Concealed-carry holder — wounded by gunfire — shoots 16-year-old gunman in West Side attempted robbery
The license-holder was shot in the leg, while the teen was struck twice in the abdomen, police say.

A 29-year-old concealed-carry license holder exchanged gunfire in an attempted robbery Thursday morning on the West Side, wounding a 16-year-old gunman and suffering two gunshot wounds himself.Shortly before 7 a.m., the license-holder was walking in the 600 block of North LeClaire in Austin when a group of three to five suspects came up and demanded his money and belongings, Chicago police said.
As a 16-year-old boy in the group pulled out a weapon, the 29-year-old drew his own gun and exchanged gunfire with the group, police said.
The license-holder was shot in the leg and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
The 16-year-old was struck twice in the abdomen and taken to the same hospital, police said. His condition was unknown.

Funny, I just bought me a Winchester just like that! I just love that lever action! It is just a little hard to conceal in my shorts?
FWIW: Rossi apparently makes (or perhaps made) a Winchester clone in both .357 and .44. Apparently they’re pretty hard to find (and were even before the latest troubles), and don’t have the same degree of “fit and finish” that the Winchester does. However, they’re reputedly quite functional and acceptably accurate.
Disclaimer: I’ve never owned either; the above is what I’ve read, now what I’ve experienced.
A friend has one in .357 to match ammo with his handgun. The buckhorn rear sight takes some getting used to, but it’s fun to shoot.
I asked santa for a Henry in .357, I’m still awaiting her reply.
That buckhorn sight is pretty well standard on most lever actions. A Williams peep sight is a huge improvement for little money.If you are in the market for a handgun caliber carbine, Marlin’s model 1894, especially older ones made before the Remington buyout are pretty decent. Look for the JM proofmark if you’re not sure.
‘Winchester Cathedral’ – one of the top entires on the all-time insipid list, along with ‘Walk Away Renee’, ‘Ferry Across the Mersey’,and the all time bad lyrics champ, ‘MacArthur Park’. Maybe we should hold a contest for BAD songs…

I’m curious, AW1Ed – did you have a chance to examine and/or fire it, or to discuss the rifle in some detail with your friend? Is what I’ve read about the Rossi accurate?
Every out of the box Rossi I have handled or fired is -rough-. They are strong, but all need smoothing work.
Marlin guns with the “JB” proof are very good. The more recent ones not as good.
The Henry brand guns are good, and USA made.
The Italian Winchester 73 clones are good. (Regardless of brand, Uberti made it) (might be one old exception from way back) the non-73s are generally good
The “new” Winchester lever guns are Miroku made, and are very good. Worth the money if you can.

Yes, functional. But tend rough.
Yes, accurate, enough. Not tack drivers, but usually ok at 100m or less.
If you can find a Winchester I recommend them.
With my Winchester 94 in .45 Colt I will hold a 3″ 5-round group at 100m with good ammo. The Cor-Bon 300gr +P JSP loads are a favorite. (Not for 73s. No no no)

I had a 94. Big Bore Trapper, .44 Mag with 16 inch barrel. I say had because my wife took it as her deer gun. She refers to it as “My Winchester” Damn it!
