Report: Trump makes SEAL Gallagher a Chief again

| November 5, 2019

Navy Times has learned that President Trump has decided to restore the rate of a Navy SEAL acquitted of murder and take action in the cases of two soldiers accused of similar crimes. Details are expected soon.

By: Navy Times staff
President Donald J. Trump has decided to restore convicted SEAL Edward Gallagher’s pay grade to Chief Petty Officer, overriding a decision last week by the Navy’s top admiral, both Navy Times and Fox News learned.

Although naval officials and Navy Times discussed Trump’s looming decision on Sunday, it was announced on the morning Fox and Friends show by network contributor Pete Hegseth, who said he spoke directly with the president about intervening in three war crimes cases.

A week before Veterans Day, Trump’s move clears the way to free Army 1st Lt. Clint Lorance, who was convicted on a pair of murder charges for ordering his platoon to shoot and kill three Afghan men on a motorcycle in 2012 and is serving a 19-year sentence at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth.

It also is poised to end the prosecution of Green Beret Maj. Matthew Golsteyn, who is accused of executing a suspected Taliban bomb maker in Helmand Province nine years ago.

Hope this is the last nail in the Obama era ROE’s coffin. Now close the books on Hasan Akbar and Nidal Hasan.

Forget “close the book” on Nidal Hasan……close the door, and don’t open it for six months. Then open it long enough to remove the corpse (feed it to the pigs or wild boars), clean and disinfect the cell.

Well…good!!! Others on this page may not like what President Trump did, but in this case it is spot on. Was it a dumbass move the Chief made? Yeah prolly. Should the Chief have done what he did? Prolly not. Was this a case of Big Navy wanting to have a scapegoat? IMO…hell to the yes.

2 rules in war. #1 people die. #2? Only God can change #1.

Thank You President Trump!
I can’t wait to vote for that man a third time, a year from now.
Btw, GO VOTE TODAY!!!*

FUCK Nidal Hasan, IMHO he needs to be strapped to the gurney and put down like the rabid animal he is! As for Chief Gallagher, I give Kudos to POTUS and hope to see more further erasure of the 0bama Curse, I mean legacy.

Fyrfighter

Mostly agree API, though for me, as far as Nidal goes, kneecap the bastard in the middle of a pen full of hungry wild hogs, then let nature take it’s course..

A Proud Infidel®™

Hasan was paralyzed by an MP’s bullet, so forget the kneecapping, just throw him in the hog pen oe just abandon him out in the open to suffer and be animal feed!

Fyrfighter

I just figured the kneecapping would bring some blood to attract the hogs…

This works for me.

I don’t disagree with the final outcome here because there is ample evidence he didn’t kill the wounded ISIS fighter. But there are a number of Army SF guys who had bad first hand experiences with this SEAL in A-stan, and two were witnesses to a likely unlawful sniper killing of a farmer by Gallagher which he later bragged about endlessly. It is a good thing he is retiring. I suspect his headspace timing is off. He obviously does not have the judgment to lead a SEAL team. Even in the Viet of the Nam, we did not treat enemy KIA’S like they were a trophy deer.

Given the sheer number of times he was sent into the line of fire, I would suspect that to be the case. But that is not his fault, that is the fault of Big Navy leadership. He simply carried out his orders and went to fight when told to do so. As to that comment about Vietnam and such, nope. Too many ear necklaces and photos of Americans with dead dinks exist. But there was no superficial unnecessary “Law of Land Warfare” to screw with people back then either.

rgr769

Well, I heard all sorts of stories like that, but that is what they were stories. I spent fifteen months in country and I never saw or met anyone who saw an ear necklace on any US combatant. We had a skull in my Ranger Company but it came from a remote graveyard hit by an airstrike which unearthed some of the graves. And I saw an occasional photo of enemy dead, but they weren’t being posed like trophies. And we still followed the Geneva Convention, even if our enemy didn’t. I had to do an Article 32 investigation because an EPW claimed the capturing rifle company had a man who whacked him with a rifle butt.

Graybeard

I’m glad for Chief Gallagher.

I’m sorry he had to go through what he went through. Even if he is/was an adz-hole in A-stan from time to time. I have no knowledge of what went on with the SF guys, and maybe he needed a little ball busting, but the JAGs here need a lotta ball busting, IMHO.

One of my rules is never trust an effing lawyer, especially if wearing a uniform. Particularly ones trying to put you in the stockade/brig.

The CAAF is going to hear Bergdahl’s appeal alleging unlawful command influence in his court martial

Fyrfighter

Yep, there definitely was Unlawful Command Influence in the Bergdahl case… BEFORE Trump was the President… That sickening show that 0 put in in the rose garden, with the traitors father saying a prayer in arabic without a doubt fits that definition!

Sapper3307

Rumer has it the NAVY wants remove his Trident as a final FU.

Graybeard

Methinks the CiC will have some words for any ossifers who attempt that.

Mason

Cue to Leftist outrage that he’s supporting and encouraging war criminals.

I completely agree with what he’s doing. In time for Veterans’ Day is nice, but from a political standpoint he should have waited until after the election.

USMC Steve

Mason, you forget, he is not a politician. He does what he believes is right because he believes it is right. Not because it is politically expedient.

STGCS Ret

I have stood by the CHIEF from day 1 – Very happy POTUS stepped in and did the right thing. Can’t wait to read the book 🙂

Thank You, Mr. President!!!
