications and outlets that support either the KMT or the Taiwan Independence Party, and all manners of political opinions in between. It is a lively and raucous journalistic battlefield, with lots of investigative reporting and exposes regarding government and political corruption and incompetence. It is what journalism in a representative republic should look like. Additionally, the Taiwan Chinese use social media like us Americans here, and NOT like the chicoms where only government operatives and commie party shills are allowed access to social media. To get a taste of the free press in Free China, check out the Taipei Times below; lots of stories critical of the government, the political parties, and the cops:

Graybeard

FIRST in the hearts and minds of my grandkids still.

With this spring-like weather, Mrs. GB and I are getting some clean-up going on the back porch – a reposetory for many things that needed in the trash or in another location.

Waiting for a call back from the Dr. Had an MRI on my prostate earlier this week. The PSAs are up 3 full points from 12 months ago, so we’re having a look-see.

My corn and beans are growing well, the squash is blooming and beginning to make. The tomatoes and jalapeno are blooming. Planted the okra later, they are still coming up but I’m hoping they make it.

May squirrel season has started, and turkey season is in effect. Doubt I’ll get a turkey, but hope to pop another couple of bushytails soon.

Texas is opening up – but it’ll be a while before we are all back in business again. Lotta folks gonna be competing for jobs here – and I need one. (Can’t substitute teach now.)

Y’all have a great week.

rgr769

Where is Lars, on this world wide commie day of celebration? Oh, I know, he is having a celebratory circle jerk with his Antifa pals.

A Proud Infidel®™

I DARE Y’ALL to tell me tis isn’t funny to watch! I don’t remember just WHAT the hell I was searching for on YouTube, but I got this, Boat Track Racing at Rockford Speedway, it’s a combination of Demolition Derby, racing and “Fuck Your Buddy” all rolled into one, Automotive Anarchy to say the least! First, you HAVE to be towing a junked out boat behind you via a chain. In order to finish first, you have to have at least a piece of your boat left and if your race boat is demolished and your car is still running, you get to do WTF as you please to demolish other competitor’s boats, it’s Anarchy on Wheels!

OWB

That was hilarious. Was only going to watch enough to get an idea what you were talking about, API, but watched it all. Kinda like watching a train wreck. Can’t look away.

Can you imagine seeing it in person?

A Proud Infidel®™

I myself would sure as hell love to get to watch that in person, just imagine the beer sales in the grandstands!!!

Mason

There’s nothing more fun than going to a demo derby. The boat/trailer race is always my favorite part. Track here does them in a figure 8.

OWB

Evidently I need to get out more. Didn’t know this was a thang. Still laughing about kit. 🙂

Thx for sharing – needed that laugh.
