‘Why would you just come out shooting?’

| August 23, 2019

Ja’quan Swopes, 14, was shot and killed by a homeowner in Old Mill Creek, in Lake County near the Wisconsin border. Prosecutors allege that Swopes and five other teenagers intended to commit residential and vehicle burglaries. (Family photo)

Mother of 14-year-old boy killed by Lake County homeowner questions man’s account
One of our ninjas sends us this update to a previous article.

By Rosemary Sobol
Tyiesha Annan sounded tired, but mostly angry, as she talked about her 14-year-old son and the questions she has for the homeowner in Lake County who shot and killed him, telling police he fired his gun to scare the boy and five other teens off his property.

Annan has spent the last few days making funeral arrangements and finding a burial plot for her son, Ja’quan Swopes, who police say was with five other teens who drove onto the homeowner’s remote property in a stolen car early Tuesday to commit a burglary.

“Why would you just come out shooting?” Annan asked. “Two things are for certain. He shot him in the head. You knew what you were doing when you shot my baby in the head.”

“He was a lovable child. I only had two kids, he was my youngest,’’ Annan said. “I’m the type of mother. … I’m overprotective. I don’t let him go nowhere.”
But about a week ago she allowed Ja’quan to stay with his cousins near Washington Park on the South Side even though they have had run-ins with the law. “My nephews, they steal cars sometimes,” she said. “Yes, they were wrong for being in a stolen car, but he was wrong for pulling the trigger.”

Nothing at all in this punk’s mother’s narrative surprises me in the least. Neither do the op eds that are linked to that story.

Funniest line in baby mama’s comment, “why would they want to steal a car if they were already riding in a stolen car.” I looked around and still could not find a single f^ck to give for her or her dead punk a$$ spawn.

Update us when she files the wrongful death suit against the homeowner.

Ex-PH2

Two stolen cars = two getaway robbery vehicles, or one, if one has to be abandoned.

Slow Joe

There were 5 dudes, right?

They need 5 cars to play the Fast and the Furious.

He may have been her “bundle of joy”, but to someone else, he was a threat. She refused to even see this from the homeowner’s perspective. Most of us here would see this as justified. Unknown people break into the home, the person feels threatened, the person acts in self-defense.

Her attitude about this gives us a hint on how she raised her son. She lacked proper judgment, as evidenced by her letting him stay with folk she knew have committed crimes. What if there was no “pa” in the home? Guess what, the folks that committed crimes before fill in the role for “pa”, and that role isn’t a good one.

Now that her son did something stupid, and paid the price for it, she didn’t appear to do any reflection on her parenting skills, her attitude, etc. There’s no, “Where did I fail or go wrong” in this.

Yes, but… Nope, no “but” here. If you don’t let him stay away from you, you most certainly wouldn’t let him stay with people that could get him into trouble.

I remember a shooting that took place at a bar that I had stopped going to partly due to their shift to crappy music. Someone died as a result of the shooting, and the suspected shooter got arrested.

The reaction of the mother of the suspect?

Paraphrased: “They better catch whoever killed that man, because my boy did not shoot him!”

A Proud Infidel®™️

Sorry to see her offspring get killed, but IMHO she is completely CLUELESS.

Slow Joe

That was my favor movie from the 90s.

Alicia Silverstone was amazing.

A Proud Infidel®™️

That’s not what I was referring to, now back to your coloring books!

Bill R.

Was he too young to die? Yes. Did the shooter know what he was doing? Probably. If more boys like this one had a father to guide them and teach them the real meaning of masculinity, they wouldn’t be committing felonies and ending up on a slab at the coroner’s office.

Graybeard

^^THIS^^

chooee lee

As in the elderly gent who was teaching the younger loser how to mug a young woman?

The Other Whitey

If she was “overprotective” as she claims, she would never have let her son anywhere near her piece-of-shit nephews, and he wouldn’t have gotten shot while trespassing on private property in the middle of the night with malicious intent. If she had been a responsible mother and taught him that his cousins are pieces of shit who would only bring him trouble, he wouldn’t have gone with them and gotten killed. If she’s looking for someone to blame, she can start with the mirror, then move on to her delinquent dickhead nephews.

Ex-PH2

Yeah, you know, I really do want to tell her right to her squidgy face that that she is a rotten, careless mother who takes no responsibility for what SHE fails to do.

Peter the Bubblehead

Is Wisconsin one of the states where if a perp is killed during the commission of a crime, the surviving perps can be charged with murder as if they (not the homeowner defending his life and property) pulled the trigger?

I hope so.

Mason

They are being charged with felony murder.

We discussed this here;
https://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=89970

and here;
https://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=89983

The latter post is in reference to the DA defending the charges.

26Limabeans

Thanks.
Thought I was losing my mind.
Or at least last Sunday.

thebesig

A knife was recovered from the driveway. If the 75-year-old man didn’t have his firearm, this could’ve ended another way.

HMCS(FMF) ret

If she was so “overprotective” of her son, why in the Hell didn’t she know where he was until the Coroner’s office called her.

She didn’t give a damn about her boy… not a single damn about him.

MI Ranger

She did when her sister called and said he had been shot in Lake County (they didn’t know he was dead yet)…and she said Where they he** is Lake County. Then the Coroner called and told her how to get there: “…first you take the L-Train to the Greyhound bus station, get a ticket for Lake County, we only have one bus stop, its a few hours from Chicago…”

Jay

She probably cares that her food stamp benefit decreases accordingly

HMCS(FMF) ret

Took the words right off my keyboard…

HEY Slow Joe – like I’ve said before, NO huffing floor wax before posting, stick with your coloring books when you do that or get drunk off of three Pud (*OOPS*, Bud) Lights!

HMCS(FMF) ret

I must have missed something really stupid posted by Slow Joe.

Jay

“The other teens put Ja’quan in the Lexus and sped off. They dropped the boy off at a crash site in Gurnee not far away, apparently hoping emergency crews would help him. One of the other teens stayed behind as the others took off, leading police on a high-speed chase that ended on the Near West Side of Chicago when they ran out of gas.” These were his COUSINS. Sounds like a quality family all around.

“….said they fled because they “did not want to go back to jail.”

A little sleuthing of my own. Mom is 36. He was her youngest child. She has (had?) another one. What you wanna bet she has one last name. The deceased has a different and her third kid has a different last name. Don’t blame a 75 year old man for offing your kid lady. Blame your poor upbringing and HIS bad choices. Sorry for the loss, but don’t blame society, God, or anyone. Look in the mirror if you want to cast blame.

MI Ranger

“My baby just had a good heart. Everyone is touched by him,” Yep that sums it up pretty well. When he is out with his cousins everyone gets a touch of regret for leaving something unprotected.
If she was so overprotective, he would not have been out driving in a stolen car, hours from where he lived, driving up rural farm roads.
If you are stopping to pee, you don’t drive up someone’s drive, and not with a big long knife! Clueless Mom just got her wake up call, now she can be overprotective and keep the older one out of jail!

Jay

“CANT NOBODY TELL ME MY BABY HAD A KNIFE!”

Allen

Head shot? Good shooting.

Ret_25X

Another unproductive looter terminated for the benefit of mankind.

A true win/win for society…criminal future suspended AND future as a tax payer burden.

Poetrooper

The money quote from all those is this from a dead perp’s awnty:

“You have to look at it from every child’s point of view that was raised in the hood,” said Harris. ‘You have to understand… how he gonna get his money to have clothes to go to school? You have to look at it from his point-of-view.’”

With reasoning like that she’ll be a Democrat for life.

GDContractor

Our new Dallas County DA is looking at it from that point of view. Theft of items less than $750 value, taken because of “need”, will not be prosecuted by his office.

https://www.dallasnews.com/news/dallas-county/2019/04/17/texas-police-unioncalls-dallas-das-removal-decision-not-prosecute-certain-crimes

USMCMSgt (Ret)

No prosecution for theft under $750. That’ll be an excuse for fucks to steal, then.

Shooting incidents in Dallas County will probably rise since folks will be protecting their property.

Poetrooper

GDC, someone should point out to your Dallas County DA that such an exemption is inherently discriminatory against the poor. If a perp is not compelled to pay reparations, a $750 loss to a poor household can be a major financial loss while to a middle-class or wealthier household, not so much.

Then there’s the matter of homeowner’s or renter’s insurance which poor households are far less likely to have, particularly renters, being unable to afford the premiums. Also a much higher percentage of the poor are renters and therefore less likely to maintain coverage of their home as there is no mortgage holder to require it.

And while Texas law requires auto insurance, poor vehicle owners tend to have vehicles of lower value and opt for lower coverages and higher deductibles. They may have to bear the entire burden of a loss of less than $750, which could very well mean their primary transportation.

It’s a policy clearly discriminatory against the victim class to favor the villain class while making the DA’s case load much lighter, and a big “Fuck You!” to the poor.

Dinotanker

This DA must be “besties” with the Seattle and King County, WA prosecutors.

Glad I leave on eastern side of the Cascade Wall.

26Limabeans

She makes it sound like he has to poach deer to feed the family.

USMCMSgt (Ret)

Precisely.

Am I missing something?

rgr1480

Yeah, deja vu all over again.

Thought I was watching “Groundhog Day” … again.

Oh … something new: who invents these stupid names? Ja’quan, Tyiesha, Demetrius, Shanice, DeShawn, DeAndre, Bonquisha, Sha’Tanya, La’Quishria, etc. [yeah, I had to google those].

rgr769

Bonquisha. That is almost as creative as “Nautica.” I guess her baby momma was just a little more creative. I guess Nautica’s momma was hoping she could make enough money on the pole that they could afford a boat or at least a cruise.

USAF RET

I like Sinutab……must be a family name

Ex-PH2

Demetrius is a very old name – goes back to Rome and Greece, and definitely NOT Afro anything, not even fake Afro.

Cameron Kingsley

I’m surprised Latrine isn’t one yet. Is La’Queefa one?

USMCMSgt (Ret)

How about Shith’ead?

timactual

My favorite was one used by Eddie Murphy; “Noxzema” (I remember the commercials).

HMCS(FMF) ret

Identical twin daughters, Monique and Unique!!!

A Proud Infidel®™️

I had a kid named “Thaizeke”and another from East St. Louis who was named “Franchot Torian” ( last names not given) , it’s been going on for decades!

UpNorth

I met a young lady on a few calls in the hood who’s “front name” was Airmeter. Guess what momma saw when they wheeled her into the delivery room?

timactual

Perhaps the one parent was was an old movie buff and named the kid after Franchot Tone, an actor.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franchot_Tone

Mason

He’s been working hard lately. Don’t be too hard on him.

ninja

Mason, perhaps just a mistake on AW1ED’posts on the same story??

I make them all time!

Aw1ED is a good Navy Guy. I will always root for him.

Everything all right, Ed?

Mike AZ

Story says she has two children, but does not mention where the older child is or what he/she is doing. Being that she raised such good children, I would be curious to know which penal institution the other might be in.

Ex-PH2

The suburbs have become a target for people who want to steal cars and get away quickly. Car owners are now dumb enough to leave the key fob (a starter switch) in the car, sitting in the cup holder, and leave the doors unlocked. And then they wonder why the Lexus or the Maserati went missing.

rgr769

That is why I have my car (a 2016) programed to lock itself when the fob moves a few feet away from the vehicle; it also chirps and honks the horn three times if I leave the fob in the car. Anyone who doesn’t keep the fob in a pocket or purse is just asking for car theft.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

I guess mom won’t be in on the $$$$$ split because the car never made it to the chop shop.

Ex-PH2

They don’t bother with chop shops nowadays. They just use the stolen vehicles in other crimes and then dump them. If the owner has already filed with his insurance carrier, the cops get the car and it goes to an auction.

Jason

Um…helped the mailman deliver the mail? Isn’t that also a federal crime? (in the comments section in the link)

Doc Savage

“she allowed Ja’quan to stay with his cousins”

“My nephews, they steal cars sometimes,”

Madame, I believe you have just won the 2019 shittiest parental critical thinking skills trophy…contrats.

docduracoat

She done raised him wrong!

USMCMSgt (Ret)

14 years old, huh?

Old enough to know what he was doing was wrong, but didn’t care about or consider the consequences of the poor choices he made.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Gee, let’s see.
Criminals

Danger, Will Robinson.

Pretty much covers it.

rgr769

Baby Momma obviously doesn’t know that 14 year-olds have been prosecuted as adults for many hundreds of years. Under ye ol’ English Common Law 14 year-olds were always subject to criminal prosecution, whereas those 13 and under were considered incapable of forming the requisite criminal intent.

Bob Drennan

he didnt do nuthin…

Why wouldn’t you just come out shooting? There’s an armed man confronting you. That’s how this works.

Darwin award right there.

Hopefully this will discourage other punks for trespassing on people’s property.
