Beijing Sends 150,000 Wuhan Virus Testing Kits to Prague, 80% Fail

BY STEPHEN GREEN

The Communist thugs in charge of China have been trying to have it two ways on coronavirus: Playing the aggrieved victim of racism/biological-warfare/whatever, and acting like the international bigshot who, having solved the crisis at home, is now eager to help other nations around the world.

Beijing’s antics are making everything worse everywhere, this time in the Czech Republic.

The Czech newspaper Irozhlas (I-Radio) reports that the bigshots in Beijing sent 150,000 coronavirus rapid testing kits to Czechia which return false results up to 80% of the time.

Forgive the rough Google Translate results, but I don’t speak Czech:

“We checked them on Saturday at the University Hospital Ostrava, but unfortunately the error rate was quite high, so now we are waiting for the results of further testing across the country, they have never been tested positively because it works with antibodies,” said Svr?inová.

She added that the tests showed false positive and false negative results. “We tested those who searched for a sampling site. Fortunately, we were so far-sighted that samples were immediately taken for the classic examination and that just proved the error rate of the tests,” said Svr?inová. Even if tests are used in end-of-quarantine patients, hygienists will want to check their reliability first.

Surprised? Yeah, me neither. Ref: PJ Media
Thanks, Poe.

People will just never learn…Sometimes it’s better long term to just admit you fucked up…And get it over with…But more and more people in general refuse to admit they were wrong or fucked up…An example I will use is Lance Armstrong…He doped..He knew it…But yet drug that shit out for years..

David

Nice pun.

China does quality control exactly as specified… and obviously this time someone high up said “just get them done and forget testing, they’ll work”. Certainly explains why they are getting so few new cases if their test kits are crap.

Combat Historian

Fuck the chi-coms. The only things they’re willing to give us now are pestilence, data hacks, and toxic waste disguised as consumer products. I can’t state often enough, we need to give all our trade in Asia to our Chinese friends on Taiwan, to the ROKs, Singaporeans, and other friends and allies. More importantly, all critical and pharma manufacture needs to be done in the USA. No more fooling around with the red PRCs, time to reward our friends, spite and smite our enemy, and look out for our own country…

LC

The only things they’re willing to give us now are pestilence, data hacks, and toxic waste disguised as consumer products.

And tons of our high-tech gear. And medicines. And machinery. And clothes. And plenty more, too.

Look, I’m all for moving manufacturing of stuff back here, and think one outcome of this COVID-19 chaos might be a shift in that direction,… but a lot of the massive gains seen on Wall Street were from that sort of off-shoring to begin with. Distancing ourselves from the $540B+ in imports we do is hardly easy.

Should we do it? I sure hope so. But profit gets in the way of common sense too often. I also hope we start with strategic stuff like critical pharma needs.

Combat Historian

As mentioned in my post, I’m all for offshoring manufacturing, just not to our enemies, especially the Chicoms…

LC

The issue is that China has the combination of cheap labor and infrastructure, more so than the other options. Again, I think we’re in broad agreement, but pure ‘free market’ types -and wealthy CEOs- don’t exactly go for it.

There’s definitely got to be a better way to go though.

Combat Historian

After this crisis and all that has evolved around it, the chicom advantage of cheap/slave labor and infrastructure has all but disappeared. Offshoring our manufacturing to the chicoms from now on will be a liability, in terms of consumer popular perception if nothing else; you can bet on it…

Ret_25X

China does not GIVE anything to the US. They allow companies to exploit their subjects in order to profit from their labor.

Period. The CCP is the absolute example of what leftist beliefs produce–classes of exploited workers being hung out to dry by a wealthy elite composed of socialists and abusers.

LC

Funnily enough, it’s easy to also make the case that this is exactly what unbridled capitalism produces – profit above all, even if it means exploiting labor to produce pharma drugs of critical importance.

I think the debate over whether the root cause is capitalist or socialist or some combination would go around in circles; I think we can agree that maybe cost shouldn’t be the only consideration in manufacturing things.

The Other Whitey

I believe they call that the Horseshoe Effect, and you’re right about it, LC. Capitalism without morality is not a good thing at all. The big difference is that capitalism can operate morally. Moral capitalism encourages charity and creates opportunity.

Communism/socialism cannot. Communism/socialism will always take at gunpoint, and the “common good” will always favor the takers.

OldSoldier54

That’s a BIG roger to all you stated.

Slow Joe

Fuck no.

Capitalism is not about morality. Capitalism is about free markets, and the freer the market, the more moral society will be.

The function of a corporation or any private enterprise is to create profits, not to fuck around with morality. That’s an empty hole that leads to climate change and animals rights at the expense of humans.

A corporation that’s not have to behave morally, only legally.

That’s why we have the rule of law. Legally, not morally. Morality is a human behavioural domain, reflected in our laws, which frames the legal behavior of corporations and private companies.

Get your shit straight.

How the fuck can you be an American and not understand this very basic concept of the difference between morality and legality.

Fyrfighter

Sorry Slow Joe, but our Founding Fathers disagree with you.. Try this quote from John Adams..

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other”..
Here’s a link to the whole quote, in case you don’t like just the part I cited..https://founders.archives.gov/documents/Adams/99-02-02-3102
That being said, you are correct that corporations are not legally required to act morally, but dead wrong when it comes to not recognizing that capitalism without morality is a bad thing.

Slow Joe

The constitution, yes.
John Adams never mentioned capitalism, and rightly so because capitalism is not a system of governance, but an economic system, which is ruled by laws, not morality.

What’s moral for a person can be immoral for another person. Morality is a value judgment. An economic system cannot be based on value system that changes from person to person.

That’s why we have laws to regulate commerce.

A company doesn’t drop chemical residues in a river not because it is immoral, but because it is illegal.

When Google had that stupid company motto of “don’t be evil”, I thought that was gonna be hell for many people because evil is a moral judgment, and what os evil for a far left winger it is not the same that it is evil for someone on the right.

Fyrfighter

True. though it can be argued that without morality, or to use other words, an understanding of right and wrong, people or corporations will not feel the need to follow laws, and will fail to do so whenever they think they can get away with it.

The Other Whitey

That’s what I was getting at. A “moral capitalist,” so to speak, does honest business, treats their employees decently, etc.

Slow Joe

Unbridled capitalism?

Let me breathe before I blow a gasket.

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9….

Ok LC.
What you call unbridled capitalism is only toooooo fuckin little capitalism, where the socialist elite, the nomenclature, gets all the benefits exploiting the people.

Socialism = Feudalism.

Replace the feudal aristocracy for the communist elite.

President Trump should recall Snake Plissken from retirement to lead federal efforts in establishing a secure quarantine zone around New York City. NYC is the hotspot for COVID-19 in America. City borders must be locked down to prevent residents, some of whom are already infected with the coronavirus, from fleeing to other areas and spreading the disease.

There must be NO ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.

So….you are saying that low quality crap was manufactured in China?

I’m shocked! Shocked I say, to learn that China produces excrement!

How long have we all known that the best way to reduce quality is to move the manufacturing to China? 20 years?

K-Mart based an entire shopping empire on that.

Fyrfighter

As did those that inherited Wal-Mart from Sam Walton… how many of us are old enough to remember when Wally World took pride in selling American Made stuff??

11B-Mailclerk

Yup. That used to be a major selling point there.

Amazing how many kids screw up the good works of a Mom/Pop shop.

A Proud Infidel®™

Oh yeah, I remember in the seventies and eighties when one saw placards hanging from the ceiling saying “We now sell “XXXX” made in [American City or Town] and that went by the wayside after Sam Walton’s passing with his Heirs and Stockholders in search of the almighty dollar!

Ret_25X

the mom and pop shop and the “American Made” things disappeared long before Wal-Mart appeared in every town.

Our town square in my home town was already dead more than 10 years before a walmart appeared.

Kresge went out in 1975, Woolworths in 1980, the Lord’s and Myer’s Brothers in 1981, Barr’s shoes in 1982 and the drug store and candy store in 1984.

By 1986 when I joined the Army, the only mom and pop left in town was the veterinarian and dentist.

What killed the local shop was the mall, what killed the mall was walmart/kmart and online buying.

Some numbers from CDC and Johns Hopkins as of this morning. The Johns Hopkins website has an especially detailed and user-friendly breakdown.

Total known cases of the China/Wuhan virus so far: 438,749
Total known deaths: 19,675
Mortality: 4.44%

These numbers should be considered unreliable mainly due to the Red Chinese lying their Mao-worshipping asses off from the getgo.

Official total number of cases in China: 81,661
Official total deaths in China: 3,434
Official mortality in China: 4.2%

Again, take it for what it’s worth, as the the Chinese communist party can’t be trusted to tell you that the sky is blue. Both numbers are likely much higher, but the mortality rate can only be speculated. Realistically, it’s probably not too much higher than the global mortality percentage.

Official total cases in Iran: 27,017
Official deaths in Iran: 2,077
Official mortality in Iran: 7.68%

Iran is probably as full of shit as the Red Chinese, but this is what’s available.

Total known cases in Italy: 69,176
Total deaths in Italy: 6,820
Mortality in Italy: 9.85%

Total known cases in the USA: 55,243
Total deaths in the USA: 802
Mortality in the USA: 1.45%

California has had a slightly higher mortality at 1.98% than the national figure. San Diego County specifically has had a mortality of just .8% (2 fatalities), comparable with the global mortality of the most common flu strains

It’s certainly not something you want to get sick with, but consider that the Black Death’s estimated mortality was 40% or more. Nowhere has this bug even approached that level of lethality.

LC

California has had a slightly higher mortality at 1.98% than the national figure. San Diego County specifically has had a mortality of just .8% (2 fatalities), comparable with the global mortality of the most common flu strains

You’re off by an order of magnitude, unfortunately – the flu typically has a mortality rate of 0.1% in the US. Even the 0.8% in San Diego is 8x higher, and the US numbers are 14.5x higher.

I just hope community spread is much higher than we know, and has been for over two weeks, so the mortality numbers drop.

LC

Oops – that was in reply to The Other Whitey.

LC

Speaking of getting things wrong, and the virus mortality rate, here’s Ann Coulter tweeting a chart that disproves her own statement:

https://twitter.com/AnnCoulter/status/1242484117373100037

The Other Whitey

That’s why I said *global* mortality, LC. I am not denying that this bug is nastier than your everyday cold or flu, I’m just saying that it’s being exaggerated.

Keep in mind, I’m not keen on getting this shit myself, and as a first responder my likelihood of exposure is decidedly higher than the average layman. My point is to put it in perspective, that’s all.

Fyrfighter

As per the virologist and other docs on the web conference we had yesterday, up to 80% of all cases are Asymptomatic, or have minimal symptoms. If these numbers are factored in, the mortality rate could be much closer to the annual flu.
As both LC and TOW, and others have pointed out, it’s far too early to know for sure, and the numbers from PRC / Iran are bullshit. In addition, the population density, average age, and prevalence of smoking in both Italy and France, as well as the large numbers of Chinese in Italy due to the “one belt / one road” projects, who spread the disease widely before it was noticed, make them poor comparisons as well. The areas we’re seeing be hardest hit in the US are densely packed cities, in many cases with high numbers of people who have traveled to China, and high numbers of smokers / vapers (that’s the most common cohort for younger victims of COVID, and considering the dust-up last year about lung damage from vaping, that’s hardly surprising)

Poetrooper

A little Googling will show a definite correlation between distributions of ex-pat Chinese and COVID-19 hot-spots in both this country and Europe. New York City, ground-zero for the virus in this country also happens to have the largest Chinese population in America, close to a million. The Left Coast, our other hot-spot, has the next highest concentration.

And before you go calling me a racist, Lars, or LC, I think the problem arises not from anything having to do with race but rather with familial and commercial travel and interaction.

Trump was wise to shut down Chinese travel–he should have done it sooner but the Dems would likely have added it to the articles of impeachment.

LC

I hope you’re right and we can have an academic argument over exactly what constitutes an ‘exaggeration’, but I do think your numbers on the flu, even globally, are off. I couldn’t find a single number for global influenza mortality, in part because it caries heavily by region, but here’s a paper that shows mortality rates by region, for multiple years of flu:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6815659/

You’ll note Africa has a much higher mortality among young people,… but not so much among older people, probably because fewer make it to old age. Still, looking at the figures, and in particular Figure 1, which breaks things into those under 65 and those 65 or older, it’s pretty clear that the mortality is generally far below 1%.

More to the point, if we’re comparing US outcomes, the US number of 0.1% is comparable to our best-right-now figure of 1.45%, at 14.5x higher. If as Fyrfighter says, and many of us hope, spread is much greater than expected, awesome. But it’s hard to explain the difference in bodies in the US outbreak sites with the surrounding areas, so regrettably I doubt that’s likely.

At any rate, I hope you, your family and your colleagues all stay safe, and people give this shit the respect -and space- it needs to die out.

Fyrfighter

“At any rate, I hope you, your family and your colleagues all stay safe, and people give this shit the respect -and space- it needs to die out.”

Agree 100% LC, and you’re right, it’s likely we’ll never know the true numbers, because outside of testing every single person in the US, there’s no way to know the number of asymptomatic people, or the once that brushed it off as a cold, or whatever.

The Other Whitey

I appreciate that, LC. As I said, I was never advocating blowing it off. I merely sought to counter the exaggeration with some better perspective, that’s all.

I think the numbers indicate that American medicine is, as usual, superior to that available in much of the rest of the world, especially Red China. That said, you can still die from this crap, and even a nonfatal infection (the vast majority of cases) doesn’t sound like fun. It’s not something to ignore, but neither is it the end of the world as we know it.

Poetrooper

On the subject of the thread? I am not surprised. AT. ALL! In agreement with commenters above. We need to bring as much manufacturing back here or give to “friendly Asian” partners. Preferably, bring it home. It is always about the money, but the Communist Capitalist are keeping way yonder more of the profits than our home grown capitalist. We had part of this conversation before. They build really cheap knockoffs of a multitude of products. Many of the plants that make product for us were built with American money but the ChiCom ARMY controls a good bit of that capability. You may recall when GM got a boat load of bail out money, after they paid off the union officials, they cut craft workers to the bone and built plants in China to make not only car parts, but to build complete autos. It’s not your Grandpa’s Buick anymore.

LC

I’ll play Devil’s Advocate here, with the disclaimer upfront that I think American medicine is pretty decent – it has its flaws, but it’s decent. Then again, I’ve lived in a number of other countries and I’ve also seen the up and down sides of their healthcare too. Often the upsides.

Right now, I’m not inclined to put much faith in snapshot comparisons between countries. For starters, China is likely lying that they have no new cases. And, like here, China’s medical prowess varies significantly depending on where you are – I’d wager medical facilities in Shanghai are top notch. In a smaller, more traditional place, it’s less clear. This is true in the US as well, but to a much lesser degree, obviously.

That said, if we are saying the mortality rate in the US is indicative of better health care, and further making the point that this is because we don’t have socialized medicine,… well, Germany is the counterpoint. Their death rate is 0.4% right now. Likely to climb a little, perhaps, and there’s a lot of discussion as to why it’s so low now. I go back to my original point about snapshot statistics – since death is not immediate, when spread started matters a lot on these statistics.

If you want to argue that US medicine is much better than China on the whole, I probably agree. If you want to argue that US medicine on the whole is better than select, modern cities in China, I might gently disagree. And Germany’s current success is a big obstacle towards arguing that socialized medicine handles this more poorly than our system.

In the months and years to come, I think a good analysis can be done. Right now? The numbers change every day, and the offset from outbreaks in different countries make direct comparisons hard.

Fyrfighter

Just got off video conference with three docs and a virologist doing a panel discussion on Covid in Colorado / US. They said that as we all know, information is changing daily, but the latest info they have, with increased testing, etc. is that the US mortality rate is somewhere less than 1%, that the majority of infections, in Colorado at least are in the 30-60 range. That the slightly higher mortality rate in Colorado is related to the fact that the first known pt. in the state attended a large bridge tournament / luncheon lasting almost 8 hours, with hundreds of other senior citizens. This tracks with the outbreaks at multiple extended care facilities in the state. They are saying that the studies involving hydroxochloriquine are too small to be reliable, and that initial reports warning about ibuprofen usage are unfounded. They also advised that the stories of re-infection have been almost completely debunked, and are far more likely (or in some cases have been proven to be) faulty test results (false negative, as mentioned earlier in this thread is ridiculously high in Chinese tests, but is up to 20% even in some domestic tests.).. as for percentages, current numbers look like this.
81%- no or minor symptoms (flu-like)
14%- Require hospitalization
5%- severe cases requiring ICU ( a little less than 20% of these die, thus the less than 1% mortality). Sorry there was no way to capture the slides / stats they were giving, but it was a panel from the UC Health system in Colorado

The Other Whitey

That tracks with the info I’ve been getting.

Poetrooper

Bet ol’ Poe’s not the only one here who’s ever skinned his knuckles when a wrench slipped and rounded off a too-soft bolt-head made in China. Or cussed a blue streak when all the cheesy Phillips-head screws purchased at Lowe’s, but made in the workers’ paradise, kept stripping out one after the other.

Some older folks here can remember the post-WWII influx of Japanese goods that were renowned for their shoddy construction. But the enterprising Japanese soon overcame their deficiencies and developed a reputation for quality manufacturing.

Not so the Chinese, and I suspect the reason is both cultural and rampant corruption within the ruling communist leadership and management class. Poor quality in Chinese manufacturing is not just a product of peasant-worker laxness and ineptitude but of scheming managerial short-cutting to maximize profits.

Chinese leaders don’t just want to sell you sorry screws, they want to screw you in the process…

OldSoldier54

Just ask anybody who knows anything about the new bridge(maybe 5 yrs old) across San Francisco bay.

Last time I was up there visiting kin, they were thinking it would have to be condemned because so many of the bolts were failing.

All Chinese … because they were cheaper. Don’t know if the structural steel is Chinese.

A Proud Infidel®™

Just look at China’s military equipment along with machinery they produce, they’ve always put quantity over quality which suffers when that’s done.

Poetrooper

OS54, you’d never know it from reading about the Bay Bridge metallurgical problems in most of the politically correct California media, but Guvernator Schwarzenegger farmed out a large amount of the bridge’s metalwork to a Chinese firm that had never built a bridge, Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co. Ltd, a builder of giant cranes for container ports.

I’d say ultimate blame for this one’s more on Arnie for going cheap, than the Chinese, although you can bet all Zhenhua’s contracts for metal materials went to Chinese manufacturers.

rgr769

Yes, these are the same Chinese factory owners/managers that poisoned the pet food that killed many tens of thousands of our dogs, just so they could cut costs and make more profit. IIRC, they adulterated baby formula they sold to us, as well.

Don’t know how accurate this is, can’t remember where I read it. According to what I read, Wuhan has a Bio Safety Level 4 lab in it. A BSL4 lab is top of the line and would be where the most deadly pathogens are studied. It’s also where bioweapons would be developed.

Everything points to Wuhan as the epicenter of the breakout. Also, this particular beastie appears to be very STABLE, ie, not nearly as mutagenic as many other virii. IMO, that would be one of my requirements for a weapon
