FORMER FORT BRAGG SOLDIER ACCUSED OF STEALING MILITARY GOGGLES, EQUIPMENT”

Allen, Bryan Craig

One of our ninjas scared up this sad tale of one Allen, Bryan Craig, thief. He had a pretty sweet little scam going on, until he got caught, of course. As a property book officer for the 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, he would reduce the number of certain items shown in possession of specific companies. This reduced the number of the items, in this case NVGs carried by the unit, allowing him to scarf up the overage.

nvgs

He stands accused of stealing more than $2 million worth of night-vision goggles and other equipment, and faces charges of theft of military property, conspiracy to steal military property and aggravated identity theft. More charges for him and his three accomplices, are pending. Read the entire article here: News Observer

Oh, 19 years in the slammer and a $1M USD fine, if he gets the maximum. Hat tip to our ninja for rooting this scum out.

Anybody taking bets on whether the bottom man on the totem pole of the three accomplices was Buck Private Snuffy, who didn’t get his last cut of the profits and turned all their asses in?

“I will not lie, cheat or steal in order to accomplish my mission” must have been left out of his Warrant Officer’s oath.

MI Ranger

I would suggest it was probably a diligent Company or Battalion Commander who was asking for enough NVGs to outfit his/her(now) unit, when the Property Book Officer told them: “you should not have decremented your required numbers, if you actually have need of them” to which they said…”I did no such thing…show me the transactions!”
Trigger one nice hefty audit and investigation!

Ex-PH2

Well, it was just sitting there. No one was using it, so it’s just surplus equipment, right? Right??

SFC D

It’s not like SF actually uses any type of issue equipment anyway..,

5th/77th FA

What dahell is ongoing with these teh stoopid mofos? Standard issue to anybody NVG came along well after my time, but one would think that they have all kinds of trackable #s on them. And dippy thought he could get away with it? smh

From the article….currently living in Louisiana…should read…soon to reside in Kansas.

Former Fort Bragg soldier charged with stealing military goods
Published: August 8, 2019

RALEIGH, N.C. — Federal authorities have charged a soldier formerly stationed at Fort Bragg with stealing military property.

Bryan Craig Allen of Anacoco, Louisiana, was indicted Tuesday on charges of theft of military property, conspiracy and aggravated identity theft.

article continues below

Prosecutors say Allen used his position as a chief warrant officer and property book officer for the 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group to delete items from inventory lists, stealing more than $2 million in property from December 2016 through June 2018.

The stolen property included 43 enhanced night vision goggles. Court documents suggest that Allen sold the goggles to the owner of a military surplus store in Fayetteville.

* Wonder what is going to happen to the Owner of the Military Surplus store in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

* Wonder if that same Owner sold any of the stolen property via his/her shop or through Ebay/Gun Shows/Military Stores.

* Am guessing the Chief Warrant Officer is stationed at Fort Polk. Looks as if he may be out on Bail. Wonder if he is confined to Quarters or has transferred to a Federal place of business until trial.

* Will this stay in the Legal arena of the US Army or elevated at a Higher Level since it is a Federal Offense?

* Dude may end up at FortLeavenworth with Rank Reduction to E1 with Big Chicken Dinner. Probably will become the PBO of handmade furniture and license plates produced by the Prisoners at the Displinary Barracks (sarc).

* Wonder if his Chain of Command got in trouble as well?

We had a MSG that went to Afghanistan with us that abruptly went back to CONUS after 4 months. Turns out he had just come from Iraq, where he broke into a CONEX and stole all kinds of NVG and laser stuff, which he promptly sold overseas. He volunteered to deploy to Afghan figuring it would keep the Department of Justice off his trail. They found him, and he went back to Federal court, where he received a ten year sentence. We had to bring in a new guy from CONUS to replace him, and his team had to start all over with a new leader.

What is going on with the 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, NC? This was in the Army Times 6 days ago. Another Chief Warrant Officer with two other Soldiers! Love the statement that the 3rd SF Group CPT gave in the following article about the unit. Wonder if he was aware of Chief Warrant Officer Allen and his three Partners in Crime. https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-army/2019/08/05/three-former-green-berets-caught-in-cash-theft-scheme-in-afghanistan/ “Three Former Green Berets Caught In Cash Theft Scheme in Afghanistan” “Three former Army Green Berets were sentenced in July for their roles in a money theft scheme while deployed to Afghanistan.” “The soldiers embezzled a combined total of $90,000 between July 2009 and January 2010 from the Commander’s Emergency Response Program, a fund for military commanders to pay for reconstruction during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, according to a report delivered to Congress last week.” “The men bought $1,000 money orders with the stolen cash from Forward Operating Base Fenty in Jalalabad, Nangarhar province, and then sent the money back to their spouses, deposited it into USAA bank accounts and paid down credit card balances, according to court filings.” “Chief Warrant Officer Deric Harper, Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey Arthur Cook, and Sgt. 1st Class Barry Lee Walls will each serve three years on probation, must forfeit $40,000 and pay $40,000 in criminal restitution.” “A service official told Army Times on background that the three soldiers received an honorable retirement, an honorable discharge and a general discharge, but could not disclose which soldier had which due to privacy restrictions.” “All three soldiers were Green Berets and were out of the service by the end of 2016, the official added.” “Other unindicted co-conspirators were identified as J.C. and B.W in a June 2014 indictment.” “Harper, who was the officer-in-charge of the team, told J.C. and B.W in August 2012 that “if someone doesn’t talk, it stays white collar,” and that the federal agents would “have to go off paperwork,” according to the indictment.” “The soldiers were sentenced June 11 in the Eastern District of North Carolina. All three soldiers were previously assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group… Read more »

Not defending those soldiers, but I wish we would send our military overseas to kill people and break things instead of sending them to disburse cash for WPA programs run by the Taliban.

Inbred Redneck

Hmmm, wouldn’t that make too much sense for today’s military? Besides, it’d take too much time from Sensitivity Training classes.

Wait, wasn’t that Three Kings?

Those enhanced night vision goggles are $45,000.00 a pop

More than a HMMWV

Let’s see:

$45,000.00 x 43 = $1,935,000.00

Sounds about right. Like I posted earlier, it was probably Buck Private Snuffy, who did all the heavy humping and didn’t get his cut, that blew the whistle./smile

Come on Claw, it was just Quarterly Droppage. Or maybe a heavy drop that streamered in? To a swamp? And burned? Not that I ever saw that during my tenure as a BN S4.

Claw

Yeah, it always amazed me just how much stuff was packed into the Command Tracks and 5 Ton shop vans that were rail-headed out to the NTC from Fort Carson. They always seemed to have their locks cut, windows broken and vandalized while under the “security” of the Marines at Yermo while waiting to be off-loaded./smile

Andrew Rocks

45K my ass. The Surplus store in Fayettenam only gave me 30 bucks a pair.

Claw

Those ENVG’s came into the Army inventory about 15 years after I retired, but NSNs are available upon request./smile

O-4E

Our aviators were just starting to get them when I retired in 2015

I was shocked how expensive they are

War does tend to corrode ethics.

Long wars, even more so.

Long wars with no clear victory conditions, ambiguous public support, and allies as corrupt (and often as treacherous) as the enemy?

How did they hold things together this long?

PFM

The temptation is always there. Even as engineers we would pick up a cardboard box full of cash from Finance to pay the Iraqi contractors – assuming that there was no paper trail and no paper on to the replacement unit.

Contractor1803

Not the first, and definitely not the last. Here’s one from 2001. Clown had been previously been booted from group, but the Army retained him. He paid them back in spades. https://www.courtlistener.com/opinion/800467/united-states-v-carruthers/

Another wannabe millionaire who made himself a hero, I mean zero. What’s he doing now, washing dishes and mopping floors at Bubba’s Bar & Grill?

Went the contracting route. Lasted just long enough to find out he had a felony conviction. Fired from a string of jobs for drugs, illegal weps, workplace violence.
