82nd Airborne soldiers quarantined at Fort Bragg after return from Afghanistan

| March 16, 2020

More than 300 82nd Airborne Division paratroopers returning from Afghanistan began a 14-day quarantine Saturday to prevent potential spread of the coronavirus, the division said in a statement.

The paratroopers of the 3rd Brigade completed a nine-month rotation in support of the U.S.-led Resolute Support mission and will undergo health monitoring and medical treatment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

“My No. 1 priority is the protection of our Paratroopers, their families, our community, and the prevention of the spread of the COVID-19,” said Maj. Gen. James Mingus, 82nd Airborne Division commander, referring to the disease caused by the virus. “We are taking proactive steps to protect and prevent spread.”

An Army veteran that goes by TSO had this to say on the matter:

Welcome home! Now go to your room. (Luckily the Airborne would never break a rule ever, and I’m sure this will work flawlessly and not a one of them will be out at bars.)

Not sure how things in FayetteNam work these days, probably no barracks whores left around since First Sergeant Katrina Moerk cleaned all that up.

We miss you, Jonn.

Been a goodly long time since I’ve been in FayetteNam too. The good news on this Social Distancing for these troops is that they will NOT have to be quarantined with the (former?) 1SG Katrina Moerk. Got lost in the Google Foo seeing if I could find out what she(it) was up to lately. All the google hits pointed back to Dave’s link on the original post that Jonn made. The Blue Falcon/Facebook link was poofed/not available. There was another Dave post with her picture asking if anyone had seen her ARCOM. Funny as all hell.

Jonn is missed by all, but I would bet that he is very pleased that the Colors were picked up, the ranks closed up and dressed, and that the fight is being carried on.

I also miss Jonn like everyone else. AS TO E8 Karina Moerk, I still think that she/it looks like Gollum with makeup on!

Gaahhhhhhh! I had forgotten this future reality game show loser!

I’m sure these fine young people will be content to remain in quarantine for a mere 14 days, after spending the last 9 months away from home and hearth. And bars.

No, I didn’t type that with a straight face…

Since the troll e-8 Moerk was cited in the post, here’s a little speculation.

Interwebz search says she is currently in San Angelo, TX. San Angelo is home to Goodfellow AFB, on which is based the Army TRADOC outfit of the 344th MI BN (GSU).

I wonder if Big Army exiled her to Goodfellow as a terminal assignment as the Bn S-3 Ops NCO?

And discuss……..

David

Once upon a time Goodfellow was the last stop in the training cycle for some of the EW MOS’s. 250 miles from anything.

Claw

As near as I can tell from the 344th Wiki/Facebook, it’s the AIT schoolhouse now for MI MOSs, complete with Drill Sergeants and everything.

The last positive sighting for e-8 Moerk way back when was that she had been pulled out of the 1SG slot in C, 741 MI and sent up to the Bn S-3 to count staplers and grease pencils.

That’s why I speculated she may have been transferred out of sight/out of mind to the schoolhouse at Goodfellow to put in the 20 years and retire with little or no fanfare.

Ret_25X

she will fit right into the woke culture at Goodfellow…

gaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!

They are no longer referred to as “Barracks Whores”. They will be referred to as “Womyn of negotiable virtue” or “Horizontally accessible”.

Stealing those, or as Marines like to say when they steal from the Army…Creative Appropriation.

One of my cousins is due to come home from Bagram next month. I suppose she’ll probably be stuck with the same thing.

If they are anything like my 19 year old Texas A&M freshman, being locked in a room with computers/phone/game system along with an internet connection is no sacrifice. Also, now that all units are – for the most part – integrated, I guess one won’t have to travel far for entertainment that has to deal with members of the opposite sex. Throw all of that together with as much booze as one can stuff in a wall locker, there just ain’t no reason to go out the way I figure. . .

“First Sergeant, you want me to stay locked up in the barracks and go to formation? Well, don’t throw me in the brier patch or nothin’!”

The Other Whitey

Kids these days don’t know how good they’ve got it. I remember when Pr0n was mainly restricted to print media, as you were unlikely to have a TV & VCR available for your private use. It was a simpler time…

Yes, when I got to my first battery as a butter bar, each gun had its own footlocker full of magazines not even pretending to have good articles. I guess smart phones has, at least, reduced the amount of weight they have to lug around.

Incidentally, I was about to type “that was only in 2001”, but then I realized that was almost 20 freaking years ago. Man does that sh*t make me feel old!!!

FuzeVT

Crap! Why do I only spot typos after I hit post??!!

“smart phones HAVE”. . .

Ret_25X

dude, 20 years ago, I had 15 years of service….

FuzeVT

Yes, I was just 5 years in at that point.

The Other Whitey

I was in high school.

Ret_25X

let me add that I didn’t join the Army until I was 25…

Whippersnappers, the whole lot of y’all. Poe, ‘beans, Jeff, VOV, rgr769, WW, along with myself and the other usual suspects will take up a collection from our Sociable Security allotments and buy y’all a few towels so you can dry behind yer ears.

It’s all in cycles, of course. Last year before I was retired, I told my senior in high school that he was only one or two years younger than my Marines and that I was about 25 years older!
You were there at some point, too, I’d wager.

I turned 25 in BCT. 1987.

During Desert Shield, female journalists attached to the 82nd, complained to GEN Schwarzkopf about the abundance of skin mags at camp. The general defended the paratroopers, and nothing came of it. That was a different time for sure.

Woops – that should be “and NOT go to formation”

Keep them Airborne STD’s off Ardennes.
