SC man who cheated elderly victim out of $150,000 and lied in court gets sentenced

Jan. 24–COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Columbia man who cheated an elderly victim out of $150,000 and lied in court about being a Navy SEAL will serve probation for his crime.

Stan Ray Hudgins pleaded guilty to felony securities fraud after portraying himself as a successful businessman and presenting fake investment opportunities to an elderly victim, according to a news release Friday from S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson’s office.

Hudgins met his victim through the victim’s son, who worked for Hudgins, according to the AG.

Hudgins convinced the elderly victim to give him money that he promised to invest in new businesses. But in one case, according to the AG’s office, Hudgins did not buy the business he said he would and yet sought more money from the victim to run that business he never bought.

At his plea hearing, Hudgins “attempted to continue the charade by telling the court he was a former Navy SEAL and planning to use his VA benefits to send his grandchildren to college,” the AG’s Office said in the news release. However, Hudgins was not a Navy SEAL and had lied to the court, “just as he had to the elderly victim,” the AG’s office said.

Hudgins was sentenced to 10 years suspended to five years of probation with conditions. He is ordered to repay $150,000 to his victim.

Spot on SarMajor. We need to do whatever we can to make sure that the lying, thieving, piece of sh^t Stan Ray Hudgins becomes as Google Famous as we are able. Stan Ray Hudgins lied and stole from people who trusted him. Stan Ray Hudgins is a liar and a thief AND a Stolen Valor asshole. Stan Ray Hudgins will never pay back the people that Stan Ray Hudgins stole from and lied to. Probation my Aunt Mary Jo. Stan Ray Hudgins, the lying, thieving, Valor Thief should be in prison working for 60 cents an hour until the thieving liar Stan Ray Hudgins pays back all of the money that Stan Ray Hudgins stole from people. Plus the lying thief Stan Ray Hudgins should have to pay interest, compounded daily on the unpaid balance that Stan Ray Hudgins stole.

Stan Ray Hudgins, I doubt if you are going to enjoy the screwing that you’re gonna git in prison. The thieving liar Stan Ray Hudgins may have enjoyed screwing people that he stole from but Stan Ray Hudgins is going to be passed around like a pack of mail in ballots at the DNC Convention. You will not enjoy prison Stan Ray Hudgins, I ain’t lying.

The problem, 5/77, is that he’s not going to prison. He got probation instead of hard time.

Yeah, he’s still a felon. But swindling an elderly person out of $150k should IMO get you at least a couple of years of hard time, plus enough of your assets seized (up to and including all of them) to make restitution and pay fines – plus the estimated cost of your incarceration.

I really detest those who prey on the elderly. I had an elderly relative who got swindled out of five figures by a bunch of low-life bastards running a scam. Luckily they could afford the loss without too much pain; many who get burned like that really can’t.

If this had somehow been construed as a “hate crime,” then Hudgins probably would have been thrown in prison for at least 10 years. As it is, he’s now free to prey upon more victims and I can almost guarantee that he will never pay back the $150K.

        • 5th/77th FA says:

Hondo, I’m betting the house that the lying, thieving, piece of sh^t Stan Ray Hudgins is NOT going to pay the restitution that the thief, Stan Ray Hudgins, owes. As pointed out below by other commenters, NOT paying will cause the probation of thief Stan Ray Hudgins to be set aside and he WILL be sent to become the salad tosser and taster of man meat sammiches and receiver of deep prostate massage from the boys at the BTJ&T Deli. Just as abusers of children, old folks, and critters have a special place in Hell, thus do the same have a special place in the general population of any prison. Even if he does pay restitution on this case, his probation will continue and once a thief and liar like Stan Ray Hudgins, always a lying thief like Stan Ray Hudgins. I’m sure he got such a sentence this time as a 1st offender. He will step on his crank again, somewhere, somehow, and with enough Google Fame his sentence will be, just like Mr. Tiny, longer and harder.

Probation MY ASS, he ought to be in the company of Bubba, Thor, Julio and “Tiny Tyrone” but if he screws the pooch on his probation I’m sure that he will go there, what a Bernath!

  3. Slow Joe says:

WTF is going on with our judicial system?

  4. AW1Ed says:

Repay the $150,000 to make the elder gentleman whole, THEN start on restitution. Failure to pay lands the scum in the slam with his brand new friends for a very long time.

  5. Mason says:

Steal $150k from an old man and then blatantly lie to the court and they give him probation? That ought to teach him. Bailiff, hold the man’s hand while he give him the symbolic slap on his wrist please.

  6. A Proud Infidel®™️ says:

He sounds like the type who would skip town and try his con games elsewhere, here’s hoping that he gets what he truly deserves, a special place in hell exists for shits like him!

  7. USAFRetired says:

Are their any future charges pending for the lie at trial about being a SEAL?

Tack those on to the Probation revocation when he doesn’t make restitution.

  8. BruteLarson407 says:

He must be related to someone special down there. I can’t seem to find a picture of him in any report.

  9. borderbill says:

It’s called justice—it ain’t fair; it’s not right; it don’ be makin’ no sense–it’s (current} “American justice”. Let’s get busy and change it.

  10. CavScoutCoastie says:

Can he be sentenced to an ass beating? This is how vigilante justice gets started.
