Boomer’s Sunday

| August 18, 2019

OK. More than 10 Blame Boomer.
It’s time once again, Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes, for Boomer’s Sunday, where I cull through his weekly offering of ‘toons, and pick the best ten or so. Honorable Mention goes to my pals AW1 Scott, and AW1 Rod, who both provided some entertainment. If I can drag AW1 Tim into the mix we AWs will take the place over. These are from the right, but I am more than willing to post up differing points of view if they don’t annoy me. Now what could be fairer than that? So here we are, with the ‘toons that may amuse, make you think, or just piss you off.

Re: “rising sea levels” – in the 1970s, we were supposed to be facing a new ice age and New York City was to be buried under 30 feet of ice.

So far, no “rising sea levels” beyond normal tides have occurred, and the closest we’ve come to 30 feet of any frozen water were the snowstorms in the winter of 2010-2011 (Boston had 108.6 inches at Logan Airport), the blizzard of 1977-78 (everything was shut down, including O’Hare Airport), and — well, it’s just winter.

And the weather just keeps on moving along.

That last ice age just continues to end, and the world continues to thaw.

Until it decides to play iceball again.

Which one is more survivable by the world’s teeming masses, by the way? Might that be an expression of a conscious preference by some folks who often sacrifice others on the altar of Malthus?

But quick! Socialism before it is too late! The sky is falling/freezing/smoggy/fascist/hot/mumbleSomething!!! Now! Don’t think, do something!

“In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is…in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.”

I remember being told about the coming ice age in the seventies that was going to be caused by hydrocarbon emissions and in the eighties I was getting told that at least 50% of the world’s population was going to be dead by2000 due to climate change. Fuck the eco-doomsday propagandists!

The local fishwrap today had an article by one of their super-smart reporters, lamenting that due high Great Lakes levels, rivers were overflowing their banks and beaches were receding. Unfortunately for the would-be successor to Algore, he picked rivers that actually flow into the Great Lakes, not the other way. Kinda hard for the Great Lakes to flood people out when the water isn’t flowing upriver. Meanwhile, the rivers around here are at their normal August levels.
And, the beaches, if one looks at the dunes behind the beaches, are only at normal high water marks.

The whole Great Lakes region used to be one gigantic freshwater lake. It was vastly wider and deeper than the current set.

The theory is that a glacier acted as a barrier, bottling up glacial saltwater into a small inland Sea. And as that glacier melted it also weakened. Until one bad day it ruptured. And the lake emptied in a season, in a cataclysmic flood event that carved much of the current outlet to the sea

The prior beach dunes remain, much above the current ones.

The freshwater outflow would have destroyed Atlantic current flow for decades, maybe a century or two, possibly permanently.

Nature is .. Impressive.

Mission Accomplished AW1Ed. I laughed, got mad, and thought about the stupidity of some people and some elected officials in particular. The one of the kid driving reminded me of our Papa doing the same thing with us. Everyone of us were competent steering wheel and gear shift operators by the time we were 5 yo. He operated the pedals and we did everything else, including hand signals for turns and slow downs.

Ahh, the cartoons of our youth. Odd that the Road Runner/Wile E Coyote, Yosemite Sam (a personal hero), Bugs Bunny et all were removed from broadcast because of a perceived violent content. Guess the video games that are out there now are not?

And BTW, despite the NYC Coroner’s ruling, you will never convince me that the pervert killed himself.

Let’s not forget about Speedy Gonzales who has also since been censored in the name of *SPIT* political correctness.

We used to have a string of coffee/donut shops around here called “Beaners”. Of course that couldn’t be allowed to stand, it’s now known as Biggby’s.

Speedy is -very- popular with Mexicans.

Smart. Brave. Loyal. -Ballsy-. Outwits the “gringo” cat every time.

I know Americans with Mex ancestry with Speedy tattoos.

Climate change on this planet has been going on for billions of years even though there were no man made things that ran on hydrocarbon fuels.

A Proud Infidel®™️

A few years ago Astronomers were telling us about how the Martian Polar Ice Caps we’re melting, and how much hydrocarbon consumption goes on there?

This seems funny, so parking it here.

Exploding beer.
