From the Pew Report:  Violent crime in the U.S. has fallen sharply over the past quarter century.

The two most commonly cited sources of crime statistics in the U.S. both show a substantial decline in the violent crime rate since it peaked in the early 1990s. One is an annual report by the FBI of serious crimes reported to police in more than 18,500 jurisdictions around the country. The other is a nationally representative annual survey by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, which asks approximately 160,000 Americans ages 12 and older whether they were victims of crime, regardless of whether they reported those crimes to the police.

Using the FBI numbers, the violent crime rate fell 51% between 1993 and 2018. Using the BJS data, the rate fell 71% during that span. The long-term decline in violent crime hasn’t been uninterrupted, though. The FBI, for instance, reported increases in the violent crime rate between 2004 and 2006 and again between 2014 and 2016. Violent crime includes offenses such as rape, robbery and assault.

In Illinois:  Gun owners from around the state plan to remind Illinois lawmakers about their opposition to a measure that would require those seeking a Firearm Owners Identification card to submit fingerprints on the first day of the fall legislative session.

Lawmakers return to Springfield on Oct. 28 for the first three days of the veto session. State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson said he expects it to be a busy session with a lot of different issues coming up. The association will focus on Senate Bill 1966, a measure that would increase fees for Firearm Owner Identification cards.

“Depending on where you are in the state, it drives up the cost between $200 to $300 for every five years so it becomes cost-prohibitive for the law-abiding firearm owner to do this,” Pearson said.   https://www.thecentersquare.com/illinois/gun-owners-plan-rally-for-start-of-fall-legislative-session/article_4fede092-f1bd-11e9-82ce-afb3174c7a86.html

Back in May 2019, the cost for a new FOID was $10, with a renewal fee of $10.  The bill would have changed the current $10 10-year FOID card to a $50/five-year proposition that required fingerprints. https://www.guns.com/news/2019/06/03/illinois-foid-cost-increase-bill-tanks-for-now

But don’t despair: those esteemed political animals in the Illinois legislature have more crappy junk up their sleeves than a sheep has wool.

From Wyoming, the state where the mountains are beautiful and politicians and other overpaid individuals gather to ski, breathe fresh air, and make more bad decisions.

LARAMIE – Ambiguous language in a 2018 law means the Wyoming Supreme Court might have to review every criminal case that involves certain self-defense provisions, a supreme court justice said Thursday.   https://www.gillettenewsrecord.com/news/wyoming/article_c2c0a8e2-7db1-56e8-810a-bb2dadb7b718.html

Justice Keith Kautz made the statement in an auditorium at the University of Wyoming College of Law, where the court heard arguments in the appeal of a first-degree murder case originating in Casper.

A Natrona County District Court judge earlier this year dismissed the case before trial, ruling that a “stand your ground” law only a month old at the time of the killing made the shooter immune from prosecution.

Maybe the crime rate started dropping cause the citizens started fighting back? Maybe the every ten year spike was when the dirtbags were getting early release and then taking up the trade again?

Some scum rob by force, intimidation, or some nefarious action. Other scum rob by passing laws.

Lawer legislatures pass laws to give job security to their lawer & judge cohorts.

I heard the reason for the violent crime rate falling was completely due to the use of “Crime Free Zone” signs and legislation to require criminals to register for permits to conduct violence. I hear Illinois is planning to raise the price of Violence permits due to their high demand! Incidentally, the Cook County permits office has been unable to provide a list of Permit holders to the Police, to ensure Criminals aren’t just making their own permits.

I keep hammering my liberal friends that hammers are used more than firearms to kill/injure people. I only own 2 ball peen and one claw hammer plus a couple of Jewelers hammers when I work on Mechanical Pocket watches parts. Ball peens were great for cutting out gaskets and peening rivets. Ball peen hammers + gasket material + Permatex sealant ==’s how US Navy ships were held together.
