Man shot to death on Springfield’s north side

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Police say a man turned himself in after the shooting death of a Springfield man.

KY3-TV reports officers responded to a home on the city’s north side around 5 p.m. Monday and found a man who had been shot.

Police say 19-year-old Dearies Hempstead died at a Springfield hospital shortly after the shooting.

Eighteen-year-old Timber Porter, of Springfield, turned himself in to police Tuesday afternoon. He has not been charged and an attorney for Porter said the shooting was self-defense.

‘I was afraid he was gonna kill us’: Genesee County man shares tale of home intruder
It was around 9 p.m. Tuesday when the man and his bride of 50 years sat alone in their home watching television until there was a knock at the door.

STAFFORD, New York — What would you do if someone tried to break into your home? How would you defend your family?

A 76-year-old man Town of Stafford, in Genesee County, says he only had seconds to figure out how to defend himself and his wife from someone he feared was about to kill them both.

It was around 9 p.m. Tuesday in a rural part of Genesee County when the man and his bride of 50 years sat alone in their home, watching television, until there was a knock at the door.

“So I answered the door, which normally I will, because you never know when somebody needs help,” said the man, who agreed to speak with 2 On Your Side on the condition we not use his name or show his face.

“Soon as I cracked the door, he pushed me and the door back with a gun in my face, and he says, ‘This is a robbery. Get me your money or I’m gonna kill you!”

After they scraped up what they had, the armed man ordered them to a downstairs laundry room.

“Well, then I got worried because, you know, why would you want me to go down in the back room? He came in the front door. If he was gonna leave, he’d go out that door. And I thought, ‘He’s gonna shoot us when we go down there.”
He wouldn’t get the chance.

As the robber waited up the landing for the victim’s wife, who uses a wheelchair, to get into the stair chair, he went below.

“And so I just came down, backed up to the wall, you know,” he said.

Right near a shelf is where he kept a shotgun, loaded with bird shot.

“I never fired it. I didn’t even know if it would shoot or not,” he said. “Reached up, brought it down, put it behind my back because it’s a shotgun, you know?”

Moments later, when the would-be bandit entered the room, “so I just came up and shot from the hip. One barrel because it’s a double-barrel shotgun, and he went down.”

North Carolina double-murder suspect, 13, escapes after court appearance, sparking massive search

13-year-old murder suspect escapes from courthouse. Jericho W. was scheduled to appear in court for two counts of first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon charge when he managed to escape. The 13-year-old was wearing leg restraints and no shoes when he went on the run.

By Travis Fedschun
North Carolina authorities forged ahead Wednesday with a massive statewide manhunt for a 13-year-old accused of double murder, 24 hours after the teen gave officials the slip following a court appearance.

The North Carolina Department of Public Safety said in a news release that the escaped teen, identified only as Jericho W., escaped Tuesday around 12:10 p.m. after going before a judge in Lumberton.

“Division officials have a high degree of concern for the safety of both the juvenile and the public, due to a prior history of assaultive and unpredictable behavior,” the agency said.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook the teenager escaped from the custody of the state’s Department of Public Safety Transport Team.

The 13-year-old was scheduled to appear in court for two counts of first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapons charge, the sheriff’s office added. It’s not clear if the teenager was being charged as an adult or juvenile, as North Carolina officials told Fox News they couldn’t not comment on the case because it involves a juvenile.

Shoot, shovel, shut up. Or better yet, put a hog pen in the backyard.

13 yo. sigh

There may and or may not be a Kahr K40 that survived the tragedy of the boat accident in the quicksand during the tornado.

Does one pahk that Kahr in the yahd?

Nice sneak and hipshoot of the shotgun. Pretty good outcome for “never even fired this before”.

-Buckshot- folks, load -buckshot-. Birdshot is for birds.

Toxic Deplorable Racist B Woodman

Birdshot worked well enough to take down this asshat.

11B-Mailclerk

He survived it.

JURASSICHM

Wonder if Porter’s family yelled “Timber!” every time he fell down as a kid?

Well at least he didn’t have to worry about overpenetration and OO buckshot sailing through the perp and into his wife.

11B-Mailclerk

He is lucky the perp gave up. He may not have hit anything vital.

Buckshot rarely passes clear through a human torso.

Birdshot rarely penetrates deep enough to do real damage.

Had a young lady commit suicide with a 12ga, shooting birdshot. As with all of the female gun suicides I responded to, she shot herself in the upper stomach. Hell of a way to go, it took her about 2 hours in the ER to finally pass.

Shot the perp in the Hip, now that’s hip as we used to say back in the 50’s. Kahrs!!!. I mentioned in the past on this site about the Kahr .45 I bought with the recoil spring so hard to pull back and the piece that fell off of the back of the slide which I traded in for the Springfield XDSC .40. Turns out that Kahr at the time had Quality control issues at their factory. Don’t know about their 9MM’S but this model was a POS. to be fair about Kahrs, the Kahr .45 I bought was back in 2008.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

Glad to see you have a problem free Kahr AW1Ed. I originaly bought that single stack .45 because of it’s thin slide/frame width but like I mentioned, it was possibly faulty due to a Quality control issue or another issue. I actually had pain in my pec muscles trying to rack the slide and had to wear stippled gloves to grip the slide.

Jason

That 13 yr old POS has been caught. Turned in by his mother.

Good!

Mine once told me, in an effort to encourage “straight and narrow” navigation:

“I brought you into the world. I can take you out of it.”

Thanks Mom. It helped.
