FBI: Fraudster posing as petty officer helped fleece females for $2.1 million

| September 6, 2019

Federal prosecutors say that Rubbin Sarpong on March 2, 2017, posted a photograph of himself on social media accounts, holding a large stack of cash to his ear like a mobile phone, with a caption reading “WakeUp with 100K… OneTime. Making A phone Call To Let My Bank Know Am Coming;” (U.S District Court for the District of New Jersey)

Another fraud, scamming lonely women for cash. Adding insult to injury, he posed as a Navy Petty Officer. At least this little gang of posers have been arrested on Federal charges

Rubbin Sarpong never was a U.S. Navy petty officer stationed in Canada or Syria who needed a little cash to come home to his loved one.

Although one victim sent him $50,000 in a series of wire transfers dating back to early 2016, according to court documents, Sarpong really was laundering her money, stashing it in bank accounts or doling it out to co-conspirators on two continents to further what authorities say is an ongoing swindle that preys on lonely hearts with a crush on military men.

Sarpong’s alleged scheme was outlined in a 27-page federal indictment unsealed Wednesday in Camden, New Jersey. It paints him as a grifter living in the south New Jersey town of Millville, with tentacles that reached out to at least 30 victims and three co-conspirators in the U.S. and the West African nation of Ghana.

Federal court records reveal that Sarpong was arrested Wednesday, a day after being charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

A probable cause affidavit filed by Special Agent Dean J. DiPietro, a member of the FBI’s White Collar Crime squad in Atlantic City, estimates that Sarpong and the other three people netted at least $2.1 million in the scams over the past 3 ½ years.

sigh! Ladies if you want to meet a nice guy, turn off your computer and go to the pet food aisle in the grocery store. Look for the fella that’s buying a good grade of dog food. Semi casually check out other items he’s buying. You would think that as long as ‘puters have been around that people would learn that 99.69% of the crap on dating sites is well….crap!

Hope the SOB POS is ultimately charged with a murder type charge for the suicide death of one of his victims. Fresh fish for Bubba, Thor, Julio, and Mr. “Tiny”.

I make 0.00$s (zero) a day, from home, lurking on my computer @ TAH.

The Stranger

Yeah, but aren’t all those “Firsts” worth like a hundred grand?

Nah Pappy. They are priceless.

Question for Miscreant Dickweeds/Weedettes:

Should this Nigerian Prince be added to the Faker’s Big Tote Board just because he said he’s a Navy Petty Officer as part of the scam?

It’s getting close to the end of FY19 and Fake Navy is already leading Fake Army by 4 & 1/3 Fakers, so judgement calls and discussion input are needed.

Thank You ((Over))

Why hell to the yeah Claw. He did pose as a Navy PO so he IS a POS poser. He may even be eligible for either the HoI, Alphabet Assault, or the Toilet Bowl of Taunts. Consider the motion made.

Besides, this is one way that Navy can win something, unlike what happens in December. (snicker)

The Stranger

No, that would be me!

Yep, add him. He’s a pro, has all the others beat by a country mile.

Yes, but isn’t Army leading Navy in total number of comments with the whole Les Brown and his Band of Clowns extravaganza? 😀

Claw

I would think that Army is leading Navy based on the Brown Stain of Elko.

According to my count of all comments about Les, he and his “Awareness Association” are up to 2,193, so he’s getting pretty close to being awarded the sixth Fecal Stain Cluster to the Master Poser Badge./smile

Claw

Perhaps I should clarify that comments count:

The count doesn’t include any directed toward “Vito Da Douche” La Raunche.

Vito is on his own when it comes to amassing comments in pursuit of a Senior Phony Badge and needs at least another 260 to get there./smile

Claw

Okay. Thanks for the input.

Added to the tote board as Fake Navy. ((Out))

Normally I’d feel some sympathy for the victims of these “lonely hearts” scams. But if he is flashing cash and these women are sending him $$ because they think they’ll cash in on ill-gotten gains, then my sympathy is muted by the fact that the women as almost as crooked as the scammer.

As the saying goes, you can’t swindle an honest man (or woman, in this case.)

Docduracoat

Do we only hear about the $2.1 million scammer because the smart scammers stop at $2 million and move to Morocco?
Or are there no smart scammers who get out in time?

It paints him as a grifter living in the south New Jersey town of Millville, with tentacles that reached out to at least 30 victims and three co-conspirators in the U.S. and the West African nation of Ghana.

I don’t even know where to start with this sentence. It makes Sarpong into a squid, which the Navy already is pissed off about. To add to that, his co-conspirators would not be reached by his metaphorical tentacles, instead they would be part of the head of this creature. And the metaphor mixing… gahhh!

I’ve seen better grammar from my six-year-old, and she still says “more good.”

For the record, Millville NJ was always shithole just not to the degree it is today. It used to be a white, blue collar working class town that filled the glass houses with workers and bars on every corner.

Anyone from Millville stille bears a nickname: White sock wearing Millbillies. There was even a bar up until the early 2000’s that didn’t permit women to enter alone without a male companion. It’s just the way it was.

When State Highway 55 was finally complete, the asshole scum from Camden and surrounding shit areas made their way to Millville to hideout when the cops began looking for them. Incidentally, gun crime in Millville has skyrocketed due to Camden having shotspotter listening devices installed. Instead of shooting it out in Camden the shitums now go up on the highway or follow the target to, you guessed it…Millville.

A real shame what the politicians have done to a once thriving area. Agriculture, Food Processing, and Glass Industry are gone and the biggest employer in Cumberland County, NJ now is corrections. Three state prisons, a Federal prison and a county jail. Oh and lets not forget the Section 8!

Cameron Kingsley

Yikes. That’s all I can say. That’s really bad and it says a lot when about the area when your biggest source of employment are four prisons (one that’s federal) and a jail. At least Camden is trying to improve, I still wouldn’t go there, but at least they’re trying.
