Saudi King’s Brother, Two Others Arrested in Coup Plot

The consequences for plotting against a Saudi King may be a bit more harsh than for a “soft coup” like Pelosi et al attempted with the doomed-to-fail impeachment of President Trump. When I was in Jeddah for Gulf War Round One, on Fridays the locals would mete out Islamic Justice in the city center. Several of our ground-pounders went to view the event, departing with much braggadocio. They were a very subdued crew upon return. Seems the Saudis of course recognized the Americans, and were insistent they get up close and personal to the proceedings. In the splash zone, as it were.

I imagine these gentlemen will have a Friday of their own in the not too distant future.

Observing palace intrigue in Saudi Arabia is something of a sport for the international press and today they have plenty to write about.

Sources close to the throne in Saudi Arabia have confirmed that a potential palace coup was thwarted when King Salman’s brother and nephew were arrested for the plot. The brother, Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz, has kept a low profile since returning from abroad in 2018 following the king naming his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as a virtual regent. The 84-year-old king was said to have approved the arrests.

Prince Mohammed, or “MbS” as he is known, has tried some modest social reforms in the ultra-conservative country and also attempted to diversify the economy, making it less dependent on oil revenues. But he has also made many enemies within the 10,000-member royal family, not least of which were those that King Salman has apparently passed over for succession.

Reuters:

Five sources told Reuters that Prince Ahmed and Mohammed bin Nayef were detained in the latest operation. Three of the sources, including a regional source, said Mohammed bin Nayef and his half-brother, Nawaf, were picked up at a private desert camp on Friday. Two sources said Ahmed was taken from his home.
Crown Prince Mohammed, also referred to as MbS, “accused them of conducting contacts with foreign powers, including the Americans and others, to carry out a coup d’etat,” the regional source said.

“With these arrests, MbS consolidated his full grip on power. It’s over with this purge,” the source added, indicating that no rivals remain to challenge his succession to the throne.

In anyplace called a “Kingdom” one had best succeed in overthrowing the King. Read the entire article here: PJ Media

API, I don’t think that they will “just let them eat cake”. And I don’t think The House of Saud will do as The House of Windsor did and banish them to “The Colony.” What this fool has coming makes Harry and Meghan’s punishment akin to a scolding.

From what I understand about beheading is, with no brain to tell the heart to quit beating, the blood just continues to pump until there’s nothing left to pump. As one might say, “It’s rather ghastly.”

One thing I do admire about the Arabs is there punishment is swift, sure, and public. That would be the one feature of their Society we should adopt. Good article in the linky and some interesting, insightful comments afterwards.

AW1Ed,
I was there during that time and also remembering them upon return. It was called “chop chop square” for a reason!!

If I remember correctly, it was the people they caught shooting at one of our buses.

During my visits to several of the kingdoms, we were expressly forbidden to be anywhere near public events.

When I worked over in the “magic kingdom” as a contractor, I was invited to see an execution in Riyadh’s “Chop Chop Square”… and passed on it.

Don’t miss the KSA at all…

Can we unass that place posthaste? Nothing good can come from relations with those monsters.
Except weapons sales.

Which, like with every other country in the region except Israel, we’ll eventually be facing ourselves.

Is that what Chris Matthews is doing now?

Hiding behind a toilet should be the perfect role for him.

They would have been a head of the game if they would have used their heads instead of being head strong into planning a coup and would maybe cost them their heads, so now to be A head of the game, I’ll run over to publix to buy some geedunk and watch the double header from Saudi Arabia if they televise it A head of schedule.

Mohammad bin Salman is breaking the succession rules of Saudi Arabia.
Since time immemorial, when the kingdom was founded in 1932 with British support, the succession rule has been seniority, rather than primogeniture as it is in most remaining western monarchies.
