Homeowner confronts suspect, fires shot before suspect flees: ‘I did what I think anyone would do’

by Amy DuPont
MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee man is speaking out after a violent confrontation with a man trying to break into his vehicle on the city’s northwest side. The homeowner says he shot the suspect to protect his family — and now it is possible he could face charges.

Vincent Nash makes his living driving some of Milwaukee’s most deadly roads. But he faced even more danger in his own driveway near 105th and Darnel Avenue. The husband and father was getting ready for work early Friday morning, Sept. 6 when something caught his eye.

“My motion sensor light had gone off,” Nash said.

Outside, Nash saw a man trying to break into his vehicles. He ran out the door with his registered gun in hand to confront the suspect. Nash said the suspect did not back down.

“The guy started to wrestle me,” Nash said.

Seconds later, Nash said both men ended up in the bushes.

“You don’t know what’s going to happen. I have a firearm in my hand. I don’t really know what he has. And if I let it get too far and he gets a hold of the firearm, there is no telling what happens,” Nash said.

Nash pulled the trigger.

Rittman homeowner shoots an intruder who turns out to be stepson

RITTMAN —Police are investigating a shooting at a Hilty Avenue home where a homeowner said he shot a suspected intruder who turned out to be the man’s stepson.

According to a news release, at approximately 8:42 a.m. Wednesday, Rittman police received a 911 call from a 68-year-old man who said he shot an intruder at his house in the 300 block of Hilty Avenue.

The 911 call came from a calm man who said, “I just shot an intruder in my house,” before asking for a squad.

The resident identified the suspect as his 28-year-old estranged stepson.

“He went out the garage,” the homeowner said during the call.

The 68-year-old said he thought he might have hit the man when he fired his .38-caliber revolver, but didn’t know where.

“He took off. I don’t know where he is now. He went out the back,” the man said in the call.

Wait! What? Why do you have “got away” for the dog shooting story? Shouldn’t that be 1/0/0?
And what charges would the dog shooter have to face? Discharging a firearm in a residential area?

Too much blood in your caffeine stream thus morning?

I think he is referring to the Dog Owner, there is no indication at this time they have him/her in custody and are charging them with the attack. The shooter should be given a medal and the key to the city…removed a nuisance from the neighborhood.
I don’t hate dogs, but I sure get annoyed when owners let them run wild and damage my car when they run in front of it, or chase my kids or wife! Tasers or stun guns are a better choice but not always practical.

Nah Tox. He can be legit and claim the 3 pete on the in the wind score. FTA, the popo are still trying to ID the dog shooter, ergo…in the wind. And, yeah, he may be in the wind for a multiple reasons related to shooting the puppy, no permit, discharge of weapon in city, and on and on. Or ‘Ed could still be hung over from making rather merry after the Navy victory against HC. He needs to celebrate while he can, cause come December…well, you know.

And the Colt’s SAA? Honey Hush! Take that puppy over any ginger headed Miss Thang.

I wonder when the peta A holes will show up in front of the dog shooters residence and protest the shooting.

Shoot them too. Disturbing the neighborhood. ANd they may also be carrying rabies. (they act rabid enough most of the time)

“A neighbor who spotted the attack …”
“Deputies are working to identify the shooter.”

Huh? There seems to be something/a lot missing from this story. Under reasonable/normal circumstances the above two statements seem to conflict.
But that’s just me.

The Milwaukee shooting confuses me. It appears the police misinterpreted what the fine gentlemen said about why he shot the individual. In Mr. Nash’s own words (to the reporter) he states he confronted the individual and then had to wrestle with him, at which point he shot him. While he was down, Mr. Nash went to call the cops, and the suspect ran away. The Neighbor’s camera recorded the suspect on a bike before the incident. Now the cops say Mr. Nash shot him while running away!? Where did they get that? Did someone else see it (not identified) or did the MPD write down Mr. Nash’s statement wrong: “…after I shot him he ran away”… shorthanded to Shot him run away… which then got translated to shot him while running away.
