Man shoots attacker in self-defense in Cleveland’s Slavic Village neighborhood, police say

By Adam Ferrise
CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 24-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound after he attacked another man on the street Tuesday afternoon in the city’s Slavic Village neighborhood, police said.

Cleveland police made no arrests in the case, but surveillance video showed that the injured 24-year-old man sparked the incident when he attacked the shooter from behind, according to police. Fifteen gunshots were fired in two separate rounds of shooting.

The incident happened about 3 p.m. on Broadway Avenue and East 65th Street. The 24-year-old jumped out of an SUV and punched the other man in the face from behind, according to police.

The two men wrestled to the ground. A woman got out of the SUV and kicked the other man while he was on the ground, according to police.

The man who got jumped fired several shots at the 24-year-old man in self-defense, hitting him in the arm, according to police. He walked away, but the 24-year-old man and woman got back in the SUV and followed him, according to police.

The man opened fire on the SUV. The SUV reversed course and drove in the opposite direction, while the gunman got in a car and sped away. Police have not identified the man firing the shots.

Lyft driver uses firearm in self defense after Cape Coral man pulls knife

Reporter: Justin Kase
Writer: Michael Mora
When a Cape Coral man pulled a knife on a rideshare driver on Tuesday morning, the victim retrieved his firearm in self-defense and forced the suspect out of the car, authorities said.

The suspect, Adam John Mormon, 28, now faces a charge of Aggravate Assault.

While the Lyft driver was driving around 1:10 a.m., the passenger retrieved a small, black knife and began dictating where to drive. According to the Cape Coral Police Dept. arrest report, at the intersection of Chiquita Blvd and El Dorado Pkwy, Mormon banged the dashboard with the knife while waving it in a “threatening manner.”

The driver told Mormon to exit the vehicle because he was in fear for his life. When Mormon did not listen, the victim pulled out a firearm and told Mormon once again to exit the vehicle. The arrest report states that Mormon complied and the victim left the scene.

It is against Lyft’s policy to have any kind of weapon, with the consequences of being banned from the company. People living nearby do not want to see the driver face any kind of consequences from the company.

The last time I was in a taxi, AWANEd was escaping Memphis’ Blues Alley at about 0230, half shitfaced and pursued by a herd of “Ladies of the Evening.” I don’t think the driver stopped laughing until he dropped me off at the NAS front gate. Hope the Lyft drive has his resume updated.

Still a poor man’s trifecta. Three bags of trash put away…for awhile we hope.

Maybe if you’d a been all the way shit-faced you coulda “loved them long time.” Or maybe they were only half “ladies?” Been known to happen.

The Bay rhetta is cute tho hanging laser sights on it may be a little overkill.

David

In my limited experience, most folks chase the laser dots on the range and consequently shoot poorly. Those who use them as an instinct sight are no worse getting on target than others. Me, I find them a distraction and prefer to stick with some variation of Mr. Patridge’s.

MI Ranger

I like to use them when it is almost dark. I have found that in an excited state (like you would be if your life depended on it) I can’t see the thangy (green is better than red). However, when it is almost dark I also have trouble seeing all my sights and the target. In this situation I can actually pick up the shiny object and confirm my sights are not high! (yeah, I shoot high when I can’t see well…I think NATIC did a study on this).
