NAVSTA Great Lakes On Lockdown

| January 24, 2020

This just in a few minutes ago: NS Great Lakes is on lockdown after a “gate runner”  walked through the front gates without showing ID or credentials and just kept going.

This is on their Facebook page this morning:

LOCKDOWN FOR NAVSTA GREAT LAKES
RUN, HIDE, FIGHT! ALL PERSONNEL, LOCKDOWN. TAKE COVER IN NEAREST BUILDING OR STRUCTURE. AWAIT INSTRUCTION. ALL GATES ARE CLOSED.

We are looking for a gate runner.

——————-

Great Lakes is a big base with lots of places to hide. There is a graduation going on today, but no word on how that will be affected, if at all.

Will add more as soon as more info becomes available.

I remember walking through the gate and recruits were yelling out the barracks windows that we were making a big mistake and to go home. Got to go now and look for those clothing stops to hang up my clothes after I do the laundry. Any of you old Squids remember the Boot camp clothing stops that you had to cut off the little fuzzy Irish Pennants that stuck out of the metal (aglet) ends of the stops.

Ex:

Thank You for posting this story.

Learned something new today.

The Navy only has one (1) Boot Camp/Basic Training: NAVSTA Great Lakes.

“ADVISORY:
At approximately 7 a.m. (CST) today, a black Toyota Camry made an unauthorized entry into Gate One at Naval Station Great Lakes. The driver did not follow directions of the gate sentry.

Base officials immediately locked down the main side of the base and initiated force protection measures. A search for the suspect and vehicle began.

With support from local, state and federal law enforcement, the vehicle was found at approximately 9:30 a.m. (CST) and shortly thereafter, the driver was located. The driver is an employee on the base with authorized access.

The vehicle and surrounding area are being swept by military working dogs and several buildings have been evacuated.

There have been no injuries or damage to property.

In a separate incident, a civilian vehicle caught fire off base. It was unrelated to the gate runner.

Please continue to monitor the installation’s social media sites for updates.”

I bet the driver is no longer an employee with authorized access.

Short thread.
I’m back.
Day of Jury duty and 6 hours of old movies and then go home, here’s your $15.
Yesterday, recovering (somewhat) from some asshat rear ending me at a stop light about 15 or so mph and totally crushing my trunk and both rear quarter panels and the bumper.
I got the insurance people on it in a day but then I have to go back and re-do because the shop they sent me to isn’t taking any “drivable” repairs until after Mid February because they’re so backed up.
You’d have thought the insurance company would have checked first.
(DUH!)
