2 people dead, others hospitalized after home invasion at Texas City apartment
It started as an investigation into three different shootings after one victim was found at a crash scene and another appeared at the ER.

TEXAS CITY, Texas — What started as investigations into three separate cases have all been linked to a home invasion in Texas City, according to police. The incident has left at least two people dead and three others hospitalized.

The Texas City Police Department said three masked gunmen entered an apartment on 5th Avenue South near Martin Luther King Street around 4:15 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found a 19-year-old male resident dead and his 20-year-old girlfriend suffering from multiple injuries. She had been shot in the head and hand.

The woman said the men had forced their way into the apartment, a shootout erupted between her boyfriend and the suspects, and then the men left.

While searching the area around the apartment, officers also found a juvenile who had been shot.

While police were investigating that scene, reports came in about a car crash on 4th Avenue South near 10th Street South. Officers said the driver, who is believed to be a suspect, was found dead. Police said a handgun was found inside the vehicle.

Opening the teleworking week with a couple at ambient temperature and a couple more in the wind, Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes. Not counting those killed or injured defending themselves; just doesn’t seem right. I’ll bet the two in the wind are in a race to negotiate a plea with the DA.

“The gun-control movement is driven by raw emotion. Facts are irrelevant. Logic is spurned. Utter nonsense is solemnly intoned. It’s little wonder that our most emotive president has made gun control his signature domestic issue.” — Don Feder

Nothing like a multitude of DRTs FIRST thing of a morning. Maybe a little sketchiness in the Houston story? Possibly the race to negotiate is not the only “race” in play there. Houston seems to be in a race to surpass Chitcongo in killing one another off. Good on Ms Thang for keeping the trash out of her home.

Is your Mini 14 now looking wet and covered with either mud or quicksand?

SFC D

You turned it into a… a… scary black evil assault weapon with the thing that goes up in the back and a 100 bullet 30 magazine clip that fires 50 rounds every time you pull the trigger! How could you! Think of the children!

rgr1480

psssht! No bayonet lug?

Skyjumper

….and Dana Loesch just swooned when she saw what you did with your Mini 14, AW1Ed
(that or it was from eating those Super Beets).

The Other Whitey

I gotta get me a Mini-14 one of these days, because fuck Gavin Newsom.

Wilted Willy

You and me both TOW!! Oh how I have to get me some…..

SFC D

The best way to extract revenge on Gavin Newsom would be to bang his ex wife, the magnificent Kimberly Guilfoyle. Don Jr. seems up to the task!

Had a Ranch model in stainless back in the late 70’s
Really miss her. The guy I sold it to lost it in
house fire…or maybe it was a boating accident.
He died shorlty thereafter.
I think his name was Bob. Can’t find the bill of sale.
Or maybe his name was Bill. I dunno….

World’s most inaccurate rifle… the A-Team used ’em for years and never killed anyone despite spraying zillions of rounds around. Actually not a bad little rifle, had a reputation for wandering zero when it heated up and requires Ruger-unique magazines. Seems crazy to me – with so many STANAG magazines around to fit ARs in any capacity from 5 to 40, why design a rifle which doesn’t accept them, or not make a conversion kit? (Yes, I am talking to Savage too!)

I concur on the Mini-14 being “fun”.

An acquaintance, a serious NRA Highpower shooter, dismissed the Mini-14 as “a 25 yard rifle”. Then again, his competition M1A was a magnificently accurate gun.

If Mr. Ruger has used standard AR pattern magazines, the Mini-14 would have been -much- more popular. If he hadn’t gone all stupid on magazine capacity, well, that did not exactly make his products popular. He went for the government market, and learned the same lesson Colt keeps re-learning: Government gun contracts are chump-change and unreliable. Free Americans spend serious real money and tend to be quite dedicated to their toymakers.

“requires Ruger-unique magazines”

The original M-14 magazines didn’t fit anything
else either as far as I know.
Except the M1A versions later on.

Then there was the Marlin Camp Carbine:

“Of note, the magazine of the Marlin Model 9 could be swapped out for S&W Model 59 double stack pistol mags, which are common. The Model 45 used a 7-round M1911-style single stack. In 1990, Marlin discontinued the optional 20-rounder and began shipping the Model 9 with a four-shot magazine before settling on a 10-round mag in 1995”

Always wanted one.

David

Interchangeability is nice. The KelTec SU9000 takes Glock 19 mags, for instance.
Me, I am waiting for an inexpensive lever action chambered in 5.56 which can accept AR magazines. Sadly, I think there are only a couple of lever 5.56s, they ain’t cheap, and they don’t don’t take AR mags.

My Mini-14 is the older version, my newspaper route tips paid for it new/used for $220 around 1986.

“newspaper route tips”

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Christmas was good.
The newspapers wern’t too bad either….

Graybeard

Dang. The cheapskates on my paperroute were doing good to pay their bills on time. And this was when the Southwest side of Houston was a fairly decent place to live.

Old Schwinn paperboy bicycle sure was a workhorse – like the Ford F250 we had later. Slow, heavy, but it hauled a load that otherwise couldn’t be moved efficiently.

OWB

Might have had one of those, too, in a previous life. It was black and not really scary looking. More like kinda cute, which is no way for a firearm to wander about.

Skyjumper

Just received an e-mail from an indoor range I frequent during bad weather days, that I thought I would share here.

It concerns firearm security at home needed more so now since more younger ones are at home these days.

“It is also important to remember your home firearm safety, especially now with so many children bored and stuck at home. Remember to keep your firearms locked up and secure from our young ones, they are stuck at home, bored, and curious.”

11B-Mailclerk

Or, you put the urchins to work field stripping and cleaning every firearm. Then, dry fire practice.

When a range day got rained out, pop taught me how to detail strip a 1911, down to components, using only its own parts for tools. Useful trick.

When my Sergeant, not wanting to admit his abysmal ignorance, “asked” me to clean his 1911, I did just that, down to the bits and thoroughly clean. I was told by the Adjutant to get back to work (mailroom) so I slid the tray of parts back to the owner and scurried off.

(Grin)

The look of horror on his face was priceless.

A few minutes later I returned. “Oh, let me take care of that for you Sergeant.” And rapidly rebuilt and function-checked his sidearm. Spotless of course.

“Uh, thanks…”

That was the last time he ever screwed with me. Ever.

DHS has apparently declared firearm businesses essential, to include ranges.
