Cmdr. John M. Neuhart pleaded guilty last month to charges of assaulting another officer and conduct unbecoming. (Navy)

ChipNASA sends us the sad tale of CDR John Neuhart, who flushed his career on one night of drunken behavior involving accusations of attempted rape, sexual assault, what looks like stalking, and fleeing from the police. The interesting part, he was tried twice in civilian courts and went free on technicalities, so the Navy decided to Court-Martial him.

A former helicopter squadron commander has pleaded guilty to assaulting a fellow officer and will spend a year behind bars, officials confirmed this week.

Before his plea deal, Cmdr. John M. Neuhart faced charges of attempted rape and sexual assault, plus specifications involving him secretly recording a female lieutenant’s residence and fleeing from San Diego police when they arrived there, according to charge sheets.

He’s been dogged by misconduct allegations since a boozy Sept. 12, 2016 night out in San Diego with the unnamed subordinate.

After she accused him of attempted rape, superiors removed Neuhart as the commanding officer of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25.

His case percolated through several San Diego courtrooms over the next two years.

Two civilian trials ended with hung juries before a judge dismissed charges against him in June 2018.

Instant asshole…just add alcohol. Dumbass!

“…a good man…married father of six…” Bullsh^t!!! Good men that are married with six children don’t go around getting drunk and disorderly with subordinate officers. My sympathies to his wife and children. To him… not any at all. Does the brig in SD have a BTJ&T Deli Franchise? He wanted rough sex, he may end up getting some.

HMCS(FMF) ret

According to the story, he’s headed for the brig at MCAS Miramar for his stay.

In the 80’s I had to take and pick up someone from the brig at NAVSTA San Diego. Got a tour of the place (at 0200) – they like to keep things running there in a orderly, military manner. O’s and E’s were usually kept apart during their stay (I remember being told that they has a few O’s sitting there for things like fraud and sexual assault).

Such. A. Jerk!!!!

He’s an alcoholic. If he weren’t, he’d be able to stop at one or none. He gets drunk and follows this gal to her home and videos her through the window. Stalker!!!!

What an asshole.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes letting alcohol and your pecker think for you will do you in. This IS NOT going to look good on his resume’!

“a good man who made bad choices”

I’m not seeing the good man part.
What am I missing?

I agree 26L. He’s really a “bad man who made bad choices.” Just because he’s married with six children doesn’t make him a “good man.” I’m sure he has a long prior history of drunken sexual assaults. This time a strong woman decided to fight back and he lost.

What a disgrace if the Navy allows this felon to receive retired pay (even if at a lower pay grade). Hell, with this special kid glove treatment you’d think CDR Neuhart was a Hornet driver (sarcasm).

This O dodged a MOAB sized bullet. No indication of a dismissal, so it looks like he will be permitted to keep his retirement benefits when he gets out. Most certainly won’t be retired as a CDR/0-5 after a GDB is conducted for last grade satisfactorily served. Do incarcerated personnel still collect points towards their retirement?

Before I went to A gang, I was in M Div. and while we were steaming to a liberty port which would be my first liberty away from Norfolk NOB, I was down in main control and was really excited about my first liberty so Chief Masterson gave me some advice that since this was my first time to keep my pecker in my pants and drink soda pop to keep me out of trouble.

Old NFO

Even worse, he’s a Mustang, which tarnishes ALL of us Mustangs… Dammit… Stupid ass…

Now, if he had just kept his (stuff) together until making Flag rank, he would probably have gotten away with just the proper wrist-slap.

The Powers That Be will now concentrate on correcting the Enlisted folks to prevent a repeat.

And just HOW MANY will have to sit through additional SHARP and Alcohol Abuse Briefings because of that Rocket Surgeon?

MI Ranger

Yeah, he was just too tempted with all those young 20 somethings directly working for him and their enthusiasm…even though he had six kids and a wife. If these things had not come up before, it was a very good façade.
