Gun Nutz Celebrate Victory, Virginia lawmakers reject assault-weapons ban

A bill backed by Gov. Ralph Northam that would ban the sale of assault-style weapons in Virginia failed on a committee vote Monday morning, setting back one of the biggest priorities for the newly minted Democrat-controlled government in the state.

A crowd of gun-rights activists packed into the committee room cheered as the vote came in, with four moderate Democrats joining Republicans to shelve the bill until next year. Heated exchanges over guns have dominated this year’s legislative session. They were also a key topic of last year’s legislative elections – particularly after a mass shooting in Virginia Beach claimed a dozen lives – and gun control groups heavily funded Democratic candidates.

Sorry,  sometimes I just can’t help myself.

Good.

Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty. The demonrats will be back with more of this shit, you can count on it…

Leftists and rust never rest.

A Proud Infidel®™️

Firearms have three main enemies – rust, dirt and do-gooder politicians!

Doc Savage

When 90% of the counties in the State tell you ” we will not enforce this law”, its going to make the legislators pause….that, and history reminding us of the mid term election ass beating the democrats suffered in ’94 after the “assault weapon” ban, and the spanking in 2010 and 2014 when the public became annoyed with the Democrats.
VA just got a blue majority..I’m sure they dont want to lose it again so quickly.

Mason

They must have realized the long term negatives of vast swaths of the state leaving the commonwealth.

AW1 Rod

Which is exactly what I’m doing.

This vote just kicks the can down the road until next year’s legislative session. The baggey-eyed Bolshevik billionaire purchased this VA legislature, and he expects a return on his investment. Blackface Ralph and his Idiot Minions in Richmond will make sure that he gets it…..even if it means waiting another year.

I’m not waiting. I began planning my egress from the New People’s Republic of Virginia the day after the election. Effective 17-Mar-2020, I’m gone…..along with my taxable income.

OC

“…gun control groups ….”
Can you say George Soros?

It’s a somewhat hollow victory when they are set to pass a “red flag” law and “universal background checks” AKA government list of gun owners, one gun a month and other BS.

And it’s all coming to a state near you.

SFC D

That bill pretty much defines everything but a bolt-action, tubular-magazine .22 as an assault weapon. Written by idiots to appease morons.

Anonymous

Morons want everything but revolvers, double-barreled 12ga shotguns, bolt action rifles and the ’96 Mauser broomhandle banned… then they’ll demand more.

ArmyATC

It’s no longer about “assault weapons.” The anti-gun bunch is increasingly going after all semi-auto firearms.

A Proud Infidel®™

And after that they’ll go after lever action because of the magazine and Bolt Action because “It’s a sniper-style weapon”.

Hack Stone

But can we still get fully automatic semi-automatic rifles? Hack Stone went down to his local library to check one out, because he was told by The Anointed One that it is easier to get a gun than a book.

Anonymous

Just ask CNN about “full semi-auto”…

ArmyATC

Yes, you can. But you can’t get the model with the shoulder thing that goes up or the 30 magazine clip.

Lthnrnck1775

Its not over in VA … there are two bills still pending: Red Flag law and Universal Background checks…. still worming its way thru the assembly.

They haven’t received as much attention and thus not as much resistance. We’ll see….

No private transfers and left/libtard pols can become “concerned” about people they don’t like… leftists never rest.

5th/77th FA

They tabled this particular piece of freedom stealing legislation so they could slip in some of their other, more nefarious, legislation. The stench of the swamp from the District of Criminals has permeated further out, and yes, the good idea fairy is bringing this to a state you live in soon. I may be wrong, but it seems as if these SJW types are almost bussed in, set up/backed backed by “someone” and winning enough votes to change the demographic enough to get their way. Almost as if it a plan of some sort.

AW1Ed

AW1 Rod is a teleworker- all he needs is high speed interweb access for his job. He’s pulling up stakes and moving from Virginia to a more gun friendly state next month. Say goodbye to another taxable six figure income, Governor Blackface.

11B-Mailclerk

He doesn’t care.

He has plenty of high-income swamp-critters avoiding DC or MD taxes.

He is importing foreign voters to cast the Donk votes Americans wont cast.

rgr769

Even in Commiefornia one can still buy an AR15. Buddy of mine bought one last month. It is what they call “featureless” cuz it has this ridiculous fin protruding from the rear of the pistol grip so that the shooter can’t wrap his thumb around the grip. Apparently the morons in the Legislature think a pistol grip is what makes an AR lethal.

Dave Hardin

More Kalifornya Covfefe,
but now instead of this:

They can use this in the Peoples Republic:

rgr769

Yes, somehow if your thumb goes around the grip above the level of the trigger, it makes the rifle less lethal, by their reasoning. This is their version of “common sense gun safety.” I am sure Mini-Mike will be against this “solution” to all those dozens rifle shootings.

Roh-Dog

I hope when Jesus comes back he brings Eugene Morrison Stoner with so he can judge these abominations accordingly.

AW1 Rod

Or an adjustable stock. Or a muzzle brake. Or a forend grip. None of these cretins can explain how any of these features make an AR-15 more lethal than a Remington 742.

Because they’re idiots, and incapable of rational thought.

Let’s ban all vehicles with a hood scoop and dual exhaust, while we’re at it.

ArmyATC

The fear mongering over the bayonet lug always amused me. I wasn’t aware there had been a rash of mass bayonetings in the US.

11B-Mailclerk

I am not aware of -any- fixed-bayonet crimes in the USA in the last hundred years, not involving government peeps.

rgr769

Bayonet wounds were rare even in the Civil War, according to what I have read.

FuzeVT

I remember going into gun stores in the mid-90s where you could buy an SKS sans-bayonet. There was also, in those stores, a box of “tent stakes” that one – oddly enough – could affix to their SKS where the bayonet used ta be.
A way will always be found. . .

rgr769

By their reasoning, banning those features on cars would certainly prevent hit and run accidents. (NOT) But the logic is the same. At least in Englandistan when their politicians advocate for grinding the points off kitchen knives, it would make it a little harder to stab someone with said knife.

Don’t give the D-rats in the Commiefornia Legislature ideas; their level of the stoopid knows no bounds.

rgr769

Actually muzzle brakes are okay. It is the “evil” flash hider that is verboten. I looked it up.

SFC D

What about that thing in the back that goes up?

rgr769

The thing that goes up in the back is forbidden in every state because it doubles the body count when the inanimate object starts firing all by itself without any humans holding it. Plus that feature makes it possible to hold more 30 magazine clips, as Quid Pro Joe recently said.

ArmyATC

Hopefully, Virginia gun owners won’t rest on their laurels. This just a reprieve. Democrats aren’t going to let this go without a fight. Unfortunately, the only thing that will stop this nonsense is a favorable Supreme Court ruling stating that banning so-called “assault weapons” is unconstitutional. The only fly in the ointment would be Roberts. With an apparent 4-4 split, he could be the deciding vote.

AW1 Rod

Roberts is a Deep State stalking horse. I wouldn’t trust him any further than I could throw him.

ArmyATC

That’s why Trump needs one more Supreme Court pick.

Roh-Dog

You mean Chief Justice “Obamacare is a tax so it’s ok” Roberts?
Naw… he’s just retarded.

USMC Steve

I remember that. Roberts and the Supremes answered a question that no one asked, and never answered the question that had been asked. And got it wrong both in matter of law and matter of fact. No dictionaries around I guess to see what a fine was versus a tax. Roberts is freaking stupid.

Roh-Dog

Precisely. The Court has been taking a piss on States’ right as of late. Why do we even have States at this point?!? I’m no reb but I’m starting to think the Confederates were right about certain philosophies.

The Supreme Court ruled on Quill Corp. v. North Dakota in 1992 which declared businesses are not compelled to hold taxes for interstate transactions if the business did not have a location in the customer’s state.
Common sense right? State laws end at the border unless there is a preemptive Federal Law.
Fast forward to 2018: South Dakota v Wayfair and now use tax becomes sales tax via magic and feelings because 10th Amendment.
Illogical farce of Statists.
Imagine your state gets to tell a sovereign entity located in a different state how to bilk you, the customer out of money, your state hasn’t ‘earned’.
Tea in harbor time?

Roh-Dog

I forgot to add this little gem from that “living document”, The Constitution of the United States of America,
Article I, Section 9, Clause 5:
No Tax or Duty shall be laid on Articles exported from any State.

Now I don’t have a fancy law degree but that seems pretty straight forward, the Writers meant States, micro to macro.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

This is the kind of shit that makes a Bloomberg such a threat…far too much money in the hands of a shit bag who wants all of you unarmed so they can inflict all manner of new laws on you without any chance you’ll possess the means to resist.

A racist petty tyrant dumping money all over the country to stop firearms from falling into the hands of perfectly law abiding citizens. He was behind the money in Virginia looking to restrict your rights.

He not only wants to take your guns, he wants to help you lose weight by taking away your soda pop and allowing you only small amounts…

Fuck that guy and anyone who supports his dumbass.

ArmyATC

Anyone with half a brain can see that Bloomberg is a narcissistic oligarch with delusions of grandeur. He knows what’s best for everyone and looks down on anyone who isn’t Bloomberg.

Mayor “We need to tax poor peoples’ bad habits so they live longer because they’re too stupid to make the decisions themselves” Bloomberg.
I know what the mayor can do to himself. I suggest he uses lube in copious amounts.
Or not, IDGAF.
Tyrannical midget f*ck.

Jus Bill

Meanwhile in Maryland a similar bill quietly advances in the General Assembly. And nobody notices…

AW1Ed

Oh we notice. They’re “improving” the ridiculous Firearm Safety Act passed in 2013.

Not a thing we can do about it, except ignore it.
